Chapter 146
Chapter 146
After listening carefully to the doctor’s explanation, they finally understood what had happened.
“Don’t worry. It’s made of tofu. It just looks scary!”
When the nurses heard someone finally explain it to them, they all breathed a sigh of relief.
“Thank you!”
“No problem. The normal food is at the service window. Just grab a tray and help yourselves!”
The nurses tore their eyes away from the bizarre table, picked up their trays, and lined up in front of the window.
Chef Li looked at the group of young women with their hair hanging loose and silently shifted his gaze away.
“What would you like?”
“The braised pork, and an order of stir-fried broccoli!”
Chef Li quickly plated a meal and passed the tray through the window.
“Next!”
Zhang Bei and the doctor sat in a corner. “Don’t rush off after work today. I’ll take you all to soak in the hot springs.”
The doctor looked at his boss with suspicion written all over his face.
“Where?”
“Right inside the Amusement Park!”
The suspicion in the doctor’s eyes grew even stronger.
Hot springs inside an amusement park?
That didn’t sound proper at all!
Don’t tell him the hot spring was full of female ghosts or something.
Zhang Bei didn’t bother explaining too much. The hot spring didn’t really count as an attraction; it was just a basic facility for the water park.
But since it had already been built, he might as well let the employees try it out.
By afternoon, Professor Li’s bodyguard arrived at the Amusement Park carrying a combination briefcase.
“Boss Zhang, Professor Li sent me to pick up the documents.”
Sitting in the Toy House, Zhang Bei nodded and pulled out a stack of A4 papers.
“It’s all here!”
Seeing Zhang Bei casually toss the documents onto the counter made the bodyguard’s heart nearly leap into his throat.
He knew exactly what that stack of A4 paper represented.
It might look like he had come alone today, but in reality, security had been arranged along the entire route.
This engine represented the development of a new fighter jet. It represented the future of air supremacy!
Zhang Bei didn’t understand that field, but the bodyguard followed Professor Li around every day, so naturally he understood it all too well.
The higher-ups had already formed a special research team to study the new fighter jet.
On the surface, they seemed indifferent toward Zhang Bei, but in reality, he had already entered their line of sight.
They simply hadn’t stepped forward yet because of Professor Li.
Zhang Bei watched the bodyguard leave the Amusement Park, then leaned back in his chair to rest.
Outside the Amusement Park, a car slowly came to a stop.
A burly man stepped out from the driver’s seat.
He stared at the Amusement Park in front of him, his brows tightly furrowed.
“I’m already swamped all day, and now I have to come here and waste time!”
The man’s name was Nangong Zhi, and he belonged to the Narcotics Unit under Director Gu.
This time, he had been forced to come to the Amusement Park and experience its attractions because of the new directive.
Nangong Zhi lit a cigarette and walked into the amusement park.
There were only three attractions anyway. The sooner he finished trying them, the sooner he could return to the unit!
Sitting in the Dollhouse, Zhang Bei sensed a wave of killing intent approaching, and his eyes instantly sharpened.
Danger?
His gaze shifted to the burly man in front of him. After staring for a moment, he leaned back in his chair again.
An unfamiliar face. Not a tourist here for revenge. Then it was fine!
As the Amusement Park drew more and more visitors, Zhang Bei, who valued his life, now had no choice but to guard against hot-tempered guys coming after him for revenge.
Although no one capable of beating him had appeared so far, there was always a chance!
Nangong Zhi didn’t notice Zhang Bei’s gaze. He strode all the way to the Giant Swing.
“How long does this ride last?”
“Ten minutes.”
“Give me one ticket!”
Nangong Zhi quickly scanned the code, paid, and received his ticket.
Nangong Zhi frowned as he looked at the protective suit the staff were putting on him.
“What’s this for?”
“Peace of mind.”
“What?”
“Just think of it as a windbreaker!”
Nangong Zhi did not ask any more questions. He simply found a spot and sat down.
Once the safety belt clicked shut, Nangong Zhi adjusted himself into a more comfortable position.
The young man beside him glanced at the muscles straining against his clothes and silently scooted a little farther away.
If this guy got scared later, one swing of his arm might knock his head clean off!
The dangers faced by narcotics officers were far beyond what outsiders could imagine.
Most drug dealers were desperadoes. They knew perfectly well that getting caught meant a death sentence.
Every arrest operation was a fight to the death.
Intelligence could never be one hundred percent accurate. Even information passed on by an undercover agent might turn out to be false.
The long-term pressure had caused Nangong Zhi to fail several psychological evaluations in a row.
So even though the Narcotics Unit was swamped, he had still been sent to the amusement park to carry out this special assignment.
Before long, the Giant Swing slowly started up to the sound of music.
Nangong Zhi narrowed his eyes slightly, enjoying this rare moment of peace.
Time ticked by, and the Giant Swing finally underwent its first change.
Nangong Zhi had not spent all those years as a criminal investigator for nothing. Watching the outer wheel grow larger and larger, he merely tightened his grip on the safety belt a little.
Wasn’t this speed a bit too fast?
The thought had only just appeared in his mind when a crack rang in his ears.
Nangong Zhi’s gaze snapped toward the source of the sound.
Holy crap, it cracked?
Before he could think through the consequences, his entire body shot into the sky with the next burst of acceleration.
The wind whipped the protective suit around him, making it flap loudly.
Years of brushing up against death made Nangong Zhi’s mind race at full speed in that instant.
Jump?
No. From this height, he’d be nothing but meat paste!
Wait. This suit wasn’t meant for collecting the body, was it?
What should he do?
Grab that big wheel on the way down?
No good either. The safety belt was locked tight. He could not move at all!
He came up with several options in quick succession, but without exception, all of them failed.
Nangong Zhi suddenly calmed down. Since he already knew the outcome, he might as well enjoy the last moments he had left.
The only pity was that he had not been able to arrest that major drug lord himself.
As his thoughts drifted, the Giant Swing returned to the track.
Hm?
He was still alive?
The violent emotional whiplash left Nangong Zhi a little dizzy.
No, wait. This speed?
Before Nangong Zhi could breathe a sigh of relief, the Giant Swing accelerated again and shot into the sky.
Facts proved that no matter how much muscle you had, it was useless against the Amusement Park.
Nangong Zhi only lasted three rounds before his eyes rolled back and he passed out.
When the Giant Swing finally stopped running, Professor Wei pushed his little cart to the front. Looking at the cult-like ceremony before him, he was filled with delight.
No wonder. No wonder Old Yao had said he was going to spend the rest of his life living here.
With a scene like this, even he wanted to move straight into the Amusement Park!
After enjoying a few seconds of worship, Professor Wei took Suxiao Jiuxin Wan in one hand and began checking everyone one by one.
When he reached Nangong Zhi, he immediately stopped in his tracks.
So strong. This boy definitely wouldn’t have any trouble finding a partner!
The entire cart of visitors, Nangong Zhi included, was sent into the Morgue. Then Professor Wei turned and headed toward the next attraction.
Lying in the Morgue, Nangong Zhi took only five minutes to wake up.
His eyes swept around the room. Then he silently lowered his head.
Apparently, maybe, probably… he still had to experience two more attractions?
