Chapter 238
Chapter 238
No. 10 had been the Mole all along. He wanted to slaughter his way across the battlefield just like everyone else.
Unfortunately, his skill was rather unusual.
Devour, a skill that could only be used once.
By using Devour on any corpse, regardless of what it was, he could obtain the power it had possessed in life.
No. 10 had originally planned to use the Invisibility Cloak to sneak over and use Devour on the Spirit Swordsman’s corpse.
However, No. 11’s outrageous luck had forced him to abandon that idea.
As long as No. 11 still had summons left, No. 10 would inevitably be beaten to a pulp no matter what he transformed into.
But now, No. 10 could finally bare his fangs!
Devour activated. The Giant Spider slowly disappeared, and as No. 10 felt power surging through his body, the smile on his face grew increasingly unrestrained.
He had held back for so long and watched them show off for so long.
At last, it was his turn!
Once the Giant Spider’s corpse had been fully absorbed, No. 10’s form began to change.
His body became identical to the Giant Spider’s, though his head remained human.
The Invisibility Cloak had long since been ripped apart, and his enormous form blotted out the sky.
No. 11’s scalp tingled. Looking at No. 10’s face atop the monstrous body, No. 11 could only give a bitter laugh.
“So it was you!”
“Hahaha! It’s finally my turn!”
The moment the words left his mouth, a stream of spider silk shot toward the remaining players.
The silk was lethally toxic, corroding their bodies in the blink of an eye.
No. 10 spared only No. 11.
“Surrender. You have no chance of fighting back!”
No. 11 glanced across the devastated campus and let out a long sigh.
“Can you at least make it quick?”
“Of course…”
Before No. 10 could finish, a crimson longsword plunged into the spider’s body.
The voice of No. 39, the English teacher, came from behind him.
“Sorry, I’m the spy!”
Divine Class: Assassin. Skill: Teleportation. Special Effect: A fully charged attack from behind is instantly fatal!
The battle ended beneath No. 10’s resentful gaze.
The word VICTORY flashed across the display. When the two survivors opened their eyes, they finally breathed sighs of relief.
No. 11 unbuckled the safety harness and stretched, never expecting the contingency plan set up almost by accident to actually come into play.
That had been close. No. 10 had come within a hair of turning the entire game around!
Zhang Bei leaned back in his recliner and stared at the surveillance feed on his tablet in silence for a long while.
That Werewolf game had been a truly top-tier match.
A single mistake from either side would have made such an ending impossible.
An instance designed to last an hour had somehow been completed in only thirty minutes.
After thinking for a moment, Zhang Bei called his secretary.
Far away in Yanjing, Meng Chuan was out sightseeing with his girlfriend. His heart sank the moment he saw the caller ID.
He took a deep breath and answered the call.
“I’ll send you a video in a moment. Upload it to the website we set up.”
Meng Chuan paused. “Anything else?”
Zhang Bei froze as well. Had this man become addicted to work?
“Should I give you a few more assignments?”
“No need, Boss. Just send me the video. I’m hanging up!”
Zhang Bei stared at the disconnected call and silently added two more assignments to Meng Chuan’s workload.
There would inevitably be meetings of every size before the civilian Nuclear Fusion power plant was established.
Zhang Bei had not originally planned to involve himself in those matters, but he could not allow Meng Chuan’s unhealthy habit of complaining about having too little work to continue.
He quietly added all sorts of meetings to the plan for the next phase.
After sending the video to Meng Chuan, Zhang Bei looked up and spotted a familiar face.
Chi Fu was leading a group of people into the Amusement Park.
Spotting Zhang Bei lounging around, Chi Fu waved to the people beside him.
The group immediately scattered, each heading off to choose an attraction.
Chi Fu dropped into the seat beside Zhang Bei.
“Where are the two little ones?”
Chi Fu sighed. “I hired a nanny to look after them. Once I get through this busy stretch, I’ll be able to take care of them properly again.”
Zhang Bei rubbed his chin. “If that doesn’t work out, give them to me. I’ve got plenty of free time.”
Chi Fu rolled his eyes. “No!”
The two little ones were sweet and well-behaved. No matter how busy he got, he would never give them away.
Zhang Bei let out a long sigh. His plan to acquire a pair of daughters had failed. Who knew when he would get another chance to put the two little ones in the Human Cannon?
The two men looked like a pair of retirees, each reclining in a lounge chair with a cup of tea as they chatted.
Meanwhile, a slender figure entered the Amusement Park.
Ping Xinyu, an anesthesiologist at Dingyang City Emergency Center.
Though only twenty-five, she had already been earmarked as the next head of the emergency department.
For the first half of her life, she had been the sort of child every parent compared their own children to. Straight out of high school, she was admitted to medical school on a full scholarship.
She earned her master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, and upon returning home, she immediately took on the role of emergency department anesthesiologist.
Naturally, her visit to the amusement park today was no coincidence.
Only after most of the hospital’s doctors had experienced the amusement park did the psychologist sitting in his office remember that their hospital still had an anesthesiologist.
And so, Ping Xinyu, who usually had so little to do that she was bored stiff, was officially given an assignment.
Since she had nothing better to do anyway, she came on her day off to the place that made countless doctors pale at the mere mention of it.
Gazing across the enormous Amusement Park, Ping Xinyu searched her surroundings.
Although this was her first visit, she had heard that a giant of the medical field was hidden here.
He had developed an original medicine-administration technique capable of delivering medication directly into a patient’s stomach even when the patient was unconscious.
Before long, she spotted the doctor in his white coat.
Ping Xinyu’s eyes lit up, and she hurried over.
“Hello. Are you Doctor Wang Qingshan?”
The doctor tossed the visitor into the Morgue, then turned to look at the young woman before him.
“That’s me. What can I do for you?”
“Hello, Doctor Wang. I’m the new anesthesiologist at Dingyang City Central Hospital. I came here hoping to exchange some ideas with you.”
The doctor carefully studied the young woman.
“Who was your mentor?”
“Professor Saishangzha!”
The doctor’s pupils contracted. Most people might not be familiar with that name, but those in the medical profession knew it well.
Saishangzha was a man utterly devoted to medicine. He had dedicated his entire life to oncology and cytology research.
His research had now borne fruit, earning him a Nobel Prize in Medicine.
“Let’s have lunch together. I still have work to do right now.”
The doctor agreed without hesitation. As a student of Professor Saishangzha, Ping Xinyu was unquestionably qualified to speak with him as an equal.
Their exchange might spark new ideas. One of them might even come away inspired to write a paper that would change the world.
Ping Xinyu nodded and did not disturb the doctor any further. Spotting the Giant Swing nearby, she headed toward it.
There was still time left in the morning. She might as well finish her assignment first, then have a long talk with the doctor over lunch.
Following the line of visitors, Ping Xinyu soon put on a protective suit and took her seat.
Her eyes, however, were unfocused. Her mind was still occupied with what she should discuss at lunch.
