Chapter 119

“No need. The time I have left is enough for me to watch Dingyang City grow.”

Director Qi gripped the medical report in his hand. “Please prescribe me two more boxes of painkillers!”

The doctor sighed. “All right.”

After leaving the hospital, Director Qi tore the report to shreds and tossed it into a trash can.

With one hand, he picked up his phone and dialed a number. “Help me find out who owns the land near the Suburban Amusement Park.”

“Yes, Director!”

Before long, Zhang Bei, who was sitting in the restaurant, received a call from Director Qi.

“I found out what was going on. It’s the Trust Foundation. I’ll send you the number they left behind!”

Zhang Bei sighed. “Then I’ll contact them.”

Soon, a phone number was sent to him on WeChat.

Zhang Bei dialed it directly, and a steady male voice came through the line.

“Hello. Is this Mr. Zhang Bei?”

Hearing that, Zhang Bei frowned. “Yes, this is Zhang Bei. I wanted to ask, is the land for the amusement park in your hands?”

The voice on the phone remained calm. “No. For the time being, the land does not belong to anyone. Everything is to be decided by Mr. Zhang.”

Zhang Bei was taken aback. “What do you mean?”

“We ask that Mr. Zhang come to our office tonight. When the time comes, all the answers will be revealed.”

Zhang Bei was silent for a moment. “Address.”

“It has already been sent to your phone. We’ll be waiting for you here.”

Looking at the text notification, Zhang Bei silently sped up his eating.

Soon, after swallowing the last mouthful of food, Zhang Bei stood up.

“Li Yang, remember to close up. I’m heading out first!”

“Got it, boss!”

As soon as the words fell, Zhang Bei had already walked out of the restaurant.

After driving for more than half an hour, a building appeared before him.

At the entrance stood a man in a suit.

“Are you Mr. Zhang?”

Zhang Bei nodded. “That’s me.”

“Please follow me.”

Zhang Bei followed behind the man, one hand squeezing his bank card.

He had no idea how much of his balance would still be left after today.

Soon, the two entered a conference room, and the man took out a sealed letter.

“Mr. Zhang, this is the will your father left for you.”

Zhang Bei froze on the spot. Only after more than ten seconds did he pick up the letter on the table.

He carefully opened the envelope, and a sheet of paper appeared before his eyes.

[Heh heh heh, didn’t see this coming, did you? Your old man was prepared all along!]

Seeing that familiar opening, Zhang Bei was certain this was something his father had left behind.

Who else would talk to his own son in that heh-heh-heh tone?

[Please forgive me. I can no longer write, so I’ve left the rest of what I want to say to you in a video.]

Zhang Bei silently put the letter away. “Where’s the video?”

The man turned on the projector, but did not start playing it.

“Mr. Zhang, there is something I must explain to you first. This plot of land has been kept in our custody, and so far, it has incurred eighty thousand yuan in handling fees.”

“I understand. I’ll pay the money.”

Soon, the video began to play. On the screen, an old man lying in a hospital bed looked into the camera with a smile.

“Xiao Bei, by the time you see this video, the Amusement Park’s expansion should have already begun. Didn’t expect this, did you? Your old man bought the land long ago!”

Zhang Bei stared deeply at the video. “If I had never come, what would have happened to the land?”

The man glanced at the records in his hand.

“Our custody fee has a maximum cap of three hundred thousand yuan, and we will hold it for fifty years. If you never came, we would invest the land ourselves and hand it over to your next generation.”
At the man’s words, Zhang Bei turned his attention back to the video.

Only his dear old dad could have pulled something like this.

The voice in the video continued, “Run the amusement park well. I believe that in your hands, this amusement park will far surpass anything I achieved!

“And one more thing. If this amusement park is gone, I’ll skin you alive!”

The video ended there. Zhang Bei did a quick calculation; it had probably been recorded not long after his father was admitted to the hospital.

By the time he left the trust agency, it was already late at night. Zhang Bei looked at the documents in his hand and sighed.

That old fox really knew how to scheme!

He drove home, then put the letter and the video away in a drawer.

Silently, he lit incense for his parents. He stood before their memorial portraits for a long time before finally going to sleep.

Before he knew it, the whole night had passed. The weather was clear, and the Amusement Park opened for business as usual.

As soon as he pushed open the gates of the Amusement Park, the first thing he saw was a child standing at the front of the line.

This kid looked familiar!

The child from Pebble Jump Rope. One of a kind, no other branches.

Zhang Bei did not pay too much attention to it. After all, the kid could be considered a regular customer by now.

Little Cao walked into the Amusement Park and headed straight for the Human Cannon.

A blank sheet of paper hung silently from his chest.

[Renting myself out. Ten yuan per ride!]

None of the surrounding visitors had expected someone to come up with a move like this.

The doctor stared at Little Cao with his medicine kit on his back. “Why are you here by yourself?”

Little Cao glanced at the doctor. “Making money. Buying a gift.”

“Huh?”

Little Cao had no choice but to explain.

“It’s my dad’s birthday. I need to save up to buy him a present!”

The doctor nodded. “And this is how you’re saving money?”

Little Cao silently took out a Pass Card. “I’ve played this attraction at least a hundred times. It’s fine.”

The doctor gave Little Cao a serious look. “Then… good luck?”

Little Cao nodded hard. “I will!”

Soon, a visitor handed Little Cao ten yuan, and business began in the blink of an eye.

Cao Jia’s birthday was indeed coming up. Last time, because Little Cao had been attending tutoring classes, his mother had wiped out his entire secret stash in one sweep.

If he wanted to buy Cao Jia a birthday gift, this was the only way.

When it came to the Human Cannon, Little Cao could be called an expert.

Don’t ask. Skilled workers could do whatever they wanted.

“Excuse me, does this attraction require a child in order to ride?”

The clumsy Chinese caught Little Cao’s attention.

The speaker was a blond-haired, blue-eyed foreigner, and his eyes were fixed on him.

Wendell, a man from the United States who was passionate about traveling.

After seeing videos of this Amusement Park reposted overseas, he had rushed over at once.

“Yes!”

(Note: The following conversation was entirely in English!)

“Oh, you speak English?”

“Yes. I’m renting myself out. For just ten yuan, you can experience it once!”

“My God, this is amazing!”

“So do you want to ride?”

“Of course!”

A banknote was handed to Little Cao. Wendell hurriedly brought Little Cao over to the Human Cannon.

Little Cao was very smart, and his grades had always been good.

During this period, the tutoring classes funded by the Cao family’s secret stash had caused Little Cao’s spoken English to improve by leaps and bounds.

Although he still did not know words that were too complicated, daily conversation was absolutely no problem!

Soon, Wendell lay down inside the Human Cannon while holding Little Cao.

“What did the staff member just say?”

Little Cao dutifully served as his translator. “He said if you think it’s too fast, pull the ring.”
