Chapter 174
Chapter 174
It was almost time for the lunch break.
Chef Li was already in the kitchen preparing lunch, though the two little ones needed separate meals.
After all, adults and children had very different stomachs and tolerances.
Meanwhile, Zhang Bei felt as if he’d kicked a hornet’s nest full of doctors.
Before his very eyes, more than a hundred white coats charged toward him with their eyes glowing green.
Leading the charge was none other than Xu Kuan, the “reluctant regular”!
Zhang Bei had no idea what was going on, but his body reacted in a split second.
His figure flashed through the crowd like a wolf among sheep.
One white coat after another was sent sprawling to the ground.
Ten whole minutes later, more than a hundred white coats lay helplessly staring up at the sky.
Zhang Bei stood off to the side, panting hard, his arms aching.
It would take a while to slaughter a hundred pigs, let alone take down a hundred people!
When Doctor Wang arrived and saw the scene, he froze in bewilderment.
What had happened?
What had the boss gone and done this time?
Weren’t these doctors here to attend my lecture?
Xu Kuan rubbed his stomach as he climbed to his feet, fixing Doctor Wang with an aggrieved glare.
I might not be able to beat the boss, but you think I can’t beat you?
“I found Doctor Wang!”
At that shout, every white coat on the ground scrambled to their feet as fast as they could.
Miserable screams soon echoed throughout the entire Amusement Park.
Zhang Bei silently backed away a couple of steps.
Had he misunderstood the situation?
They weren’t here for revenge?
Uhhh…
Time to go. He was out of there!
After spending more than ten minutes getting pummeled into the ground, Doctor Wang finally climbed to his feet with a resentful look in his eyes.
The boss was the one who beat you up, and the department head was the one who organized this training session. So why does all the trouble land on me?
“Doctor Wang, when does the lecture start?”
Doctor Wang heaved a long sigh. “Come with me.”
The cause of all this wasn’t particularly complicated. It had begun with a paper.
The Effects of Stress Release on Changes in the Human Body.
The amusement park received countless visitors, and every one of them had become Doctor Wang’s lab rat.
After a period of observation, backed by precise data, the paper was published and immediately featured on the homepage of The Lancet.
As the paper’s first author, Wang Qingshan became an overnight sensation in the medical community.
The paper’s significance wasn’t that it demonstrated some extraordinary medical technique.
Instead, it proposed an entirely new approach: people in a state of suboptimal health could improve their condition by regulating their emotions!
That was how this lecture had come about. An opportunity to speak directly with the first author naturally had to be offered to their own people first.
Doctor Wang looked at the white coats following behind him and sighed.
He had no idea how simply doing his everyday job had somehow turned him into a famous doctor.
Soon, it was time for lunch.
Doctor Wang took a sip of tea. “We’ll stop here. Does anyone have any other questions?”
“Doctor Wang, you used to work in emergency medicine. What compelled you to change careers and enter academic research?”
“Work. Next question!”
“In your paper, you mentioned that stress release occurs in three stages. During which stage are the changes most pronounced?”
“The third stage-mental clarity!”
Doctor Wang answered their questions at breakneck speed.
There was nothing unusual about lunch today. There were simply too many visitors, so none of the hotpot or Braised Human Hand had been left over.
Hiding in a corner, Zhang Bei sighed to himself in disappointment.
After a hearty lunch, the white coats departed by coach bus, while Doctor Wang collapsed into a chair.
He was never giving another lecture if he could help it. If there had to be a next time, he would get Professor Yao to take the stage instead.
Still, once the white coats had left, the entire Cafeteria finally fell quiet.
The employees rushed outside as soon as they finished lunch.
No need to ask why. Dama and Xiaoshuang were still off playing with You Bai.
Those two porcelain dolls had completely robbed the employees of their senses.
Zhang Bei, however, rubbed his chin thoughtfully and made a call.
He had already stirred up an entire nest of doctors today. A few more wouldn’t hurt!
Less than half an hour after he placed the call, a vehicle bearing the Third Hospital logo pulled up outside the Amusement Park.
The man leading the group was middle-aged, with a slightly receding hairline.
Zhang Bei eagerly went to greet him.
“Hello, are you Doctor Fu?”
“Yes. You must be Boss Zhang?”
“Sorry to trouble you with this!”
“It’s no trouble. Let’s get started!”
Smiling, Zhang Bei walked over to his employees.
“Stop playing and come get checked out!”
The employees playing with the two porcelain dolls all looked up.
Li Yang’s gaze instantly locked onto the logo on the white coats.
Huh?
Third Hospital?
Holy crap! Was the boss planning to send them all to the Psychiatric Hospital?
Zhang Bei swept his gaze around the group. “Li Yang, you’re first!”
Li Yang’s eyes widened.
He knew it! The boss really held a grudge!
How long had it been? He still hadn’t forgotten what happened last time!
Zhang Bei led Doctor Fu and Li Yang to the Monitoring Room.
It was quiet there, making it a good place for both conversation and testing.
Doctor Fu smiled at Li Yang, who was already breaking out in a cold sweat. “Don’t be nervous. We’re just going to have a chat.”
Zhang Bei sat off to one side and listened to their conversation with great interest.
“Do you find working here tiring?”
“Not at all. I’m pretty happy here!”
“Are you satisfied with the food?”
“Very satisfied. Chef Li is an amazing cook!”
From the moment the conversation began, the smile never left Zhang Bei’s face.
It had been so many years!
Yet psychiatrists still used the same handful of conversational tricks over and over again.
Next, he would probably ask what Li Yang liked to eat most.
“Is there any particular food you usually enjoy?”
Doctor Fu’s tone was soft and gentle, and Li Yang gradually lowered his guard without even realizing it.
“Human Head Hotpot, Braised Human Hand, and soft-fried pork tenderloin!”
A trace of wariness flashed through Doctor Fu’s eyes when he heard the names of those dishes.
Zhang Bei watched everything unfold with a beaming smile.
They had entered phase two: slipping the real questions into the conversation!
As the conversation continued, Li Yang unwittingly revealed quite a lot.
That included the fact that his favorite pastime was listening to visitors scream.
Doctor Fu maintained a warm smile until the conversation was over.
“All right, that’s it. There’s nothing to worry about. You can head out.”
Li Yang nodded and left the room, visibly relieved.
The instant the door closed behind him, Doctor Fu’s expression turned grave.
“Boss Zhang, there’s something abnormal about this young man. I suspect he has pica!”
Zhang Bei rubbed his chin. “Let’s not rush to conclusions. We can discuss it after everyone has been examined.”
Once all the employees had undergone an examination, Zhang Bei received a result he was quite satisfied with.
Aside from Li Yang’s suspected pica, everyone else was perfectly normal!
Doctor Fu still seemed worried. “This young man’s pica is dangerous. It could easily develop into antisocial personality disorder. I recommend admitting him for observation!”
Zhang Bei rubbed his chin again. “Write up the diagnosis for now. I’ll contact his parents.”
“Then I’ll leave that to you, Boss Zhang!”
After escorting Doctor Fu out of the Amusement Park, Zhang Bei looked at the written diagnosis in his hand and nearly burst out laughing.
Pica?
No one knew better than him where Human Head Hotpot and Braised Human Hand had come from!
Still, Zhang Bei had no intention of letting this diagnosis go to waste. There were a few things he happened to need it to test.
