Chapter 304
Chapter 304
Zhang Bei didn’t believe a pretty, fair-skinned little boy could remain unharmed in a place like this.
The bishop noticed the change in his gaze. “Someone get them out of here!”
As people came toward him, Zhang Bei gave his arm a flick.
“Stand back. Call the police!”
The old monk immediately retreated two steps.
He’d never seen Boss Zhang fight, but surely someone who dared come here wouldn’t go down in a single blow?
Surely…
The monk froze where he stood, phone in hand.
Was this creature really a business owner?
What business owner could fight like that?
“Hello? Sir, are you still there?”
Only then did the monk remember he was calling the police.
“Yes, yes! We’re at the church. Please hurry!”
After hanging up, he stood in silence for a moment, then simply sat down to watch the martial arts movie unfolding before him.
What else could he do? He was merely a feeble monk who couldn’t hurt a chicken.
In these confined quarters, Zhang Bei’s fighting prowess came into its own.
A dozen or more people closing in looked intimidating, but in practice, only three could get at him at once.
Boss Zhang against three people?
At a time like this, the question wasn’t whether he was safe. It was how long those three could last.
From the raised platform, the bishop watched his most devout followers fly backward one after another. His expression darkened.
“Stop standing around! All of you, get in there!”
More than thirty burly men charged through a wooden door to one side.
Each had muscles broad enough to race horses on.
Unfortunately for them, muscles were only an aid.
What mattered more was fighting ability honed in actual combat.
And as the greatest villain in this entire book, Boss Zhang had reached the very limits of human combat ability.
These few lightweights couldn’t even touch the hem of his clothes.
Still, when the burly men with baseball bats joined the fray, Zhang Bei began to feel a little pressure.
Mainly because the bastards could take a beating. Unless he hit hard, they acted as if nothing had happened.
Time flew, and two patrol officers rushed inside.
Their scalps prickled at the melee before them.
“What did dispatch say?”
“A group brawl. Told us to get it under control.”
“They call this a group brawl?”
Zhang Bei stood alone within a ring of attackers, his telescopic baton flashing up and down.
Far from getting hurt, he was sending the people around him flying one after another.
“Stop! Whatever your dispute is, you can explain it at the station!”
Through a gap left by one airborne attacker, Zhang Bei glanced outside the circle.
Oh, the police had arrived quickly!
The brainwashed crowd, however, had no intention of stopping.
Nobody listened. They kept charging Zhang Bei with utter disregard for their lives.
The two officers stared at him in the middle of the encirclement for a long time.
“Should we try to break it up?”
“Think you can?”
“Forget it. Call for backup.”
Neither had the slightest intention of joining in.
Never mind stopping the crowd. They’d probably get sent flying before they even made it inside.
The command center had a comprehensive escalation protocol.
If two officers couldn’t handle it, the threat level naturally had to go up.
Soon, a helicopter sped into position above the church.
Several fully armed soldiers rappelled to the ground.
“Officer J894, report the situation!”
“The fighting is ongoing. Twenty-seven down, fifteen still attacking.”
“Evacuate the bystanders. Leave this to us.”
“Yes, sir!”
The two officers directed the ordinary churchgoers away from the fighting.
The vast church suddenly felt much emptier.
By now, Zhang Bei was in a fighting frenzy, but years of combat instinct still kept the force of his blows in check.
Most of his opponents were simply unable to continue. Their injuries didn’t even qualify as minor.
The three tactical officers surveyed the scene and felt a headache coming on.
“Stow your guns. Separate them, fast!”
“Yes, sir!”
Whatever else might be said, these three were stronger than ordinary people. Like tigers among sheep, they swiftly pulled the combatants apart.
Fighting – and a mass brawl at that. Whatever the circumstances, detention was the minimum anyone could expect.
Zhang Bei looked at the three tough men before him, excitement growing in his eyes.
“Come on. Fight!”
The three tactical officers: ???
Was something seriously wrong with him?
He was the one being mobbed. They’d come to help. Had he gone so battle-crazy that he wanted to fight them too?
Zhang Bei put away his baton. “We can talk after we fight!”
He’d finally found some entertainment, and they’d ruined it.
These three could make up for the fight he’d been denied.
As Zhang Bei launched his attack, the officers exchanged a glance and moved to subdue him as quickly as possible.
Who could have imagined that even together, all three would barely be able to hold on?
The longer Zhang Bei fought, the more excited he became. Without realizing it, he released a little more of the strength he usually kept suppressed.
Under his storm of blows, the three men’s world collapsed.
What had all those years of training been for?
Three of them. Three battle-hardened veterans, and this one man was beating them so badly they couldn’t even strike back.
Finally, a flying kick from Zhang Bei broke their defense.
Three bodies went flying in its wake.
Zhang Bei rubbed his slightly aching shoulders, feeling wonderfully loosened up.
That felt good!
It had been ages since he’d enjoyed such a satisfying fight.
The two young patrol officers swallowed.
“Um… assaulting a police officer is a serious crime!”
Zhang Bei nodded. “I know!”
“How about coming down to the station for a cup of tea?”
The young officer glanced at the radio on their belt, considering whether to call for more backup.
Zhang Bei stretched, looked at the bishop and the boy hiding at the back, and handed over a small red booklet.
“These people have been brainwashed. Investigate them thoroughly. And take that boy for an examination for injuries. I suspect child abuse.”
Puzzled, the officer accepted the booklet.
The instant they saw the red official seal inside, they snapped to attention.
“Yes, Commander! We’ll carry out your orders!”
Zhang Bei stretched again. “Any other churches in Dingyang City?”
The two young officers: ???
What was this formidable man planning?
Was he going to clear out every church in the city?
The three tactical officers, who had just gotten to their feet: ???
Wait. From the sound of it, he was some high-ranking official?
So they’d taken that beating for nothing?
Seeing that Zhang Bei clearly hadn’t had enough fighting, the young officer hurriedly shook their head.
“No. This is the only church!”
Zhang Bei smacked his lips. “Take them away. Remember to check on that boy properly.”
“Yes, sir!”
As the officer left, Zhang Bei turned his attention to the old monk.
“Venerable monk, do you know of any temples that misbehave?”
The monk nearly jumped out of his skin.
What was that supposed to mean?
Was he planning to wipe out every faith in Dingyang City in one sweep?
“No! Everyone at our temples is a law-abiding citizen. Absolutely no misconduct!”
Zhang Bei sighed. Finding his next place to fight wasn’t going to be so easy after all.
