Chapter 253
Chapter 253
The employee sighed, turned, and headed outside.
It wasn’t as if their family owned shares here. Why worry so much?
It might just be a little embarrassing afterward.
Like Future Amusement Park these days.
Someone would ask, “Where do you work?”
“Future Amusement Park!”
“Oh, the one where the staff were scared into quitting?”
With the new manager refusing to listen, conversations like that would probably soon be happening to Disney.
Zhang Bei and the others followed the employee in a great procession to an entrance.
There was no denying that Disney put real care into its attractions.
The new facility was a Haunted House incorporating brand-new technology, its entrance built to resemble the hatch of a spaceship.
Two very pretty young women stood by the door. Li Yang couldn’t help swallowing.
One of them spoke very politely. “Are you Boss Zhang?”
Zhang Bei nodded. “That’s me.”
“Please come with me. Our manager has made all the arrangements.”
Zhang Bei glanced back. “How many people can go on this attraction?”
The young woman kept a smile on her face, though inwardly she was miserable.
These days, who could spend even a few months in the industry without hearing the legends of Boss Zhang?
He was a demon who treated visitors as playthings and even toyed with their lives.
“Anywhere from two to ten!”
Zhang Bei looked at the bald and partially bald men gathered around him.
“Six places left. Since you’ve all got nothing to do, who’s coming?”
The entire group took a synchronized step backward.
Unlike Boss Zhang, they actually paid attention to industry information.
They knew exactly which amusement park had opened which new attraction.
All the more so with Disney, the most popular park in the country.
This new attraction was called Spaceship Survival, and it was unquestionably horror-themed.
Send their old bones onto that thing?
It would be kinder to cut them down with a single blow.
Zhang Bei frowned. “Manager Luo, find five more people. We’ll go together.”
Hiding at the back of the crowd, Luo Yi let out a long sigh.
Ridiculous. I’ve moved this far away. How did you even spot me?
Since he had been singled out, Luo Yi gave up hiding.
He scanned the crowd.
“Dinosaur Park, Fantawild, Happy Valley…”
Looking at the five men whose names had been called, Zhang Bei beamed.
“Come on. Let’s all go in!”
The ten of them marched through the spaceship’s entrance in a great procession.
Li Yang suppressed the excitement in his eyes. “Boss, how are we playing this one?”
Zhang Bei took in the general layout. “There should be an Employee Passage in the wall about three meters to the left. See if you can open it.”
Luo Yi rubbed his less-than-luxuriant head of hair. “You can even tell that?”
Zhang Bei sighed. “I’m a designer!”
Half-convinced, Li Yang began feeling along the wall.
He soon found a section that could be pressed inward.
At the sight of the pitch-black passage before them, the group huddled together began growing excited.
You Bai slapped her forehead. Anything that involved her boss was bound to turn strange.
What normal person entered a Haunted House and immediately went looking for the Employee Passage?
Zhang Bei circled the starting room.
“This room should connect to their changing room. Want to go?”
“Yes!”
Luo Yi’s voice was exceptionally firm.
How had Future Amusement Park ended up being mocked for so long?
He knew that whole story inside out.
Now that the opportunity had arisen, why not drag a good brother into sharing his suffering?
The next time all the amusement park managers sat down together, at least someone would help take the pressure off!
Zhang Bei glanced up. “Follow me. Stay out of the cameras.”
With that, he took the lead, avoiding the cameras’ field of view as he headed deeper down the passage.
Behind him came nine ill-intentioned freaks who were actually growing more and more excited.
Watching the figures disappear from view, the employees in the Monitoring Room suddenly had a bad feeling.
“Do you think they’ll be all right?”
“With that Boss Zhang? What could possibly happen to him?”
“I meant our NPCs.”
The entire Monitoring Room fell silent.
“Fuck! Don’t just sit there! Contact them!”
Someone nearby hurriedly pressed the walkie-talkie button, but all that came through was static.
Inside Spaceship Survival, Boss Zhang was holding a small sphere and continuously adjusting its frequency.
He had brought this device back from his last visit to the Island.
It was a minor component of the defensive system.
Its function was simple: disrupt radio transmissions. If it located the right frequency, it could also be used to eavesdrop.
For this trip to wreck… conduct a friendly exchange, Zhang Bei had brought it along.
“Just in case” it came in handy.
And so, under the Disney manager’s arrangements, all twenty NPCs in the opening section remained hidden in their corners, completely unaware.
Led by Boss Zhang, the group changed into all sorts of costumes.
The heartless Boss Zhang even found the remote control for the lighting.
Seeing everyone ready, Zhang Bei broke into a smile.
“I just had a look around. The second scene should be next door. There’s someone in the passage.”
Having designed so many attractions, Boss Zhang had an exceptionally precise grasp of where scares would be triggered.
Any designer with a functioning brain would arrange things this way.
It had nothing to do with ability, and everything to do with understanding human nature.
The group slunk furtively into a small room.
Before them, two employees in ghost masks were watching the passage outside through the glass.
“Why aren’t they here yet?”
“You don’t think they still haven’t found the way?”
“Can’t be. If they hadn’t, we’d have had a prompt over the walkie-talkie.”
“Keep watch, then. I’m going to the bathroom.”
“Be quick!”
The air was very still. For more than ten seconds, nobody made a sound.
“Why haven’t you gone yet?”
The NPC watching the glass turned to look at his trembling colleague.
“B-behind you!”
The words had barely left his mouth before he scrambled and stumbled out of the room.
Utterly bewildered, his remaining companion turned his head.
That single glance seemed to last ten thousand years. In the dim room, it looked as though the costumes piled in the changing room had floated out on their own.
Zhang Bei aimed the remote at the room’s only light and pressed a button.
The light immediately began flickering.
Beside him, Li Yang spoke through the voice changer Boss Zhang had found.
“You wear our skins every day. Shouldn’t we have a nice little chat?”
That desolate female voice convinced him, body and soul, that this was real.
Seized by the greatest terror of his life, the last NPC ran for the corridor.
As mentioned earlier, this attraction incorporated some new technology.
In certain places, optical camouflage made a wall look like a passage.
The two fleeing men met in a dead end.
They exchanged a glance, both filled with despair.
In the distance, ten vengeful ghosts were drifting eerily toward them.
In their desperation, their brains suddenly started working again, and they pressed the buttons on their walkie-talkies.
