Chapter 169
Chapter 169
As Nangong Guo continued onward, a scene not far ahead immediately caught his attention.
A row of tourists lay neatly arranged across the sun-drenched beach.
It looked disturbingly like a mass grave.
After a moment of silence, an ominous feeling rose in Nangong Guo’s heart.
As he kept walking, a ticket booth came into view.
Nangong Guo glanced around before heading straight over.
“Hi. What attraction is this?”
“Simulated Diving. Want to give it a try?”
“Sure. One ticket!”
The employee promptly handed Nangong Guo his ticket.
“You’ll also need to put on some equipment!”
A translucent helmet was placed over his head, and a compact respirator was fitted into his mouth.
Any regular would have known exactly what kind of attraction this was the moment they saw the helmet.
The visor attached to it was almost identical to the one used in the Underground Maze!
Before Nangong Zhi could say anything, the floor vanished beneath his feet, and he dropped straight through it.
This was, of course, another product of Boss Zhang’s twisted sense of humor. The little room housing the ticket booth wasn’t the actual entrance.
The real entrance was beneath the visitor’s feet, and the employee controlled the trapdoor.
Nangong Guo peered through his visor, his eyes sweeping from side to side.
The entire underground space perfectly simulated a deep-sea environment. Even the water pressure felt nearly authentic.
Relying on his compact respirator, Nangong Guo began swimming forward.
The searchlight mounted on his helmet shone brightly, illuminating everything around him.
The deep sea was eerily silent, and coral reefs covered the entire seabed.
He had only been swimming for two minutes and had yet to finish admiring the scenery when a sudden current stirred behind him.
Nangong Guo’s expression tightened, and he hurriedly turned around.
A megalodon was speeding straight toward him.
A shark?
Holy shit! Wasn’t this place an Amusement Park?
What kind of Amusement Park had sharks in it?
Was the owner too broke to buy fish food, so he fed the tourists to it instead?!
In his panic, Nangong Guo spat out two bubbles and kicked his legs frantically, swimming as fast as he could.
Motherfucker!
Stop chasing me, you bastard!
Fuck your mother!
I swear I’ll put a bullet through your head!
The shark chased. He fled. Even if he’d sprouted wings, there would have been no escape.
The megalodon drew closer and closer. Nangong Guo opened his mouth and released another pair of bubbles.
Then a sunken ship appeared in the distance.
Grasping at this lifeline, Nangong Guo swam into the wreck as fast as he could.
The shark gradually retreated, leaving him inside the shipwreck, which looked incredibly sinister beneath the beam of his searchlight.
The ship was enormous, with three full decks. Nangong Guo had entered through the uppermost one.
The entire floor resembled a restaurant, complete with corroded tables and chairs, as well as a skeleton lying on the floor.
Nangong Guo stared at the eroded white bones and silently backed away.
Had that thing just moved?
He watched the skeleton for a long time, but it remained sprawled on the floor without the slightest change.
Maybe it had just been the current?
After thinking for a moment, Nangong Guo kicked his legs and ventured deeper into the wreck.
The long years of pressure from working undercover had forced the adventurous side of Nangong Guo deep into his heart.
Now, that adventurous spirit had been fully reignited.
He didn’t even notice that his once-indifferent eyes were now gleaming with excitement.
Guided by his searchlight, Nangong Guo gradually made his way deeper into the ship.
At the very end, he found a sealed door. Judging by its appearance, it was made from some kind of steel.
He pulled hard twice, but the door didn’t budge in the slightest.
Nangong Guo looked back at the restaurant behind him, and his scalp began to prickle.
Damn it!
He had to feel around skeletons for a key?
Nangong Guo floated motionless in the water for a long while before finally making up his mind.
The instant his palm touched a skeleton, its icy chill made him shudder.
He felt his way over the skeletons one after another and soon found a ring of keys.
The numbers engraved on them had long since blurred beyond recognition.
Keys in hand, Nangong Guo swam toward the gate as fast as he could.
With all his attention fixed on the gate, he failed to notice what was happening behind him.
The moment he took the keys, the skeletons lying on the floor slowly began to move.
Not this one.
Not this one either!
Dammit! Why did one lousy wreck need so many keys?
“Clunk.”
A faint sound reached his ears, and Nangong Guo hurriedly looked back.
Dozens of skeletons were floating in the water, slowly closing in on him.
Nangong Guo.exe had stopped responding!
His brain completely crashed. It took him a full two seconds to come back to his senses.
Son of a banana-peanut-apple peel!
How the hell could these things move?!
Holy shit! Had he transmigrated or something?!
There weren’t many untried keys left. Moving faster than he ever had in his life, Nangong Guo finally found the right one.
The gate had clearly rusted shut. Nangong Guo rammed it twice with all his strength before forcing open a path to safety.
There were thirty keys on the ring. At a normal pace, there was enough time before the skeletons reached him to test twenty-five of them.
Of course, luck was also a kind of strength.
An eighty-three percent chance. If that still wasn’t enough to open the iron gate…
Boss Zhang could only smile and offer his apologies.
The second level appeared to be living quarters, with rooms lined up one after another.
Nangong Guo glanced at the keys in his hand and quickly swam to the first door.
This time, he got lucky. The fifth key opened it.
The room was small, with hardly any clutter inside.
There was a bed, a cabinet, and an iron sword lying on the floor.
The sword was already somewhat rusty, but it would have no trouble smashing skeletons.
Nangong Guo picked it up, then quickly opened the next room.
This room was just as clean, but it contained two batteries.
Only after picking them up did Nangong Guo realize something.
Holy shit! If he hadn’t entered these rooms, wouldn’t he have been a complete idiot?
Was he supposed to fight skeletons in here once his headlamp ran out of power?
No, wait. If he hadn’t entered the rooms, he wouldn’t even have found the iron sword.
Was he supposed to fight underwater with his bare hands?
The mere thought sent a shiver through Nangong Guo.
How had no one beaten this owner to death yet?
This design could seriously get someone killed!
He removed the headlamp.
The small LCD screen showed only five percent battery remaining, deepening the chill in his heart.
After replacing the batteries, Nangong Guo continued to the next room.
He pushed open the door with one hand. This time, it was no longer another clean room.
A woman lay on the floor, a longsword piercing straight through her chest.
The longsword lodged in her chest was already covered in waterweed.
The woman hadn’t been reduced to bones, but the sight of a corpse that had soaked underwater for so long still sent a chill down Nangong Guo’s spine.
A chill down his spine?
Nangong Guo’s pupils contracted, and he whipped around.
A pair of deathly pale hands were reaching toward him.
And their owner looked exactly like the woman lying on the floor.
He immediately swung the sword in his hand down.
The blade passed straight through the woman. Other than the water’s resistance, he felt no sensation of striking anything solid.
