Chapter 46

Zhang Bei simply smiled and asked Chef Li to prepare a sumptuous dinner.

When evening arrived, Zhang Bei took a deep breath and pulled out the blueprints.

“System, let’s begin.”

During this period, Zhang Bei had saved up over a hundred thousand points of Emotional Value specifically for the new facilities over the next few days.

The first to undergo a transformation was the Carousel, which had been out of service for quite some time.

As black curtains were raised, countless workers entered the site.

Following closely was the main event of this update: the Roller Coaster.

Zhang Bei had spent a full seventy thousand Emotional Value points on this facility alone.

He had even integrated a type of future technology into it.

Looking at his remaining Emotional Value, Zhang Bei sighed quietly.

His original plan had included an update for the Ferris Wheel as well, but the Roller Coaster had consumed too much Emotional Value.

He could only set the Ferris Wheel aside for the time being and save it for the next update.

The Roller Coaster was the largest among the facilities; the black curtains covering it spanned nearly half the Amusement Park.

Zhang Bei watched for a while before driving back home.

The next day, the arrival of the rainy season plunged all of Dingyang City into a somber silence.

Dingyang City was near the coast, and the rainy season was far more intense than one might imagine.

Zhang Bei looked at the heavy rain outside his window and couldn’t help but frown.

“System, those kids probably aren’t having an easy time in rain like this, are they?”

Zhang Bei didn’t expect the System to respond. After a moment of contemplation, he headed downstairs.

He braved the downpour and drove to the supermarket. Just as he stepped through the doors, a burly man came into view.

“Oh, Boss?”

This man was also a regular at the Amusement Park, though his courage was even less than Qingqing’s.

Zhang Bei searched his memory and finally recalled the man’s name.

“Ding Ye, I remember you’re on the playtest list, right?”

“I’m definitely on it! I might be a coward, but I’m still going to play!”

Zhang Bei smiled. “I’ll notify you all once the rainy season passes!”

“You got it, Boss!”

After purchasing a large quantity of supplies at the supermarket, Zhang Bei piled them all into the trunk of his car.

Through the heavy rain, Zhang Bei drove steadily toward the outskirts of the city.

Eventually, a dilapidated courtyard came into view.

The rain was falling heavily, creating a vast white haze.

As Zhang Bei drove his car into the courtyard, an elderly man holding an umbrella approached the vehicle.

“Hello, may I ask who you are?”

Zhang Bei smiled. “I’m bringing some things for the children. They’re all in the trunk.”

The old man quickly waved to someone behind him, and two young girls wearing raincoats ran out.

“Thank you so much. The children will certainly be very happy.”

After saying this, the old man helped the girls carry the supplies into the building.

Zhang Bei quietly lit a cigarette and looked around the courtyard.

This was the Dingyang City Shelter, home to children with nowhere else to go.

Zhang Bei had accidentally stumbled upon a video about them last night, which was why he decided to come and take a look.

The shelter received funding from a listed company, so the children’s lives weren’t too bad.

However, it could only be said that their basic needs were met, ensuring the children were fed and clothed.

Most of the supplies Zhang Bei had purchased this time were toys.

He hoped they would bring some joy to these children during this rainy season.

The old man looked at Zhang Bei, who was standing by the car under an umbrella. “Would you like to come inside for a seat?”

Zhang Bei looked at the now-empty trunk and shook his head. “No, it’s fine. As long as the items were delivered.”

The old man quickly stopped him. “May I ask for your name, sir? It would be good for the children to know who sent them these gifts.”
Zhang Bei waved his hand and left his phone number with the old man. “If you need anything, just give me a call.”

With that, he started the car and headed home.

Zhang Bei didn’t consider himself a saint; he simply felt a pang of compassion for these children. Compared to the ten years of maternal love and twenty years of paternal love he had enjoyed, these children might never see their biological parents in their entire lives.

Returning home, Zhang Bei felt a weight lift from his mind. He respectfully lit incense for his parents and then began scrolling through his WeChat messages.

The Amusement Park had been so busy lately that he hadn’t had time to reply to many things.

First was the Designer Competition. He had secured a stable first place, and the prize money would be deposited into his bank account next month.

Next was the International Court case, which was scheduled to begin tomorrow. This matter had garnered significant attention and would even be live-streamed.

Finally, there were some minor administrative tasks. A bank representative had been found; he needed to set up payroll cards for his employees and find an agency to handle the salary disbursement procedures.

After organizing his tasks one by one, Zhang Bei tossed his phone aside and started up a game.

The next day arrived. At 3:00 PM sharp, Zhang Bei clicked on a website and waited quietly.

Meanwhile, Heizi was busy comforting You Bai.

“Don’t worry. We have a legal team of over a hundred lawyers, plus evidence from the United Nations. There won’t be any problems.”

You Bai nodded and sat quietly in her chair. Soon, a man in a suit walked in.

“Let’s go. It’s time to appear in court.”

You Bai took a deep breath. “Thank you for everything!”

On Zhang Bei’s end, the screen he had been watching finally flickered to life. The first thing to appear was a blonde, blue-eyed judge.

“Will the plaintiff please present their testimony?”

A member of the legal team stood up immediately and began stating the facts of the case and the demands for compensation. It took a full five minutes to finish the testimony, which was delivered entirely in English.

The judge looked a bit weary from listening and gave a light cough. “Defendant, do you have any objections to the plaintiff’s testimony?”

Sitting in the defendant’s area were two men who shared a seventy percent facial resemblance. One was in his forties with hair that was already turning white. The other looked to be about twenty years old, his face currently pale.

“I knew absolutely nothing about this. Everything was done by Mr. Jin Zicheng himself.”

The judge maintained a serious expression, though he couldn’t help but complain inwardly. *He’s your biological uncle, and you’re selling him out that fast?*

Indeed, aside from their roles as referee and contestant, the two were blood relatives. However, the investigation into this matter had been very thorough. With official intervention, it had only taken a week to find decisive evidence.

Neither of them likely knew that before the competition, all of the referee’s phone data had been backed up. Every single call was recorded and stored by the telecommunications company. These files were not deleted until the start of the next competition cycle.

With the evidence in hand and the formidable presence of over a hundred renowned lawyers on the legal team, the trial proceeded without any surprises.

Referee Jin Zicheng and his nephew were ordered to pay You Bai five hundred thousand US dollars in compensation. Furthermore, they were required to return the gold medal to You Bai.

But it didn’t end there. Thanks to the vigorous arguments of their lawyers, the defendants were also sentenced to ten years of free meals-prison time. Although they weren’t sent to the Island Prison as hoped, it was still a relatively perfect conclusion.

You Bai sat in her chair, clutching the gold medal in her hands. She was still in a bit of a daze.
