Chapter 156
Chapter 156
Su Ban’s eyes lit up instantly. “Really?”
“Really!”
At Nangong Zhi’s answer, Su Ban immediately sank into a delightful fantasy.
The Captain!
Even if he only got to be Captain for one day, that would still be enough to give Nangong Zhi a taste of the pain they suffered in training, right?
A cross-country run with a thirty-kilogram load?
No, no, that was far too cliché!
It had to be at least sixty kilograms!
With that wonderful vision in mind, Su Ban led the group all the way to the Destiny Ejection Chair.
To make sure Nangong Zhi was fully convinced, Su Ban chose the most terrifying-looking attraction he could find.
Once everyone was seated, Nangong Zhi calmly climbed back down.
“Captain?”
“Captain, where are you going?”
“I’ll wait for you down here. Good luck!”
Nangong Zhi wasn’t stupid, and there was certainly nothing wrong with his brain.
Ride that thing?
One look was enough to tell him it was sketchy as hell!
Soon, music began playing, and the Destiny Ejection Chair lurched into motion.
Before Su Ban could mentally prepare himself, it shot up the track.
They hurtled along a hundred meters above the ground.
The raging wind battered his face, instantly robbing his brain of the ability to think.
“What the hell is this thing?!”
Destiny was called destiny for a reason: you never knew what would happen next.
Zhang Bei was sitting on a nearby bench, watching the Destiny Ejection Chair in the sky, when he suddenly remembered something.
Hadn’t he added two Easter eggs when he designed it?
So much time had passed that he’d completely forgotten about them!
He made his way to the control room. “Press that red button three times in a row.”
“Yes, Boss!”
The button was pressed, but everything remained perfectly calm.
Zhang Bei pondered for a moment. What exactly had he designed back then?
Forget it. If he couldn’t remember, there was no point dwelling on it. He could always send Li Yang up there one day and find out.
High above, however, the ride had already flung snot out of Su Ban’s nose.
His chair had now reached a trackless section and was floating in midair using Thermal Air Power.
Then, of all things, the seat beneath him began heating up.
After a few seconds of buildup, a tremendous force suddenly launched Su Ban even higher into the sky.
That was the thing about destiny-it was impossible to predict.
As Su Ban watched the ground recede farther and farther below him, his hands and feet went ice-cold.
His life flashed before his eyes.
One desperate life-and-death struggle with drug traffickers after another. All those grueling battles.
Finally, the images froze on Director Gu’s face.
“They’re all young guys. Wouldn’t it be nice to let them relax at the amusement park?”
Director Gu’s voice seemed to echo in his ears.
“Old Gu, if I make it back alive, I’m tearing your office apart!”
The safety belt around his waist retracted, pulling Su Ban back into his chair.
But he could no longer register anything that happened for the rest of the ride.
His entire body went limp as the safety belt locked him firmly into the chair.
The Destiny Ejection Chair had yet to finish its run when another bus pulled up outside the gates of the Amusement Park.
A group of people in white coats filed out. Xu Kuan wore a bitter, mournful expression.
The monthly day of suffering had come around again. He was so jealous of those internal medicine doctors!
Before he could finish lamenting his fate, another vehicle pulled up.
A group of burly men climbed out.
Xu Kuan’s gaze met that of the Captain leading them.
A single glance was enough for each of them to recognize the other for what he was: a public servant sent here to suffer.
Naturally, this group had also come because of the official directive. Like Nangong Zhi, they served under Director Gu.
They were simply from the Criminal Investigation and Anti-Smuggling Division.
The two groups joined up and headed into the Amusement Park together.
The first thing that came into view was Nangong Zhi following Professor Wei, pushing a cart loaded with his teammates toward the Morgue.
The Smuggling Division officers, who were visiting for the first time, stared in shock.
Holy shit. Was it really that intense?
Even the guys who dealt with drug dealers for a living had passed out?
When Nangong Zhi saw the group approaching, he greeted them enthusiastically.
The medical team knew the amusement park inside and out, so they had naturally gotten in line bright and early.
But this was the Smuggling Division’s first visit, so of course they had to ask Nangong Zhi for pointers.
A little over ten minutes later, the Narcotics Unit officers slowly began to wake up as well.
The moment they saw that everyone around them was a colleague from the same bureau, a crushing sense of humiliation washed over them.
How embarrassing!
Zhang Bei also noticed the massive crowd.
He was just about to go over and say hello when a voice rang out beside him.
“Holy shit! You stole my fucking phone?”
Stole his phone?
Zhang Bei frowned. Before getting on any ride, visitors were required to lock their phones inside a pouch.
The pouch itself was attached to their Wristband with an iron chain.
There were surveillance cameras all around the Morgue, making theft almost impossible.
Turning around, he saw a man sprawled limply across a bench, pointing at a masked man and cursing his head off.
As the owner, Zhang Bei naturally rushed over first when something like this happened.
With one swift roundhouse kick, he sent the thief flying.
As soon as the thief hit the ground, he knew things had gone south. With a flick of one hand, a switchblade appeared in his grip.
“Don’t fucking stick your nose into other people’s business!” he shouted while backing away.
Zhang Bei glanced at the crowd closing in, then silently took two steps back.
Forget it. Their eyes were practically glowing. It would do them good to blow off some steam.
The thief had only just turned around when he found himself facing a wall of hulking men.
Nangong Zhi charged forward first. He grabbed the thief’s arm and twisted it with one hand, sending the switchblade clattering to the ground.
His overwhelming strength also produced a sharp crack from the thief’s arm.
Not to be outdone, the Captain of the Smuggling Division drove a powerful punch straight into the thief’s ribs.
Another crack rang out, and the thief’s face went deathly pale.
The officers who had only just recovered now crowded around him as well.
Taking in the gruesome scene before him, Zhang Bei silently pressed the button on his walkie-talkie.
“Doctor, go to the Emergency Room and grab some trauma supplies.”
“Is a visitor hurt?”
“Sort of. We’re over by Morgue No. 1.”
“I’ll be right there!”
Zhang Bei looked at the thief’s miserable state and sighed.
Should he call this guy lucky or unlucky?
He was unlucky because he had just happened to run into this crowd today, of all days.
But he was also lucky because the amusement park currently had more than ten emergency doctors alone.
Even if he wanted to die, they wouldn’t let him.
This time, the doctor did not even bring a cart. Carrying only a medical kit, he sprinted the entire way and soon arrived in front of Zhang Bei.
“Where is he? Who got hurt?”
Zhang Bei pointed ahead. “Over there. A thief. They just finished beating him.”
The moment the doctor saw the figure lying on the ground, he forgot about everything else.
He sprinted straight toward the thief.
After completing a series of examinations, even the doctor couldn’t help shuddering.
The man was unconscious, for starters.
He had three broken ribs. Of his two arms, one was dislocated, while the other was fractured outright.
Both lower legs were broken, and even both of his middle fingers had been snapped.
Still, it was obvious that the crowd had held back. Despite all the injuries across his body, not a single internal organ had been damaged.
The doctor carefully checked him over once more before slowly raising his head.
