Chapter 272
Chapter 272
The lion chased Qingqing farther and farther away.
Li Yang and You Bai successfully reunited.
You Bai examined Li Yang carefully. “You’re actually still alive?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?”
You Bai paused. “Just a little surprised.”
Li Yang glanced in the direction Qingqing had vanished, his tone that of an aggrieved spouse.
“Why did you abandon me?”
“Talk normally!”
“Why did you two leave me behind and run off?”
Li Yang’s expression was solemn. He was determined to get an answer.
“After spending this long with Boss Zhang, is it strange that we abandoned you?”
You Bai’s concise reply cut to the heart of the matter.
Everyone had their own answer to what kind of person Boss Zhang was.
After following him for so long, whose heart hadn’t turned black?
Of the hundred people who had entered Zootopia, how many wouldn’t abandon a teammate?
Li Yang sighed and took out the Pass Card.
“I found this. Now we just need to reach the exit safely.”
You Bai’s eyes immediately lit up. “Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go!”
Li Yang glanced once more in the direction Qingqing had disappeared and silently felt guilty for a fraction of a second.
“Let’s go!”
Teammates – weren’t they there to be sold out?
While thrilling escapes unfolded in the primeval forest, Zhang Bei welcomed guests of his own by the sea.
Chi Fu approached with the two little ones.
“You certainly know how to enjoy yourself.”
Zhang Bei casually handed him a plate of skewers.
“Isn’t enjoying yourself the point of making money?”
“True enough.”
Chi Fu took the skewers and sat down with the elder sister in his arms.
The younger sister held out her arms to Zhang Bei on her own.
Boss Zhang, with his selective memory, had forgotten the little girl’s name again.
After a long think, he reached a conclusion.
Kids. Call them whatever!
And so, this time, Boss Zhang decided to call her Little Pickled Cabbage!
As for the elder sister, naturally, she was Big Pickled Cabbage!
In Boss Zhang’s arms, Little Pickled Cabbage blinked her big, sparkling eyes.
“Big brother, I want another story!”
“Another one like Little Red Riding Hood?”
“Yes!”
Last time she went to pick her sister up from school, Little Pickled Cabbage had made many friends with the Little Red Riding Hood story.
Taro climbing into Grandma’s bed was an image she couldn’t get out of her head.
Zhang Bei thought for a moment and settled on the title of today’s story.
“How about I tell you The Adventures of Grandpa Big Ears?”
“Okay!”
Chi Fu swallowed a mouthful of lamb. His lips moved, but in the end, no sound came out.
There was so much to criticize about that title that he didn’t know where to begin.
Zhang Bei began in an eerie tone.
“A long, long time ago, in a great mountain, there lived a grandpa with very big ears…”
The story completely captivated the two little ones. Even Chi Fu was no exception.
The scene looked warm and harmonious.
Meanwhile, in the primeval forest, a team was cautiously approaching danger.
There were five of them, led by No. 11, the winner of Werewolf.
That young man who was luck incarnate!
His teammates were naturally all people from that same Werewolf game.
The most eye-catching among them was the boy with adolescent delusions of grandeur.
Chuunibyou wore camouflage and a resolute expression.
Beside him was Kong Hanchi, who had once done the sowing.
“Say, don’t you get tired?”
Chuunibyou straightened his back. “Heroes never tire!”
No. 11 slapped his forehead. “Brother Kong, just leave him alone. Think of him as our scout.”
Kong Hanchi looked at Chuunibyou sweeping a wooden stick back and forth and silently took two steps back.
Forget it. He and this fellow weren’t creatures from the same dimension. Communication was all but impossible.
The English teacher behind them sighed too.
With their lucky star leading the way, they truly hadn’t encountered any danger.
They had even preserved a fair amount of stamina.
Since entering, No. 11 had found wild grapes, bananas, and apples one after another.
They might not have tasted very sweet, but the group certainly hadn’t lacked food.
In reality, Zhang Bei had placed a creature near every food source that could replenish stamina.
Along their entire route, earlier visitors had intentionally or unintentionally lured those creatures away.
In circumstances like these, one had to praise the power of outrageous luck. It really let a person do whatever they pleased!
Their good fortune ended here, however.
Scouting ahead, Chuunibyou stopped and even turned around.
“Flee! I’ll stay and cover the retreat!”
The others looked at him in utter puzzlement.
Kong Hanchi scanned their surroundings warily. “What’s wrong?”
Chuunibyou drew a deep breath. “I saw ants.”
“They’re just ants. What’s so – so – what?”
The English teacher had a very simple reason for stuttering: she had also seen the ants Chuunibyou meant.
As everyone knew, ants were social creatures.
One or two could be stepped on. But thousands upon thousands?
No creature could afford to provoke them!
And before the group were what were known as the world’s largest ants: bull ants!
These ants could reach four centimeters in length. The soldiers could even grow to a full six!
Chuunibyou had been clearing the way with his stick to guard against snakes in the grass.
By the time he spotted the ants, it was too late.
The dense swarm of workers and soldiers had already decided they were food.
Seeing a red tide of ants flood across the ground, Chuunibyou grew frantic.
“Stop standing there! Run!”
As he spoke, he kept driving them back with the stick to buy time for the others.
Kong Hanchi grabbed him. “Enough talk! If we run, we run together!”
The words had barely left his mouth before Chuunibyou sprinted away.
“Then what are we waiting for? Hurry!”
The others snapped out of their daze and hurried after him.
With his incredible luck, No. 11 easily led them away from the ants.
What he didn’t notice was that the ants hadn’t lost their prey. Upon reaching a certain tree, they had quietly withdrawn.
In the animal world, only one thing could make a creature abandon prey already within its grasp.
The prey had encountered something more powerful than the pursuer.
No. 11 leaned against a tree, panting.
“From here… I’ll… I’ll lead.”
Chuunibyou straightened his clothes and picked up another stick.
“A hero willingly yields his place to others.”
Kong Hanchi rubbed the space between his brows. “Let me translate. He means he’ll cover the rear.”
Who knew how many declarations like that he had heard to understand the meaning so instantly?
But before the group could rest enough, a cloud of dust rose over the ground in the distance.
Li Yang, king of troublemakers, came hurtling along with You Bai.
Just two minutes earlier, Li Yang had spotted a tree laden with jackfruit.
As the person most inclined to cause trouble, he had picked one without a second thought.
Before You Bai could even warn him, danger had swept over them.
