Chapter 155
Chapter 155
“Are you sure we should do this?”
“It’ll be fine. The boss said we had to let our foreign visitors experience our hospitality!”
After a brief discussion, the two of them quickly decided Wendell’s fate.
The Hot Air Balloon made its way back to the amusement park. The doctor came over pushing a cart, only to fall silent the moment he saw what awaited him.
I should… probably… maybe be in the right place?
Out of everyone aboard the Hot Air Balloon, only two young men were still capable of moving.
The entire group of foreigners lay sprawled across the seats, their huge, dried-up boogers faintly visible.
After staring blankly for several seconds, the doctor snatched up his medical kit and charged aboard the Hot Air Balloon.
Shit! Don’t tell me they’re dead!
The last thing I need is an international incident!
Only after examining them and feeding them an entire box of Suxiao Jiuxin Wan did he finally breathe a sigh of relief.
His resentful gaze shifted toward the boss sitting on a bench.
Yep. This was the fifth time today he’d wanted to stab his own boss!
Meanwhile, Zhang Bei, completely oblivious to that murderous stare, was browsing information in the System Mall.
Although the island was intended for experiments, leaving all that space on the surface unused still seemed like a terrible waste.
After browsing for a long while, Zhang Bei’s attention settled on two technologies.
[Biological Gene Tracing Technology!]
[Animal Gene Cloning!]
The demonstration videos provided by the System were more than enough to tempt him.
One extinct species after another reappeared on the surface.
Unlike modern embryo-cloning technology, which produced clones whose lifespans could not even compare to those of their donor animals, the System’s gene-cloning technology was far more advanced and would not result in any genetic defects whatsoever!
In the past, Zhang Bei would never have dared to reveal technology like this.
But now that the Laboratory was located on the island, he no longer had to worry about bringing out certain dangerous things.
His gaze shifted to the prices. The moment he saw that long string of zeros, Zhang Bei fell silent.
Even with the amusement park’s current Popularity Value, it would take him at least two months to afford both technologies.
After quietly bookmarking them, Zhang Bei let out a long sigh.
The tourists were still providing far too little Emotional Value!
“Add another ten minutes to the Bumper Car!”
“Yes, boss!”
An employee swiftly pressed the button to extend the ride. The Bumper Car, which had almost reached the end, promptly headed back into the tunnel.
Looking at his boss’s perfectly calm face, the employee shrank back.
Definitely not someone I can afford to offend!
“Boss, isn’t this just an Amusement Park? What’s there to film?”
“Cut the crap. This assignment came straight from the top, and this segment is extremely important!”
The two speakers were a reporter and cameraman dispatched by the provincial television station.
They had come to shoot a promotional segment about the amusement park.
“Hello, do you have time to answer a few questions?”
The reporter stopped a young man and gestured toward the camera beside him.
“Sure. What would you like to ask?”
The reporter nodded at the camera and began the interview.
“Is this your first time visiting this Amusement Park?”
“No, I’ve already been here several times!”
“What is it about this Amusement Park that keeps drawing you back?”
The young man thought for a moment. “I feel like I can experience the joy of releasing all my stress here. It also lets me discover the true meaning of life.”
The reporter’s eyes filled with confusion.
What the hell?
The true meaning of life?
How did this suddenly become a philosophical discussion?
“Then which attraction in this Amusement Park is your favorite?”
A subtle smile flashed across the young man’s face.
“The Underground Maze, of course. The sense of accomplishment you get from solving all its puzzles is incredible!”
“Thank you for speaking with us. Now, let’s continue exploring this Amusement Park!”
After spending a full hour touring the entire amusement park, the reporter was utterly baffled.
Every single visitor had told the same story. All of them had nothing but praise for the place.
And to make matters worse, the reporter could see countless unconscious visitors being wheeled away on one gurney after another.
The three white-coated staff members were completely run off their feet.
After a long silence, the reporter had the sudden urge to smash his microphone.
“We’ll shoot one more segment on the Drop Tower, then leave. Hopefully the editors can salvage this somehow.”
The cameraman nodded and secured the camera in front of the Drop Tower.
With a sigh, the reporter bought a ticket, joined the line, and eventually took his seat.
He was beginning to suspect that these visitors weren’t quite right in the head.
They had been so terrified they couldn’t even stand, yet they wouldn’t stop singing the place’s praises.
A few had taken Suxiao Jiuxin Wan only minutes ago, yet they still kept insisting it wasn’t scary.
While his thoughts wandered, the Drop Tower began to move.
At thirty meters, with the wind whipping past him, the reporter gave a bored yawn.
“This isn’t scary at all!”
At sixty meters, the tension finally got to him, and he tucked in his neck.
“Okay, this is a little scary.”
At ninety meters, vertigo struck, and he had no idea where to put his hands.
“Holy shit, this is really high!”
When the Human Yo-Yo sequence began, the reporter finally squeezed his eyes shut.
Fifteen minutes later, he groggily came to in the Morgue.
At that moment, he finally understood the smiles on those visitors’ faces.
“D-Did you get all that?”
The cameraman nodded, the camera resting on his shoulder.
“Are we filming anything else?”
The reporter’s expression darkened. “Sure. You get on, and I’ll film.”
“No! That’s okay!”
Feeling how weak his legs were, the reporter closed his eyes again.
But only a few seconds later, they snapped back open.
Goddammit. The instant he closed his eyes, those visitors’ misleading claims started echoing through his head.
This thing really didn’t look like much from the ground.
But once you were on it, there was no fucking way anyone could handle it!
“When we get back, cut the last part of the Drop Tower footage. Get the video uploaded tonight!”
“That soon?”
The reporter gritted his teeth. “Tell those brats in editing that if it isn’t up tonight, I’ll personally send them onto the Drop Tower!”
The cameraman backed away two steps. “Got it!”
The morning slipped by, filled with more twists and turns than anyone could have expected.
Wendell, dressed in clothes that had been torn to shreds, was marched against his will toward a roast duck restaurant.
Meanwhile, a minibus was making its way toward Amusement Park.
“Captain, what was it like when you tried it last time?”
“Come on, Captain! Tell us!”
Nangong Zhi leaned his muscular frame against the seat and let out a long sigh.
“Don’t ask. You’ll find out once you’ve tried it yourselves.”
They had only wrapped up a major case a few days ago, and the deadline set by the official directive was fast approaching.
The Narcotics Unit had no choice but to hold its team-building outing at Amusement Park.
Nangong Zhi closed his eyes. Just thinking about having to come here every month from now on was enough to give him a headache.
There was nothing wrong with having fun, or even spending the day at an amusement park.
But why couldn’t he have picked a more normal amusement park?
Looking at the excited team members beside him, Nangong Zhi silently turned his head away.
Hopefully, they would still be smiling once they arrived.
By afternoon, the minibus pulled up at the main entrance.
Nangong Zhi was the first to stride into Amusement Park.
“Pick whatever you want to try, but everyone has to do at least three attractions.”
“Don’t worry. Forget three-what’s the big deal about trying every single one?”
Nangong Zhi gave the man who had spoken a long, serious look.
“Su Ban, want to make a bet?”
“Bet on what?”
“If you make it through six attractions, I’ll let you be Captain for a day. If you don’t, you’ll do a ten-kilometer cross-country run with a weighted pack when we get back.”
