Chapter 300
Chapter 300
His life had been saved, but one leg was ruined.
Now, after graduating from university, he had joined Blue Sky Rescue as a drone operator.
Blue Sky Rescue had brought hope into his life. He wanted to bring that hope to others.
Xiao Hai entered Space Roam with several teammates.
“Wow. Looks seriously high-tech!”
“It does. Wonder what it’ll feel like once it starts.”
They chatted, sharing amusing stories from rescue work.
Suddenly, a mechanical voice sounded, and a platform carrying glasses slowly rose.
“Oh, extra equipment too?”
Still smiling, Xiao Hai picked up a pair and put them on.
The others quickly followed his example.
Soon, they felt their bodies floating in weightlessness.
Their conversation stopped instantly.
Before them appeared an enormous fireball and a slightly smaller Moon.
Space. Mysterious and beautiful.
The captain’s initial shock eased a little, and he turned his head.
A pale blue Earth entered his view.
He didn’t know what words could describe his feelings.
Never before had he felt so small.
Against this vast universe, humanity was a grain of dust.
While he remained lost in awe, Xiao Hai had somehow grabbed the rope behind him.
“H-help! I’m scared of heights!”
Trembling, Xiao Hai tried to move closer to the captain.
He was a technician. Operating a drone didn’t require him to climb anywhere himself.
He had never expected that little problem to trap him in such a desperate situation today.
“It’s not real space. What the hell are you scared of?”
The captain rolled his eyes and twisted, drifting farther away.
At his voice, Xiao Hai looked fearfully down into the boundless universe beneath him.
His hand instinctively drew back.
Remember, that hand still held the captain’s rope.
A delightful turn of events followed. Before the captain could react, an enormous thrust struck him.
An immense field of meteoroids lay ahead. Against the scale of the universe, they moved slowly.
For the captain, however, impact was only an instant away.
He twisted, trying to avoid the enormous rock rushing toward him.
Unfortunately, without an external force, maneuvering in weightlessness wasn’t so simple.
“Xiao Hai, you bleeping bleep! I bleep! Bleep, bleep!”
That miserable cry silenced the three drifting ahead.
“Xiao Hai, maybe take a work trip and hide out for a few days?”
“I don’t think you’ll survive getting back to base.”
Already pale from his fear of heights, Xiao Hai now looked terrified.
What had he done?
He didn’t know anything!
“Is it too late to run?”
His trembling voice perfectly expressed his fear.
“What do you think?”
The captain’s voice sounded beside him: weak, furious, and edged with an unmistakable desire to kill him.
“No, Captain, let me make excuses!”
“Captain, Xiao Hai didn’t mean it. Let it go.”
“Yeah, Captain. Let it go!”
The captain’s face twisted. “Do you have any idea what I just went through? Any idea?”
His miserable roar made the two teammates behind him lower their heads.
“Sorry, Captain!”
They tugged the rope. Less than a minute after returning, the captain shot forward again.
Xiao Hai watched from the side, stunned.
“You…”
“Xiao Hai, you’re a technician. You don’t understand us.”
Technicians didn’t have to train. They spent most of their time coding and writing programs.
The rescue workers were different. They weren’t casual workers; they drew salaries.
Which meant they spent most of their days under the captain’s training regime.
A five-kilometer cross-country run?
Child’s play!
Excavating rubble, emergency evacuation, sprinting three kilometers with someone on their backs.
Wasn’t that all routine?
Now that the opportunity had arisen, how could they let their captain off?
Ten full minutes of torment followed. Even after the captain shouted himself hoarse, he couldn’t stop the three from enjoying themselves.
Joy is fleeting. Pain is eternal. – Xu Paris
As Space Roam ended, they had to consider how to stay alive.
The captain simply hadn’t recovered yet. Once he did, wouldn’t he carve out their kidneys?
After a brief discussion, Xiao Hai offered a suggestion.
“Why don’t we tie him up first and make him promise not to take revenge?”
“Good!”
“Who knows knots? We can’t let him wriggle free.”
Xiao Hai was silent for a moment. “I’ve seen how to do it. I just don’t know whether it’ll work.”
“Then you do it!”
Professor Yao yawned as he opened the doors one by one.
Of all the attractions built at the Amusement Park, this one caused the fewest fainting spells.
He opened the final door and fell silent at the scene inside.
“Um… am I interrupting?”
One could hardly blame a man of his age for asking.
The scene was simply too much for an old fellow to take in.
Three young men had tied up a middle-aged man.
Where had the rope come from?
That involved the captain’s belt and shoelaces.
Without his belt, his trousers were nearly falling off. His blank eyes had lost all hope in life.
Worst of all, wherever they had learned their technique, the knots looked exactly like the sort discussed on certain discreet forums.
Xiao Hai took in their situation and immediately blushed.
“I didn’t! It wasn’t me! They did everything!”
Professor Yao was silent for a moment. “There are cameras here. Mind how this looks.”
With that, he shook his head and walked out.
Morals were declining. People weren’t what they used to be!
Young people these days took things too far!
The group stood there, their toes nearly digging a three-bedroom apartment into the floor from sheer embarrassment.
It really wasn’t like that!
Professor Yao’s interruption had also brought the captain back to his senses.
Hm?
Why couldn’t he move?
Puzzled, he looked down.
“I bleeping bleep! You bleeping bleep!”
“Keep it down. Do you want to be untied or not?”
“What are you going to do?”
Panic suddenly seized the captain. He nearly cried at his slipping trousers.
“No! You can’t!”
Xiao Hai took out his phone and started recording. “Captain, just accept your fate!”
“Don’t! No!”
Not even earthquakes and floods had frightened him like this.
An earthquake could do no worse than kill him. But now?
Three burly men and a phone already recording.
If this got out, he might not have the courage to go on living.
