Chapter 181
Chapter 181
Of course, Zhang Bei wasn’t about to enjoy something like this without sharing it with everyone else.
A Dark Girl had even slipped in among the employees.
Qingqing was an old acquaintance, after all. Since the company was footing the bill for this outing anyway, they might as well bring her along.
The group entered the Amusement Park. Luo Yi smiled broadly as he glanced toward a building not far away.
“Boss Zhang, would you like to try our Maze? You were the first to develop an attraction like this, after all!”
Zhang Bei’s face immediately darkened. That was clearly a challenge!
The implication was obvious: We have a Maze too, and ours is definitely better than yours!
“Any of you want to give it a try?”
Li Yang darted forward. “Me! Me!”
Qingqing stepped out with him. “Count me in!”
Zhang Bei nodded in satisfaction. “Then you two go. Try to come out soon!”
“Leave it to me!”
Full of confidence, Qingqing grabbed Li Yang and headed for the entrance to the Maze.
There was no way an attraction like this could be built aboveground. It would take up far too much space.
That was why Future Amusement Park had placed its Maze underground as well.
Qingqing and Li Yang continued onward and soon reached the entrance.
A row of doors stood side by side, clearly offering them a choice.
Unlike Boss Zhang’s Maze, the Maze at Future Amusement Park allowed visitors to form teams of up to four people.
After reading the rules, Qingqing couldn’t resist complaining.
“Of course. Only Boss Zhang would make you find a mechanism just to reunite with your teammates!”
Li Yang nodded knowingly. “Which door should we choose?”
Qingqing gave them a quick once-over. “Let’s take the hardest one!”
The two pushed open the door and walked inside.
A wave of blue light swept over them, and the door slammed shut behind them with a click.
A mechanical voice rang out. “The Time-Space Shuttle has encountered spatial turbulence. We have arrived in the Land of Exile. Only by successfully finding your way out can you return to Earth. Warriors, good luck!”
The blue light faded, and at some point, a kerosene lamp had appeared on the floor.
Qingqing picked it up and boldly led the way forward.
The Maze was structured like a spiraling staircase, with the floor constantly rising and falling.
Qingqing’s steps faltered slightly.
“I bet something’s going to jump out at us around that corner.”
Li Yang examined the path carefully. “It’ll probably come from above. The ground over there is clearly a little lower.”
Neither of them paid it any mind, and they continued toward the corner at the same steady pace.
Sure enough, the moment they passed beneath it, a pair of embroidered shoes dropped from overhead.
They moved toward the two of them step by step, as though an invisible person were wearing them.
Li Yang thought for a moment. “A horror-movie trick from the eighties?”
“Pretty much. Let’s keep moving!”
Qingqing hurried onward, holding the kerosene lamp before her.
Before long, however, they both stopped again.
An ancient well stood in front of them, its cover already pushed halfway aside.
Beyond the well was a stone door.
A palm-sized recess had been carved into the door, clearly indicating that something was missing.
“You go down.”
Qingqing handed the kerosene lamp to Li Yang and promptly stepped aside.
Holding the lamp, Li Yang peered into the well.
It was less than two meters deep, but there was clearly a child’s corpse lying at the bottom.
Li Yang jumped straight in. Under the kerosene lamp’s glow, he could clearly see something clutched in the child’s hand.
After watching warily for a moment, he quickly realized that the corpse was nothing more than a realistic prop.
Li Yang considered this. In that case, if they wanted to scare people, they would probably rely on sound effects, right?
Once he figured out the key, Li Yang picked the object up without hesitation.
Just as he turned around, a piercing scream rang out behind him.
Li Yang sighed helplessly.
Was this jump scare frightening?
Without any warning, it really could make someone jump.
But if you asked whether it was actually scary, he hadn’t felt a thing.
He swept his gaze around and quickly spotted some rocks he could climb.
Within seconds, he was back aboveground with the lamp in hand.
Seeing how relaxed Li Yang looked, Qingqing was also rather exasperated.
“How would Boss have designed this?”
Li Yang immediately recalled what he had gone through in the diving facility, and his voice filled with grief and indignation.
“He wouldn’t have prepared an intact corpse in the first place. He’d make you carry a lump of meat paste and smear it onto the door, with eyeballs and noses mixed in…”
“Stop! I can already picture it!”
Qingqing shuddered. The scene was hard to stomach even in her imagination.
Meanwhile, in a room aboveground, Luo Yi suddenly tensed when he heard their conversation through the surveillance feed.
Could this guy have some hidden psychological issues?
Smearing meat paste all over a wall? Seriously?
Forget the visitors-even he wouldn’t be able to handle a scene like that.
Qingqing slotted the stone Li Yang had brought up into the door. A series of clicks rang out, and the same blue light from the beginning appeared once more.
When the blue light faded, a school hallway stood before them.
Li Yang headed forward with the lamp, and Qingqing followed close behind.
After making a full circuit, Li Yang stroked his chin thoughtfully.
“The hallway forms a square loop. Along the way, there’s the principal’s office, the faculty office, two classrooms, and a restroom.”
“Every door is locked except for the first-year classroom.”
Li Yang nodded. “Let’s go. We should be at the puzzle-solving stage now.”
They made their way over and opened the classroom door. A blast of cold air immediately swept in.
Qingqing looked at the pitch-black hallway and commented helplessly, “Let me guess. The door’s about to slam shut, and an NPC will appear at the window.”
The moment she finished speaking, the classroom door slammed shut with a bang, but the NPC failed to appear.
Qingqing scratched her head. “Was I wrong?”
“This is getting boring. Let’s hurry up, find the clues, and clear it.”
The two began searching the entire classroom for clues.
Out in the hallway, a figure stood frozen with one leg raised, unsure whether to bring it down.
Where had these two come from?
Were they here to ruin the attraction?
Wouldn’t he look stupid if he went out now?
But it didn’t seem right not to go out either.
After pondering for a long while, he finally pulled his raised leg back and slipped into hiding through a secret door.
He had to tell the manager next time: stop letting people from the same industry in!
They were completely ruining the experience for him.
The classroom kept the two of them shut inside for a minute before Li Yang emerged first, holding a test paper.
“So the faculty office should be next, right?”
“Right. Its door should be open already.”
The two hurried toward the office. The NPC hiding behind the secret door took a deep breath.
He couldn’t embarrass himself. If he let these two stroll through the entire attraction unchallenged, he’d never live it down!
He activated the mechanism, and a gust of cold air instantly swept through the hallway.
With a ghostly face, he leaped out behind Qingqing.
“Uh… Aah!”
Qingqing turned around. The wind lifted her bangs, revealing a pair of eyes filled with helplessness.
“Your shoelace is untied!”
The NPC: ???
I’m a ghost!
A ghost!
Aren’t you supposed to scream and run away right now?
Who cares whether my shoelace is untied?!
