Chapter 130
Chapter 130
“No way! It’s too scary!”
Xiao Wang’s protest had no effect whatsoever. The Doctor simply dragged his son forward.
Was this little brat more important than making his wife happy?
If he failed to satisfy his wife’s curiosity, he would probably be the one to suffer!
After spending so much time at the amusement park, even if he had never eaten pork, he had at least seen pigs run.
The Human Cannon looked high, but as long as he separated from his son, the parachute wouldn’t descend all that quickly.
As long as he controlled his line of sight and made sure not to look down, those few minutes would pass in no time.
Xiao Wang, completely unaware of what he was about to experience, was carried by the Doctor into the Human Cannon.
Feeling the darkness around him, Xiao Wang tucked in his neck. “Dad, I want to go home.”
“I do too, but your mom’s curiosity…”
Before he could finish, Xiao Wang already understood the rest.
Mrs. Wang was more curious than a cat. Once something caught her interest, there was no stopping her.
With a low, rumbling roar, the Doctor hugged Xiao Wang tightly as they shot into the sky.
Before the parachute could even open, the Doctor found the pull ring and yanked it hard.
Xiao Wang’s still-trembling body instantly separated from the Doctor.
Down below, Mrs. Wang’s eyes were filled with satisfaction.
This ride really was the most fun when you watched someone else play it!
Zhang Bei was still waiting to see the look on the Doctor’s face when the ringing of his phone interrupted his thoughts.
“Professor Li, what’s up?”
“How long has it been since you last came to the Laboratory, you brat?”
Listening to the irritable voice on the phone, Zhang Bei thought it over carefully.
“Twenty days?”
Professor Li clutched the phone tightly as he stared at the sealed doors of the Laboratory.
“Get to the Laboratory now. Immediately. This instant!”
Zhang Bei scratched his head. “What happened?”
Professor Li took several deep breaths in a row to calm himself down.
“Do you know the Laboratory confidentiality protocols?”
“The what now?”
Holding the phone, Zhang Bei fell completely into confusion. Are you sure you’re speaking Chinese?
How come I can’t understand a single word?
Professor Li began explaining in plain, easy-to-understand language.
“When a research project requiring a high level of confidentiality appears in the Laboratory, everyone except the person in charge is forbidden from communicating with the outside world or leaving the Laboratory without authorization.”
Hearing this, Zhang Bei’s mind instantly echoed with that string of out-of-service notifications.
Without bothering with anything else, Zhang Bei grabbed his car keys and rushed out of the amusement park.
It had been at least half a month since he handed over the materials.
Half a month without internet access, without any contact with the outside world.
And the Laboratory didn’t even have showers. It was hard to imagine what those people had turned into by now.
Filled with worry, Zhang Bei drove all the way to the entrance of the Laboratory.
The first thing he saw was the professor standing at the door, with a fully armed soldier beside him.
When Zhang Bei got out of the car, Professor Li’s eyes looked as if they wanted to devour him.
“So you still remember you have a Laboratory?”
Zhang Bei coughed lightly. “Let’s go in first. We’ll talk inside!”
Professor Li rolled his eyes at Zhang Bei, then followed him step by step into the Laboratory.
The moment the coded door opened, four wild-looking savages with disheveled hair stared at him with green-glowing eyes.
Zhang Bei silently took two steps back. “Was that thing successfully developed?”
Zhu Xiaotong looked like she wanted to eat him alive. “It succeeded five days ago!”
When Guan Guo saw Professor Li, he decided to spare his boss for the time being.
“The item is here. The detailed materials have already been prepared.”
From the disciple who had been buying meals, Professor Li had learned that this project was so critical that Zhang Bei could be placed under protection as a national treasure.
If those four hadn’t done such a good job keeping things under wraps, this place probably would have been turned into a military-controlled zone long ago.
Even so, Professor Li had secretly arranged for no fewer than ten people to keep watch around the clock.
It wasn’t until recently that Professor Li noticed something unusual from the daily purchase records.
Aside from boxed meals, no other materials had been bought at all.
Clearly, the experiment had to be finished. But Zhang Bei had never shown his face, and that left Professor Li on pins and needles.
Was there some follow-up experiment?
Exactly how far had the R&D progressed?
After a full three days, Professor Li finally realized, belatedly, that this brat might have simply forgotten about the Laboratory.
And that was how today’s scene came to be.
Professor Li picked up the documents on the table with one hand and began flipping through them.
The more he read, the more alarmed he became.
As long as a scenario was set in advance, the facility could let people participate in it directly.
If this thing were mass-produced for training, just how strong would soldiers become after fighting through years of constant warfare?
Just thinking about it made Professor Li’s hand tremble uncontrollably.
Zhang Bei stood to the side watching him. He hesitated, then hesitated again, but in the end, he couldn’t hold back.
“Parkinson’s can be treated too, Professor. Don’t give up!”
Professor Li dragged his gaze away from the documents with great difficulty and looked at Zhang Bei in confusion.
“What Parkinson’s?”
Zhang Bei pointed at Professor Li’s trembling hand.
“Hand tremors. Early sign of Parkinson’s.”
Professor Li silently turned his head away, forcibly suppressing the urge to hit someone.
Hold it in!
He had to hold it in!
This was a treasure. His research ability was incredible. He was absolutely a national-treasure-level talent. He couldn’t hit him!
Damn it, this brat was infuriating!
The moment he thought of all the things this kid had done, his anger instantly surged up.
He kicked Zhang Bei in the backside. “I’m taking the documents. The amusement park can use it, but it absolutely cannot be leaked!”
Zhang Bei hurriedly nodded. “It won’t. Absolutely not!”
One of the fully armed soldiers beside them took the documents from Professor Li and carefully placed them into a combination case.
Then he cuffed the case to his wrist and nodded at Professor Li.
Professor Li swept his gaze around the room.
“Someone will be here shortly to wipe the data. This Laboratory can’t be used for the time being.”
Zhang Bei immediately jumped up. “This is my private property!”
“It’s being requisitioned now. In a couple of days, you’ll get a new Laboratory.”
Hearing that there would be compensation, Zhang Bei curled his lip and stopped talking.
Since he had handed this thing over, they couldn’t possibly be too stingy!
Professor Li turned his gaze to the four savages. “Once this thing finishes verification, you’ll all be rewarded too.”
“Thank you, Professor Li!”
Professor Li checked the time. “I’m leaving first. Next time this brat comes up with anything else, contact me immediately!”
After watching Professor Li leave the Laboratory, Zhang Bei hadn’t even had time to breathe a sigh of relief when a vicious gust of wind came from behind him.
Combat experience flashed through his mind. His upper body dipped, and both hands shot backward in an instant.
In the blink of an eye, a figure went flying.
The person lying on the floor was none other than Guan Guo. Looking at how the boss wasn’t even flushed or out of breath, he was filled with sorrow.
This guy was a monster!
The remaining three silently pulled back the feet they had just stepped forward with.
Forget it. Forget it. They couldn’t afford to provoke him!
Zhang Bei helped Guan Guo up with one hand. “Get a good two days’ rest. There’ll be big red envelopes for all of you at the end of the year!”
