Chapter 192
Chapter 192
They had recruited a total of one hundred and fifty people, and every last one of them was someone to be reckoned with.
What truly alarmed Zhang Bei was that Heizi had managed to carve out a foothold in the mercenary industry with the Micro Electromagnetic Cannon.
This was the first time Huaxia mercenaries had appeared on the world stage on such a large scale.
Yet the strength they displayed was something no one could afford to underestimate.
Those from Huaxia who had once fought alone had also finally found an organization to call their own.
Even without seeing it for himself, Zhang Bei could imagine how large the security company had become by now.
Heizi had certainly done as he was told. He had been told not to sell weapons, and he really hadn’t sold any.
But taking contracts while using those weapons himself was hardly any different!
Zhang Bei set the document on the table and let out a long sigh.
“I’ll speak to President Qiu about this. You can rest assured.”
The old man merely nodded. “Good. That leaves just one final question. Why is your Electromagnetic Cannon so powerful?”
Zhang Bei looked up at the phone the old man handed him.
A video was playing on the screen. In it, a Huaxia team aimed something resembling a rocket launcher at a tank and pulled the trigger.
A streak of blue electricity flashed. The tremendous kinetic force reduced the steel tank to a cloud of dust in an instant.
The old man pointed at the Electromagnetic Cannon in the video.
“I’ve found that this is roughly thirty percent more powerful than the one we received.”
Zhang Bei studied the Electromagnetic Cannon carefully, then fell silent for a long time.
“Do you have the blueprints for your version?”
The old man flipped through the documents again and pulled out a stack of blueprints.
Zhang Bei went through them page by page and soon found the answer.
“You’re using copper as the conductor?”
The old man froze. “Isn’t ammunition made of copper?”
Zhang Bei placed the documents on the table.
“Silver has the highest electrical conductivity. Isn’t that common knowledge?”
The room abruptly fell silent, and a faint flush crept across the old man’s face.
At that moment, he had only one thought: grab a Type 95 Rifle and press it against those researchers’ heads.
Come on, explain this to me. Why did you make me come all the way here and embarrass myself over something so simple?
Once they were done discussing business, the old man kept Zhang Bei around for a chat.
Time flew by. After having lunch with the old man, Zhang Bei finally returned to the Amusement Park.
The familiar sound of screams soon eased his previously heavy mood.
As he stood at the entrance of the Amusement Park, a figure quietly crept up behind him.
A hand had only just reached out to pat Zhang Bei on the shoulder when his body reacted on pure instinct, even though his mind was still elsewhere.
He caught the wrist with one hand and pivoted, sending the short-haired Dark Girl crashing to the ground.
Qingqing stared up at the clear blue sky as a wave of melancholy washed over her.
Seriously, what was wrong with this guy?
Did he have a persecution complex?
Was that really necessary?!
Zhang Bei snapped back to his senses and reached out to pull Qingqing to her feet.
“Didn’t your boxing coach ever tell you that approaching someone from behind is dangerous?”
Qingqing rubbed her reddened wrist and, for now, entered this incident in her grudge ledger.
“I just wanted to ask if you’d like to play Live-Action Counter-Strike.”
“Counter-Strike?”
“A new outdoor Live-Action Counter-Strike venue just opened. I think the two of us could wipe the floor with everyone there!”
Zhang Bei rubbed his chin. That did sound pretty interesting!
The last time he had played something like that had been many years ago.
After a brief moment of thought, he agreed.
This wasn’t him indulging in play. It was research for the amusement park’s next attraction!
Qingqing scrolled through her phone. “There are still tickets for this afternoon. Want to leave now?”
“I’ll drive!”
Qingqing chuckled and waved a set of car keys. “I got my license. We’ll take my car!”
Zhang Bei was about to agree without a second thought when the scrapes from last time suddenly began throbbing again.
“No, thanks. I’ll drive myself!”
Qingqing shook her fist at Zhang Bei as he fled the scene.
But when she remembered everything she had arranged, a grin instantly spread across her face.
Although Qingqing had only just gotten her license, she had practiced martial arts. Her control over her body was at least better than the average person’s.
They made it smoothly to the foot of a mountain, where a dark green sign hung above a brand-new gate.
Zhang Bei parked in the parking lot. Looking around, he immediately spotted two cars bearing the distinctive logo of a minimalist palace.
They were Tianting’s second-generation model: Erlang Shen!
The initial production run of a hundred thousand had once again sold out in three seconds.
The email Heizi had sent him contained reports on all the relevant data.
Zhang Bei simply wasn’t interested in that sort of thing, though. He only paid attention when a new product launched.
Qingqing tried with all her might but still failed to back into a parking space, so she simply left her car in an open area.
“Let’s go. I’ve already bought the tickets!”
Zhang Bei looked up at the forest, which had been transformed beyond recognition.
“The whole mountain is part of this place?”
“Yeah. Each match has a hundred players. How could that many people have any fun if the field was too small?”
After hearing her explanation, Zhang Bei didn’t think much of it.
He and Qingqing entered the venue, had their tickets checked, collected their equipment, and followed the staff to the entrance.
“Everyone’s here, so let me explain the rules.”
A young woman picked up a megaphone and tapped it twice.
“This entire mountain is within the playing field. In a moment, you’ll enter from different locations in teams of two. Each person gets a backpack containing a random selection of starting supplies.”
Once the crowd quieted down, she continued over the megaphone.
“The watches you’re wearing have built-in trackers, so don’t take them off. One shot to the heart sensor or helmet will eliminate you. Hits to the torso take four shots!”
Zhang Bei lowered his head and examined the toy rifle in his hands.
It was quite heavy. Since it needed electricity to function, a considerable number of batteries had clearly been installed inside.
Soon, four-wheeled off-road vehicles emerged from the passage one after another, each carrying a group of players.
The young woman nodded to the staff member beside her. “Move them in!”
The entrance was actually a dug-out trench about half a meter deep. If he stood upright, he could see what was happening in the neighboring trench.
Zhang Bei carefully checked his backpack. Other than a flare gun, it was completely empty.
“What did you get?”
Qingqing followed behind Zhang Bei with a massive sniper rifle. “One bandage. Using it restores one hit’s worth of health.”
Zhang Bei swept his gaze around, but he couldn’t spot a single person.
“What if someone hides the entire time? Wouldn’t they win by default?”
“No. Every five minutes, the locations of the ten players with the most eliminations are announced. No one can hide forever.”
The moment she finished speaking, Zhang Bei swung his rifle toward the neighboring trench and unleashed a burst of fire.
Two plumes of white smoke rose from inside.
Zhang Bei strode over excitedly and grinned at the two dumbfounded men.
“Hand over anything good you’ve got!”
The two men smiled bitterly and opened their backpacks.
Five magazines and a compass.
Zhang Bei looted everything, then continued forward with Qingqing.
