Chapter 297
Chapter 297
Heizi gathered his words. “The idea came from Iron Man. You know how the armor can drop out of the sky?”
Zhang Bei paused.
Well, damn. Just… damn!
He really dared to dream!
Still, anything related to combat seemed to give Heizi an inexhaustible stream of inspiration.
At first, Zhang Bei had only provided some electromagnetic technology.
Starting with the original Electromagnetic Cannon, Heizi had led a research team in developing more than ten kinds of weapon.
From man-portable Electromagnetic Cannons to electromagnetic area bombardment, and finally the Island’s most advanced weapon yet.
The Global Electromagnetic Missile!
All of them had begun as Heizi’s ideas and been completed by the research team.
In some respects, President Qiu contributed no less than an academician specializing in military technology!
Most of the suggestions for the current mecha had come from Heizi too.
He had even selected their weapons personally.
He might spend his days blowing things up around the Amazon, but often the explosions themselves inspired him.
“As long as they aren’t space-based weapons. Make sure we keep the peace!”
“Don’t worry. Nobody loves nuclear peace more than I do!”
Zhang Bei missed Heizi’s hidden meaning and hung up.
Heizi put down his phone and quietly sighed in relief. He had talked his way out of it!
Those two large spheres did contain four mecha, but the machines occupied only one of them.
The other held twelve miniature fusion missiles.
Nuclear peace was no joke.
Zhang Bei wasn’t the only one watching the launch.
Two old men who ought to have been undergoing medical examinations sat before a computer under a doctor’s unrelenting gaze.
“The kid really pulled it off!”
“With his technology, it was only a matter of time.”
“They’ve seemed fairly well-behaved lately?”
“Well-behaved?”
The old man nearly laughed aloud at the report he had read that day.
Zhang Bei was indeed behaving himself. Unless something major happened, he rarely appeared.
But that President Qiu had done quite a few major things lately.
“By the way, how have those places reacted?”
“It’s fine. Just a satellite. Nothing that important.”
“True. They’ll be begging us to build power plants for them soon anyway.”
Their conversation was relaxed and pleasant. A secret underground Laboratory in the northwest, however, was far less peaceful.
“Repeat what you just said!”
An old man in his fifties was so angry that even his eyebrows shook.
The young assistant ducked his head and carefully read the note in his hand.
“Lao Wang, we’ve been specially recruited. The Laboratory is in your hands now!”
The old man sat in his chair, panting heavily.
“Who went?”
“Academician Li from biological research, Academician Ji from ecological research, the power and engineering research division…”
The list totaled fifteen people.
Darkness swam before the old man’s eyes. He nearly fainted.
“I only have twenty academicians here, and you’re telling me fifteen have left?”
The assistant ducked his head and didn’t dare speak.
Here was proof of the importance of emotional intelligence.
Professor Li’s assistant certainly wouldn’t have kept quiet at a moment like this.
At the very least, he would have offered, “I never said that!”
After a long silence, the old man asked, “Do we know who poached my people?”
“No. Group Leader Yuan said it’s classified.”
Bang!
Unable to contain his anger any longer, the old man slammed a hand onto the desk.
“Get the electromagnetic gun from my lab. Today I’m going to ask that bastard Shen whether he’s giving my people back!”
The assistant ducked his head and hurried out.
Get the gun?
Sorry. The old man could afford to offend Group Leader Shen. He couldn’t.
Best to warn someone quickly and earn himself a chance to survive.
As for where those fifteen academicians had gone?
Poaching talent was a time-honored tradition, wasn’t it?
Building a base on the Moon inevitably required a great many researchers.
Arthur, after all, still lacked the creativity of Strong Artificial Intelligence.
Naturally, all these miscellaneous headaches were now Meng Chuan’s responsibility.
Zhang Bei only had to provide the broad ideas. Weren’t secretaries there to work?
Back in the staff Cafeteria, Chef Li set the fried balls on the table.
“Two mustard ones in total, as the boss requested.”
No one dared reach first for the plate of steaming meatballs.
This wasn’t something one mouthful of mustard would settle!
Their lives were at stake!
“Would you like me to feed you?”
You Bai reacted first to Zhang Bei’s voice.
She picked up a ball and put it straight into her mouth.
It was all luck anyway. She firmly believed she would be fine.
The others each took a couple and cautiously put them into their mouths.
Boss Zhang, however, kept his eyes fixed on Li Yang.
For no other reason than the kid’s rotten luck.
Whatever miserable thing happened, he was always the first to encounter it.
A scream from one side suddenly drew everyone’s attention.
Gu Yue?
No one had expected her to be first!
Before they could recover, Li Yang screamed as well.
Zhang Bei stared in bewilderment at the two brave souls wiping away tears.
Had the matchmaking god tied them together with steel rebar?
Even this connected them?
Li Yang wiped his eyes and looked at Gu Yue beside him.
“Boss, can she stay behind?”
“No. We agreed on two people.”
“Let Qingqing replace her.”
“Fine!”
Zhang Bei didn’t care. Whoever went was fine, as long as at least one was his employee.
Qingqing had just swallowed her meatball. Her gaze instantly locked onto Li Yang.
Endless hurt and confusion filled her eyes.
He really had been cast from the same mold as Boss Zhang!
In this wretched Amusement Park, every step led into another pitfall!
Zhang Bei gave her no chance to object. He wrote out a formula and handed it to her.
“Medicinal formula. Apply externally.”
Qingqing nodded mechanically and sat down in silence.
Long ago, she had been a graduate of a prestigious university, a cute outdoor streamer.
When had things turned into this?
Why had life become so difficult?
Only once the matter was settled did a doctor approach from a distance.
“Boss, the financial newspaper contacted me. They’d like an exclusive interview.”
“No. I have social anxiety. I like staying at the Amusement Park.”
The doctor stared.
Qingqing stared.
Li Yang stared.
And so did everyone else.
Social anxiety?
As in, he made all of society anxious?
Zhang Bei had merely grabbed an excuse to refuse. He was well practiced by now.
“Let’s eat. It’s already dark.”
Chef Li still hadn’t recovered from “social anxiety,” but at the call for dinner, he mechanically headed toward the kitchen.
Gu Yue drank some water and fell silent as she watched Li Yang’s lowered head.
Was she angry?
Of course. Who wouldn’t be, seeing a little girl so dependent on her future boyfriend?
But after all this time, most of her anger had faded.
Li Yang, however, seemed weighed down by worries. Something else appeared to have gone wrong.

Countless couples were showing affection on the Ferris Wheel.
Zhang Bei hummed a little tune and pressed the red button.
