Chapter 180
Chapter 180
Li Yang had barely run a few meters when a figure blocked his path.
“What’s the rush?”
Li Yang focused his gaze. The person standing before him was none other than Zhang Bei.
“Are you the real boss?”
“How could I be fake?”
Li Yang’s brain briefly kicked into gear.
This boss should… possibly… maybe be real?
Behind him, the monster that had been chasing him also stopped.
“Don’t go near him! He’s a monster!”
Li Yang looked back, his eyes going blank.
Two bosses?
To make them easier to tell apart, Li Yang quickly decided on a naming scheme.
He would call the one he had encountered first Boss No. 1, and the one behind him Boss No. 2.
Boss No. 2 narrowed his eyes at Boss No. 1 in the distance.
“A monster?”
Li Yang considered this for a moment, then edged slightly closer to Boss No. 2.
He had seen Boss No. 1’s snake head and human body with his own eyes. By comparison, Boss No. 2 seemed much more trustworthy.
Boss No. 2’s smile was so familiar that the moment he spoke, Li Yang instinctively moved closer to him.
“You think a cheap illusion will work?”
As he spoke, a hand came to rest on Li Yang’s shoulder.
Boss No. 1 stared fixedly at Boss No. 2, then broke into a grin as well.
“I want half!”
“Deal!”
The moment the words left their mouths, Boss No. 1 and Boss No. 2 began to transform.
Boss No. 1 still had a snake’s head and a human body, but Boss No. 2’s head turned into a gigantic man-eating flower.
Unable to withstand the visual shock, Li Yang rolled his eyes back and fainted on the spot.
Zhang Bei scrolled through the tablet in his hands, looking extremely satisfied.
Next, it was time to test the Memory Attenuation Technology!
The technology had been handed over to the Laboratory at the same time as the water park project.
However, this particular technology was intended for use in Another Life.
In essence, it stimulated the subject’s brainwaves to ease their emotions.
Zhang Bei pressed a switch on the chair, and the tension gradually faded from Li Yang’s face.
Less than two minutes later, Li Yang opened his eyes.
Finding his vision obstructed, he immediately pulled off the goggles.
“Boss!”
Zhang Bei was completely unaffected by his furious tone. “Think back on what happened. How do you feel?”
Li Yang paused and recalled everything he had just experienced.
“It feels like I watched a movie. I’m not that scared anymore.”
Zhang Bei glanced at the tablet and nodded. “The test is over. Rest for a while, then get back to work!”
Li Yang’s mouth fell open as he watched his boss walk away.
Had he been used as a guinea pig again?
Wait. Hadn’t he volunteered himself this time?
He gazed at the distant scenery, his heart filled with melancholy.
Deep inside a concealed underground Laboratory, a white-haired old man looked at the data in his hands and slammed the table.
“One month! An entire month! And now you’re telling me the engine research failed?”
The young man standing behind him shuddered.
“I’m sorry, Academician Chang. I wasn’t capable enough.”
Academician Chang waved a hand. “Where did the problem occur?”
“There’s a formula missing from the third conduction pathway. We couldn’t derive it ourselves.”
Academician Chang frowned. “Wasn’t the documentation complete?”
“The documentation is very comprehensive, but some of the finer details weren’t included. Do you think we could ask the author to come and help us?”
Academician Chang’s expression darkened even further when he heard this.
Ask the author?
He wanted to do that too!
But after what had happened, who among them could swallow their pride and go to Zhang Bei?
At the thought, Academician Chang slammed the table again.
“A bunch of useless fools! You can’t accomplish anything, but you’re more than capable of ruining it!”
The young man silently retreated two steps.
Academician Chang was infamous for his bad temper. Provoking him at a time like this might very well get someone beaten to death.
The last person who failed to read the room was now deep in the remote mountains, gathering field data.
Academician Chang waved a hand. “Go back for now. I’ll figure something out.”
As he watched the young man leave, Academician Chang frowned deeply.
They were the aerospace engine R&D team. After receiving the Thermal Air Power data, they had spent an entire month working to overcome the technical hurdles.
Yet they had made no progress on power output for a full month.
Before, they could have asked Professor Li to approach Zhang Bei.
But now?
He had even moved his Laboratory away. It was obvious he no longer wanted anything to do with them.
The data Zhang Bei had handed over had also earned him a shield of protection.
As long as he remained in the country, no one was permitted to disturb him.
It was an ironclad order. No one dared violate it.
Previously, Academician Chang and Professor Li had entered a secret Laboratory to research electromagnetic applications.
They had been cut off from the outside world during that time and could not receive any news.
Although it had only been a little over half a month, that was still enough time for certain people to exploit the situation.
Punishments had indeed been handed down, but they could not win back Zhang Bei, an invaluable national asset.
Academician Chang held the documents and remained silent for a long time.
In the end, he let out a long sigh and picked up the phone. “Notify the driver. I’m going to see that person.”
“Yes!”
That evening, a small meeting was convened.
Zhang Bei, however, knew nothing about it. He was sitting in a chair, staring at the invitation before him.
It had been sent by the neighboring Future Amusement Park, inviting Zhang Bei to come for a tour.
But given all the publicity they had put out lately, their message could not have been clearer.
They were ready to go head-to-head with Zhang Bei in Dingyang City. The invitation was effectively a declaration of war.
Zhang Bei rubbed his chin. When he saw the forecast calling for rain the next day, a smile appeared on his face.
The next day soon arrived. After traveling for more than two hours, a minibus stopped outside an Amusement Park.
Its futuristic entrance looked like something straight out of science fiction, while the endless stream of visitors made its popularity obvious.
A man in a suit approached them with a broad smile.
He was Luo Yi, manager of the Shuidong City Branch of Future Amusement Park, and he was the one who had sent the invitation.
“Welcome, Boss Zhang! We’re honored by your presence!”
Zhang Bei walked over with his employees. “We’ll have to trouble Mr. Luo to show us around today!”
“We’d also appreciate it if Boss Zhang could point out any shortcomings you find!”
“You’re too kind. My Amusement Park hasn’t even been open for a year yet!”
On the surface, the two men were perfectly polite. In reality, sparks were flying between them.
Luo Yi’s opening welcome might have sounded respectful, but what he really meant was: You actually had the nerve to come?
Zhang Bei’s response was equally pointed.
You invited me, so why wouldn’t I dare come?
Luo Yi had asked him to point out their shortcomings, but what he was really saying was that Zhang Bei was a country bumpkin who had never seen anywhere so futuristic.
Zhang Bei’s counterattack struck just as hard.
My amusement park has only been around for a year, yet it has already made you feel threatened. That just shows how useless you people are.
Of all the employees standing behind them, only the two elderly professors understood the exchange.
Professor Yao lowered his voice and turned to Chef Li.
“What did the boss say we were here for today again?”
Chef Li thought for a moment. “To look around?”
Professor Yao narrowed his eyes as he studied the smile on their boss’s face.
This was supposed to be a tour?
He looked more like he had come to pick a fight!
They knew better than anyone what their own Amusement Park was like.
Did he really expect these long-suffering employees to come somewhere else for thrills?
Li Yang alone could probably clear every attraction here without so much as changing his expression.
