Chapter 226
Chapter 226
Heizi hesitated for a long time before finally picking up his phone and tapping the call button.
He couldn’t help it. The pressure Boss Zhang put on him was simply too great to act without thinking things through.
“I’m coming back tomorrow!”
“What, had enough fun?”
Zhang Bei’s voice was as sarcastic as ever.
“I’m coming back to recruit people. My secretary poached more than half my office staff.”
“How many days?”
“If everything goes smoothly, I can get it done in one.”
“Fine. We’ll talk when you get back.”
“All right!”
Heizi hung up, a smile curling across his lips.
My dear secretary!
Your adorable and beloved President Qiu is coming back!
Sitting in the Cafeteria, Zhang Bei rubbed his chin thoughtfully. Waiting one more day wouldn’t hurt anyway.
He might as well head to the Island with Heizi.
If they had enough time, he could also stop by the security company for a look.
It was another uneventful day-except for the secretary currently sitting in his office, gripped by terror.
Time flew, and in the blink of an eye, the next day arrived.
Early that morning, Heizi flew back to Dingyang City.
Sitting beside him was his trembling secretary.
“P-President Qiu!”
Heizi lit a cigarette and narrowed his eyes.
“I won’t punish you this time. You know Oracle, right?”
“I do!”
“I’ve got my eye on their technical and public relations teams. You have eight hours to poach them for me.”
The secretary’s eyes went round.
Was that even humanly possible?
Eight hours!
How was anyone supposed to poach an entire team in eight hours?
That company had been around since 1977! How the hell was he supposed to pull that off?
“President Qiu, a month might be possible!”
“Either I send you to the Amusement Park for a month, or you go to Yanjing and poach them for me right now!”
The secretary took a deep breath, yanked open the car door, got out, and ran straight toward the airport.
The wind brushed his face, carrying away a tear.
He couldn’t help recalling the contract he’d signed when he joined the company.
It locked him in for a full ten years and came with all kinds of noncompete restrictions and confidentiality clauses.
Money was never easy to earn.
He had received a lump sum of two hundred thousand when he signed on, but he had also paid a terrible price.
Now, even resigning would be difficult!
Heizi watched his secretary disappear into the distance, then silently slid into the driver’s seat and started the car.
As the boss, of course he had to hand the work off to his subordinates.
Otherwise, what had he hired them for?
To stand around and watch him work himself to the bone?
He drove on and soon arrived at the Amusement Park.
Watching the visitors come and go, Heizi stretched lazily.
He was so envious!
If he could, he genuinely wished he could trade places with Boss Zhang.
A few minutes later, a convoy pulled up.
One ramrod-straight soldier after another assembled behind Heizi.
“President Qiu, everyone’s here!”
Cha Bing shrank back as he looked at the place before him.
Fate truly worked in mysterious ways.
He had only just endured a round of torment here yesterday, and now he was back again today.
Miserable didn’t even begin to describe it.
With Heizi at the head, the large group of suited soldiers marched imposingly into the Amusement Park.
Professor Yao was whistling as he pushed a cart, thoroughly enjoying life.
His gaze locked onto the group almost instantly.
Huh?
Had the boss finally provoked someone he couldn’t afford to offend?
Was he finally going to see the boss get beaten up?
Should he stand off to the side and enjoy the show, or should he stand off to the side and enjoy the show?
The imposing group soon found Zhang Bei.
At that moment, Zhang Bei was crouched at the entrance to the Underground Maze, watching a group of workers remove the black tarps.
All of a sudden, a murderous aura erupted behind him, making Boss Zhang leap to his feet.
Holy shit, another murderer?
Only after assuming a fighting stance did he finally see Heizi’s already dark face looking even darker than usual.
Heizi watched Zhang Bei’s movements in silence for a long moment.
“Has your persecution complex really gotten this bad?”
Zhang Bei coughed lightly and immediately changed the subject. “Aren’t you going to the company?”
“No need. Nothing back home requires my attention.”
Zhang Bei nodded, then smiled brightly at the workers who had already come out.
“Perfect. The new attraction needs ten people. Want in?”
Heizi’s eyes instantly filled with wariness.
It wasn’t as if this was his first time at this godforsaken place. He knew exactly what it was like.
“I brought gifts for your employees! I’ll go get them now!”
As soon as the words left his mouth, he bolted toward the exit of the amusement park.
Zhang Bei watched Heizi flee but didn’t press him.
Instead, his gaze shifted to Cha Bing, who had been enjoying the spectacle.
“Pick some people and lead them down.”
Cha Bing had never imagined that merely watching the drama would get him dragged into it. His expression turned bitter.
“Do I have to?”
“Yes!”
Cha Bing opened his mouth, but in the end, all he could do was let out a long sigh.
He swept his gaze around the area before quickly settling on a five-person squad.
“Zhuque, you’re with us!”
Zhang Bei raised an eyebrow at the squad emerging from the crowd.
There was no other reason-all five of them were beautiful women!
Zhuque Squad was one of the very few all-female special forces units.
Heizi had poured a great deal of effort into this squad.
Their equipment was nothing short of extravagant. They were armed to the teeth in the truest sense of the phrase.
The group of ten accepted the glasses from Zhang Bei, headed down the passage, and arrived at the second underground level.
A wooden door appeared before them.
Beside it stood a massive stone tablet, on which three large characters had been carved in traditional Chinese script:
[Huang Family Village]
Captain Zhuque frowned. “Is this place scary?”
Cha Bing smiled bitterly. “It’s new, so I don’t know. Just be careful, no matter what.”
Cha Bing took the lead and was the first to push open the door.
Back aboveground, Zhang Bei waved at everyone who remained.
“I don’t have many rules here. Go find somewhere to have fun!”
“Thank you, boss!”
Once the crowd dispersed, Zhang Bei laid out his usual four-piece setup and settled in to watch the surveillance feeds.
The new attraction could be considered a bona fide Haunted House.
It also employed the same Memory Attenuation technology Cha Bing had experienced last time.
The Haunted House was called “Desolate Village Survival,” but Zhang Bei preferred to call it “Who Is the Mole?”
After all, this was an attraction Boss Zhang had spent ages designing!
On the screen, the two squads had already pushed open the wooden door and entered.
A red figure flashed past their eyes.
Every hair on Cha Bing’s body stood on end, and he silently retreated two steps.
Captain Zhuque shot him a disdainful look before taking the lead and moving forward.
Cha Bing opened his mouth, but ultimately said nothing.
Until someone experienced this place for themselves, they would never listen, no matter what anyone told them.
Seeing his own teammates trembling, Cha Bing was filled with despair.
The area wasn’t particularly large. Stone cottages lined both sides of the road.
Countless twisting lanes intersected with one another, making it easy to get lost with the slightest lapse in attention.
After the group made a full circuit, Captain Zhuque frowned.
“Looks like we’ll have to enter the houses. To save time, let’s split up!”
Cha Bing: ???
“Wait, listen to me!”
“This place isn’t big. If anything happens, just shout!”
With that, Captain Zhuque led her squad off in one direction.
The five trembling, burly men exchanged looks, ten eyes meeting in shared dread.
“Captain, wh-what do we do?”
Cha Bing took a deep breath. “What else can we do? Enter the houses and search for clues!”
