Chapter 52
Chapter 52
Chef Li was momentarily stunned, then he broke into a grin. “Alright, I’ll go get the ingredients ready right now!”
Evening arrived, and nearly thirty people from the amusement park gathered around the grill.
Li Yang took a massive bite of a meat skewer and followed it with a heavy swig of beer.
“Is this our first team-building event?”
The doctor beside him nodded while chewing on a skewer.
The amusement park was always busy; closing early like they did today was something that had never happened before.
Professor Yao took a bite of meat with a look of mock disdain. “Go easy on the chili. Have some consideration for us old folks.”
Chef Li’s face darkened slightly, but he still dialed back the amount of chili powder in his hand.
Zhang Bei soaked in the late autumn air, which was now thick with the savory aroma of barbecue.
“Wow! To think I was actually worried about you guys, and here you are, closed up and having a barbecue!”
A voice speaking through gritted teeth drifted over, prompting everyone to turn their heads.
Qingqing stood there clutching her laptop, tears of envy practically streaming from the corners of her mouth.
Zhang Bei sighed and moved aside to make some room.
“Want some?”
“Yes!”
Chef Li grabbed another large handful of meat skewers and tossed them onto the grill.
Zhang Bei looked at the laptop Qingqing had set aside. “What are you doing here?”
Qingqing gave a mischievous giggle. “To help out, of course!”
In the time it took her to speak, several mutton skewers suddenly vanished from Zhang Bei’s plate.
“No need. It’s basically all been resolved.”
Qingqing huffed. “My Stream Viewers uploaded the video of the inspection. I bet those people won’t have the time to come looking for trouble with you now.”
Cold sweat instantly broke out on Zhang Bei’s forehead.
“Wait, isn’t that technically inciting a crime?”
Qingqing tilted her head back proudly. “Of course not. I didn’t do anything, and my Stream Viewers didn’t say anything.”
Zhang Bei breathed a sigh of relief, finally understanding what Qingqing meant.
They had simply uploaded the video without posting any commentary or opinions.
“I didn’t think you’d actually be smart for once.”
“What’s that supposed to mean? Was I stupid before?”
Zhang Bei curled his lip but didn’t answer.
Beside them, Li Yang scratched his head. “Sister Qingqing, why did the Boss say it was inciting a crime?”
Qingqing shot Zhang Bei a sidelong glance before explaining.
“I’m a streamer with over a hundred thousand Fans. If I were to direct my Fans to post malicious comments, it would constitute the crime of spreading false information. I could be detained for that at the very least.”
Zhang Bei picked up where Qingqing left off. “In more serious cases, you could even be sentenced for inciting social panic.”
Li Yang scratched his head again. “It’s that complicated?”
Qingqing smiled. “A professional streamer should have an understanding of these things. Otherwise, you wouldn’t even know how you ended up behind bars one day.”
Amidst the laughter and chatter, the night flew by.
The next day, the amusement park opened for business as usual. A group of tourists who had come to test the waters were instantly overjoyed.
“I knew it! The Boss would never just sit around and wait for death!”
“Psh, you could tell from that incident with You Bai last time-the Boss is unfathomable.”
“Go, go, go! They’re open!”
Zhang Bei pushed open the gates of the amusement park and welcomed the first wave of tourists.
In contrast to the cheerfulness here, an office inside the city was currently in a state of absolute turmoil.
“Someone explain to me right now-what is going on with this video?”
“Chief, we’ll find someone to delete the video immediately!”
As soon as the words were spoken, a book was slammed onto the desk.
“Delete it? Tell me, what are you thinking? Do you want to make it even more obvious that we have something to hide? How many times have I told you? In the internet age, you have to be careful about everything!”
The air went still, and the only sound left was the heavy breathing of the people in the room.
A full two minutes later: “Get to that amusement park right now! You have to make that owner admit the video was edited!”
“Yes, Boss, I’m on it!”
In truth, this group wasn’t exactly a formal organization.
As everyone knew, these local departments were always short-handed, which led to the existence of so-called ‘contract workers.’
Most of these contract workers belonged to the same collective.
They took on small favors for certain companies or individuals.
Most of the time, they knew where to draw the line and wouldn’t let things get out of hand.
The City Management Incident from years ago had originated this way.
To put it bluntly, they were a bunch of parasites who were useless for anything other than smearing reputations and spreading misinformation.
Back at the amusement park, the third batch of tourists had already arrived.
The professor Zhang Bei had been waiting for finally arrived, leading a group of people inside.
“Young friend, please take us to see the Roller Coaster.”
Zhang Bei nodded. “This run of the Roller Coaster is about to start. Let’s head straight to where the electromagnetics are installed.”
He led several elderly men and a group of bodyguards to an open space.
Looking up from here, they were directly beneath the Roller Coaster’s cliff-drop section.
Professor Li looked serious, his eyes fixed on a small box-like object beneath the tracks.
“Is that the electromagnetic equipment?”
“That’s the one!”
Hearing their conversation, the other professors who had followed along all smirked.
Every person present was an expert in electromagnetics, yet this shoebox-sized device still exceeded their expectations.
Before long, the Roller Coaster came roaring past.
The elderly men watched intently as the ride sped along.
They saw the Roller Coaster clear the cliff and land perfectly on the other track.
Professor Li grew visibly excited.
“There isn’t even any stray current leakage. This can already be considered a finished product!”
“Remarkable, truly remarkable!”
Just as the professors were marveling at the sight, a voice suddenly rang out nearby.
“Who gave you permission to open this amusement park? Shut it down right now!”
Hearing this, the old men all turned around.
Zhang Bei sat quietly to the side with a smile, enjoying the show.
Professor Li’s expression darkened. “I did. What of it?”
The man’s gaze shifted to the group of elderly men. He was certain he had never seen these people before.
One had to understand that even contract workers were expected to memorize the faces of the heads of various departments.
Clearly, not a single one of these old men was someone he needed to remember.
“And who the hell do you think you are? Operating this Amusement Park is currently illegal. Come with us!”
As the man spoke, he clamped a hand down on Zhang Bei’s shoulder.
Professor Li narrowed his eyes.
“I wasn’t aware there was any law preventing an amusement park from operating normally.”
The man was momentarily amused by the old man’s words. “Disturbing public order. You should spend a few more years reading law books, old man!”
Professor Li’s gaze grew even colder. “Then tell me, exactly which part of this amusement park is non-compliant?”
The man was becoming increasingly annoyed by Professor Li’s constant questioning.
“You’re everywhere, aren’t you? If you keep interfering, you’ll be charged with obstructing official business too!”
“Try arresting me and see what happens.”
“Crap, we’ve really got someone here who isn’t afraid to die!”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the man slapped a pair of handcuffs on Zhang Bei with one hand while reaching out to grab Professor Li with the other.
In that instant, the two bodyguards who had remained silent until now moved.
The man’s world suddenly spun. By the time he regained his senses, he was flat on the ground.
Seeing how fierce the two were, the man’s face darkened as he scrambled up from the pavement.
