Chapter 163
Chapter 163
“Ah!”
After shining a penlight down his throat and examining it carefully, the doctor nodded.
“It’s a little inflamed. The boss should have some cold medicine.”
Li Yang nodded. “Then I’ll go find him!”
“The cold medicine is in the first drawer in the emergency room.”
The voice that suddenly came from behind him made Li Yang jump.
“Boss, do you always walk without making a sound?”
“Cut the chatter. The medicine is wrapped in white paper. Take two pills!”
Li Yang rubbed his swollen throat and hurried into the emergency room.
The spacious room was piled high with Suxiao Jiuxin Wan.
Li Yang pulled open the drawer and found medicine wrapped in several different colors of paper.
What had the boss said again?
Which color was it?
Blue?
Another fit of coughing made Li Yang give up on thinking. Trusting his instincts, he opened a blue paper packet, grabbed two pills at random, and shut the drawer.
Time passed without anyone noticing. By the time Zhou Hui woke up in the Morgue, it was already lunchtime.
He turned his head and found Meng Xuan staring blankly at a nearby chef.
Unforgettable memories instantly came flooding back.
Zhou Hui doubted he would ever forget the experience of bungee jumping from such a terrifying height.
“You’re awake?”
“Brother Meng!”
His voice rang with barely suppressed anger.
“I’m sorry. I took it too far. How about I buy you lunch?”
The sincere apology convinced Zhou Hui to temporarily set aside his grievances over the Hot Air Balloon experience.
“What are we eating?”
“I heard them mention some kind of hot pot. You up for it?”
“Sure. And I want the most expensive one!”
Still lying on the wooden cot, Zhou Hui sighed as he felt how weak his legs were.
He had driven for three hours to get here, yet they had only tried two attractions all morning.
He had either been lying in the Morgue or been on his way to the Morgue.
As his thoughts wandered, Meng Xuan returned carrying an insulated box and a folding table.
After setting up the table, he looked at Zhou Hui.
“Can you sit up?”
Zhou Hui struggled to prop himself up. “Food in a scenic attraction like this must be expensive, right?”
“It’s not too bad. A little over a hundred yuan, ingredients included.”
“That’s pretty reasonable!”
As he spoke, Meng Xuan opened the insulated box with one hand.
Inside was a human head with its brain exposed.
Zhou Hui frowned at Meng Xuan, who had gone completely rigid.
“What’s wrong?”
Meng Xuan remained silent for a long moment. “Have you ever eaten a person?”
“Huh?”
Meng Xuan turned the insulated box around, revealing its contents to Zhou Hui.
The atmosphere instantly became eerie.
Zhou Hui felt his already weak legs grow even weaker. “This is food?”
Meng Xuan swept his gaze around them.
There were quite a few regular visitors in the amusement park at lunchtime. Most were cradling heads in their arms and using spoons to scoop out mouthful after mouthful of brain.
Given their line of work, neither of them was afraid of ghosts or monsters.
And with so many people eating it, that was proof enough that it really was food.
Although Zhou Hui had spent most of the morning unconscious, the physical toll had still left his stomach growling.
Staring at the brain in front of him, he finally steeled himself and shoved a spoonful into his mouth.
The tofu had soaked up plenty of broth, and a burst of tender, savory, spicy flavor instantly spread across his tongue.
“Mmm, that’s good!”
Seeing that his buddy had already started eating, Meng Xuan tossed aside his remaining reservations, picked up a spoon, and dug into his own lunch.
Meanwhile, in the Staff Cafeteria, a deathly pale Li Yang was struggling to keep a certain part of his body under control.
The doctor watched him with intense curiosity. “Is the medicine really that effective?”
He had been watching Li Yang for two full minutes, but Li Yang showed no sign of coughing whatsoever.
Li Yang shuddered. “This isn’t about whether the medicine works.”
Zhang Bei took a tray from Chef Li. “What’s wrong?”
Cold sweat had broken out across Li Yang’s forehead. “I think I took the wrong medicine.”
“Huh?”
“Boss, the medicine in the blue packet is a laxative, right?”
Zhang Bei’s hand paused midway through wiping his chopsticks.
“How many pills did you take?”
“Two.”
Zhang Bei was silent for a moment. “The effect is basically the same. At least you’re not coughing anymore.”
Li Yang stared wide-eyed at his unscrupulous boss.
The same effect?
How was this remotely the same?
He didn’t dare cough now!
The doctor looked at his boss and fell silent as well.
Well… maybe, judging solely by the result, there really wasn’t much difference?
Like hell there wasn’t!
“Does your stomach hurt?”
The doctor had already pulled out his stethoscope and stepped in front of Li Yang.
“No. I just have to keep it under control.”
Zhang Bei set a piece of ginger aside.
“You’ll be fine. The medicine only lasts three hours. It’ll wear off this afternoon.”
The doctor looked at Li Yang with sympathy.
“Hang in there!”
Professor Yao sat off to the side, his face wreathed in smiles.
He liked this place more and more. Everyone here was so entertaining. They said such amusing things, and every now and then, someone even knelt before him.
“Come here. I’ll give you a couple of needles!”
Li Yang, wholly focused on maintaining control, nearly burst into tears when someone finally offered to help. He shuffled awkwardly over to Professor Yao.
“Sit up straight!”
Li Yang looked ready to cry. “If I sit up straight, it’ll come out!”
Professor Yao nearly burst out laughing as he took out the small case that held his needles.
In barely ten seconds, Li Yang’s abdomen was covered in silver needles.
Acupuncture these days was nothing like what people saw on television.
In the past, doctors only had a single set of silver needles in assorted sizes. If they wanted to target a few extra acupoints, they had no choice but to use every needle in the set.
Nowadays, however, one-inch disposable needles were available, all made to the same specifications.
They even eliminated the hassle of sterilization.
The silver needles were left in place across Li Yang’s abdomen for several minutes before Professor Yao removed them one by one.
“Drink some ginger tea. You’ll feel better soon.”
When Li Yang felt that a certain part of his body was no longer clenched quite so tightly, he finally relaxed a little.
Then he looked at Zhang Bei with the same kind of gaze as the doctor.
“Boss, why did you put the cold medicine and laxatives together?!”
Zhang Bei wiped his mouth. “I didn’t expect anyone to be unable to tell blue from white.”
A critical hit!
Li Yang heaved a long sigh, sat down, and continued struggling to maintain control.
Then Li Lei’s voice came from behind him, making every hair on his body stand on end.
“Why aren’t you eating? What are you sitting here staring at?”
As she spoke, a palm slapped down on Li Yang’s shoulder.
Zhang Bei silently picked up his tray and moved farther away.
Li Yang’s face twisted. Mustering what little strength he could spare, he bolted outside.
Li Lei stared after him in confusion. “What’s wrong with him?”
“Maybe he wanted to eat somewhere else.”
Li Lei scratched her head, failing to understand Zhang Bei’s twisted joke.
Li Yang never reappeared for the rest of lunch.
It wasn’t until work resumed that afternoon that he dragged his weakened body back and collapsed into the chair at the ticket booth.
The Amusement Park soon opened for the afternoon, and a rather mismatched-looking couple walked in from outside.
