Chapter 289
Chapter 289
Chuunibyou nodded and shouted at the sky.
“Somersault Cloud!”
A white cloud came racing from the horizon and braked sharply in front of him.
“I’m off, baldy!”
“Hurry back!”
After watching him leave, their lucky star leaned back in his chair to rest.
That was the trouble with pregnancy. The slightest movement left him tired all over.
Meanwhile, in the palace’s inner quarters, Qingqing nearly laughed aloud at the report she was hearing.
“You’re sure the monkey has really left?”
“Yes. He must have gone to Jieyang Mountain for the water to end the pregnancy.”
Qingqing stretched and set down the memorials. “Then proceed as planned. Start with the pig.”
“As you command!”
As the soldier left, Qingqing looked behind her.
“Little Su, you really can’t beat that monkey?”
A nine-tailed fox slowly materialized in the air. “I can’t beat him, but I can escape.”
The surname Su. Nine tails. A fox. Her identity was perfectly clear.
It was the historically infamous Su Daji.
Qingqing narrowed her eyes, sneakily drew one tail closer, and began stroking it.
It felt so good!
Su Daji noticed, but paid little attention.
“Don’t forget the Empress’s words. That monk must stay here forever.”
“You can count on me!”
Even as she spoke, Qingqing was no longer satisfied with one tail. She gathered several into her arms and rubbed her face against them.
This was Su Daji! Petting her brought a special sense of achievement.
In contrast to the merriment here, Kong Hanchi was on the verge of a breakdown.
Two minutes earlier, a pretty young woman had invited him to discuss life.
As the only normal member of the four, he had followed her without a second thought.
Who could have foreseen the disaster that followed?
The lovely, kindhearted young woman was a demon!
Kong Hanchi nearly burst into tears as more than a dozen figures with cat ears approached him carrying ropes.
He was only a pig! If they wanted to catch someone, they should catch that bald monk!
Why him?
Of course, he wasn’t going to sit and wait for death. The Nine-Toothed Rake quietly appeared in his hands.
As the old pig’s signature weapon, it was naturally powerful.
One gentle swing gouged an enormous pit in the ground.
Unfortunately, two fists couldn’t beat four hands. After a fierce struggle, Kong Hanchi inevitably found himself at a disadvantage.
One cat demon flicked a rope, sending it whipping toward him.
At the same time, several sets of claws lunged for his throat.
Fighting ability varied from person to person. Chuunibyou would have emerged unscathed from a situation like this.
Kong Hanchi couldn’t. He lacked that talent.
With attacks coming from every direction, all he could do was hold the Nine-Toothed Rake across his chest.
Clang, clang, clang!
Claws struck the rake, showering sparks.
But blocking the claws didn’t stop the rope.
Within seconds, the enchanted cord had bound Kong Hanchi from snout to trotters.
“What did Her Majesty say?”
“Slaughter him. He’s no use alive.”
“Right!”
Kong Hanchi’s eyes widened at the knife in the cat demon’s hand.
“Hey, hey! You’re not serious, are you?”
“Help! They’re slaughtering a pig!”
“Somebody save me!”
His screams rang through the hall. Afraid of complications, the cat demon drove the knife into him.
Well, the knife was real, and it did go in.
But it was rather short. Not very thick, either.
Nothing compared with the monkey’s weapon.
Three full stabs drew only a little blood. The pig remained as lively as ever.
Just then, a gust of wind swept through. Several cat demons’ faces instantly turned blue-purple.
Zhu Bajie seized the opportunity to break free of the ropes and retrieve his Nine-Toothed Rake.
A girl appeared out of thin air and stared at the pig in front of her.
“Who are you, then?”
You Bai scratched her head. “The one who stung your Buddha’s finger.”
Kong Hanchi paused. “The Scorpion Demon?”
“Yes. Come with me.”
She headed outside. “It’s complicated. We can’t stay in the palace now.”
“What about the bald monk?”
“He won’t die just yet.”
People like Qingqing were trying to complete their missions. You Bai was the one who knew the truth.
She sneaked the pig out of the palace and stopped at a cave.
Kong Hanchi shivered at the white bones inside.
“What’s going on?”
You Bai gathered her thoughts and began explaining.
“Strictly speaking, there’s something wrong with this world. It isn’t the Journey to the West you know.”
“What?”
“Do you know how I came down to the mortal realm?”
“Didn’t you flee after stinging the Buddha’s finger?”
“I did flee. But heavenly soldiers and generals chased me down here.”
That simple statement shocked Kong Hanchi.
“Tianting and Spirit Mountain are at war?”
“I don’t know. As soon as I appeared, I found a group from Tianting killing people on Spirit Mountain. All I could do was escape and find you.”
Silence fell as Kong Hanchi absorbed the enormous amount of information.
You Bai looked up at the sky, filled with frustration.
Why was her mission so different?
What sort of demon had to uncover the truth behind the siege of Spirit Mountain?
Meanwhile, in the palace, their lucky star studied the tightly closed doors with a grave expression.
“Wujing, do you remember what happened when they went for the pregnancy-ending water in Journey to the West?”
The English teacher thought carefully. “Some Ruyi Immortal fought the monkey, I think?”
Their lucky star rubbed his bald head. “If Chuunibyou doesn’t return tonight, and that stupid pig is dead, can you protect me?”
The English teacher hesitated, then shook her head.
“Impossible. I only have two abilities in total, and one is passive.”
He rubbed his growing belly. “It’s almost dark. We have to slip out under cover of night.”
“We’re really leaving?”
“We have to!”
He was certain that staying here meant death.
Only the sovereign could have made that pig disappear without a trace in this place.
The two huddled together and drew up a simple plan. Then he settled down to look after his pregnancy.
As daylight faded, Qingqing stood in the palace, an icy glint in her eyes as she surveyed the bodies laid out across the floor.
“You’re sure that little scorpion did this?”
“Yes. Only her poison is that potent.”
Su Daji pulled her tail out of Qingqing’s arms.
“What will you do?”
“No hurry. Keep an eye on the bald monk. They’ll come to us.”
“That bald monk is about to run away.”
A smile appeared on Qingqing’s face. “It won’t be that easy!”
She pushed the doors open.
“Have the monk meet me in the side hall.”
“As you command!”
