Chapter 240
Chapter 240
But Zhang ‘Inhuman’ Bei never gave tourists a chance to make it through a challenge comfortably.
Just as Ping Xinyu passed the coffin, its lid finally gave way.
A pair of greenish-black hands reached out from inside.
Two bugs crawled across the pitch-black fingernails.
The horrifying sight sent Ping Xinyu’s soul flying out of her body again, just moments after it had finally returned.
“It really came out!”
Ping Xinyu nearly burst into tears. She floored the accelerator again and shot forward.
Countless demons, ghosts, and monsters awaited her along the way.
Screaming at the top of her lungs, Ping Xinyu raced through the underground passage in her Bumper Car.
Zombies, a female ghost, and ghost dolls chased relentlessly behind her.
After three whole minutes of fleeing for her life, Ping Xinyu found a bloody, mangled face looming before her. Her eyes rolled back, and she finally fainted.
For her, that was probably a good thing. At least she wouldn’t have to suffer any longer.
Five minutes later, the doctor pushed a cart into the Morgue.
After unloading another cartful of tourists, his gaze immediately locked onto a familiar figure.
Hmm?
A repeat customer?
The doctor stared at the unconscious Ping Xinyu and fell silent for a long time.
He couldn’t understand it!
Why was this girl so determined to make herself suffer?
Going through it once wasn’t enough? She just had to do it again?
Had she found money in her dreams? Was that why she was so eager to go back?
The doctor pondered the matter for ages but ultimately failed to find an explanation. Full of questions, he pushed the cart away.
He would have to ask her properly the next time he came by.
Dingyang City was already short on doctors. They had finally gotten an anesthesiologist, so she had better not be developing psychological problems.
The Sun was directly overhead, and the lunch break was fast approaching.
Ping Xinyu sat on a wooden bed in the Morgue and let out a long sigh as she watched the tourists fearlessly throw themselves into danger.
It was a perfectly good Bumper Car ride. Why did it have to be horror-themed?
This amusement park was enormous, yet she couldn’t find a single attraction where she could relax.
She looked around and soon spotted a laid-back figure.
“Hello. Can I ask which attractions in this amusement park aren’t scary?”
Hearing the voice beside him, Zhang Bei immediately looked up.
“You could try Another Life over there.”
“There aren’t any ghosts, are there?”
“There’s a 1999 option. That one doesn’t have ghosts, and it isn’t scary.”
Ping Xinyu thanked Zhang Bei, then headed toward the Another Life attraction.
Sitting nearby, Chi Fu gave him a complicated look.
“Aren’t you worried someone will beat you up for tricking people like that?”
“No. I was telling the truth.”
Chi Fu paused. There really didn’t seem to be anything wrong with that statement.
Everything Zhang Bei had said was true from beginning to end!
Zhang Bei glanced toward the countless “loving” glares coming from the Morgue.
“It’s almost lunchtime. Let’s go to the Cafeteria.”
“Okay!”
The two of them packed up the four-piece set and headed toward the Cafeteria.
Meanwhile, in a corner of the amusement park, a war without gunfire was unfolding.
Cao Jia sat on a bench with a thick stack of documents in his hands.
Little Cao hunched his shoulders, ready to flee at a moment’s notice.
“Seventy-five percent of Huayu Education’s shares? You’ve really outdone yourself, kid!”
Little Cao swallowed hard and glanced at his smartwatch.
“Dad, let me talk my way out of this!”
“Go on, then. What else don’t I know about?”
Cold sweat broke out across Little Cao’s forehead.
“Publishing materials?”
“Hm?”
The moment Little Cao saw the teasing smile on Old Cao’s face, he understood.
This old fox definitely knew everything. He had come today just to pump him for information!
And so, the two foxes-one old and one young-began cautiously probing each other.
Old Cao was trying to uncover the details he still didn’t know.
Little Cao was testing exactly how much Old Cao had already found out.
A full five minutes passed before the smartwatch on Little Cao’s wrist suddenly lit up.
At last, a grin spread across his face.
“Dad, I never knew you had such an impressive nickname!”
“Hm?”
“One of the Ten Great Detectives-Uncanny Detective Cao?”
Cao Jia leaped straight out of his chair. “Holy shit! Where did you find that out?”
“Mom doesn’t know about it, does she?”
“What are you planning, you little brat?”
Little Cao pointed at the documents in Old Cao’s hand. “We keep each other’s secrets!”
Old Cao gritted his teeth. “You little brat!”
“Should I call Mom, then?”
“Don’t! Fine, I agree!”
Old Cao took a deep breath. “You little brat, your mother can never find out about this!”
“Pleasure doing business with you!”
Old Cao sighed. “You win!”
Watching his father head toward the amusement park exit, Little Cao finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Thank goodness he had prepared plenty of contingency plans.
One of them had been investigating his own father.
Fortunately, he had made it through this crisis without incident. More importantly, his greatest secret still hadn’t been discovered!
After Old Cao disappeared from sight, Little Cao silently headed toward the Human Cannon.
If he wanted to carry out his grand plan, he had to keep building up his funds!
Before long, it was time for lunch break.
The doctor led Ping Xinyu into the Cafeteria.
After studying her gloomy expression and hesitating for a long moment, he asked, “What’s wrong?”
Ping Xinyu’s eyes were filled with sorrow.
“Why did the veteran and that young woman have to save me? I’m so useless!”
The doctor fell silent for a long while. “Did you play 1999?”
Ping Xinyu nodded, then let out a long sigh.
“Never mind. What’s for lunch?”
The doctor looked at the hot pot ingredients already laid out on the table and hesitated.
Would I still have time to take her somewhere else to eat?
Before long, Chef Li set a covered human head on the table.
The Amusement Park’s hospitality was beyond your wildest imagination!
The doctor fell completely silent.
This girl… probably wouldn’t lose her mind. Maybe. Right?
Still immersed in her grief, Ping Xinyu lifted the lid without thinking.
Beneath it sat a vaguely familiar human head.
Ping Xinyu took several deep breaths in a row to calm herself.
“Do you normally eat this stuff?”
The doctor carefully considered the question.
It seemed that ever since their boss had come up with Braised Human Hand, not a single meal at the Cafeteria had gone by without something like this.
After all this time, they had apparently gotten used to it.
“Not every day, exactly, but it tastes pretty good.”
Ping Xinyu gave him a complicated look. “Are you sure?”
The doctor nodded. “It’s made of tofu. Don’t worry!”
Ping Xinyu stared at the human head in bewilderment for a long while.
“Doesn’t this put you under a lot of mental strain?”
The doctor thought back carefully and realized that he genuinely hadn’t felt much psychological stress in quite some time.
The reason was simple. That shameless boss of theirs was always dragging the employees off to try new attractions whenever he had nothing better to do.
Forget psychological stress-even a full-blown mental illness would be cured at this rate!
“Let’s eat. You can tell me about your experience studying abroad while we’re at it.”
