Chapter 48

Doctor Lan briefed Yun Youyou on the situation in his area as they walked.

“The atmosphere on our side is quite different from yours. It’s… well, savage. You might regret coming to visit my Instance.”

Savage?

Yun Youyou didn’t think it could be that bad.

At most, it would be a bit more terrifying. How savage could it really be?

She didn’t take Doctor Lan’s words to heart.

“Don’t worry, I’m quite adaptable. I doubt I’ll regret it.”

Doctor Lan gave her a meaningful look.

“That’s not a certainty.”

Yun Youyou blinked.

Surely… it wouldn’t be that bad?

Doctor Lan led Yun Youyou through a series of twists and turns until they reached the end of a corridor.

He pushed open a door on the right.

It appeared to be a storage room, cluttered with junk and smelling of long-settled dust and mildew.

Doctor Lan gripped the handle of a cabinet, but he didn’t open it immediately.

After hesitating for a moment, he rummaged through the pile of junk nearby and pulled out a helmet and a bulletproof vest that looked several years old.

Yun Youyou took the vest and helmet.

Even if she racked her brain, she couldn’t fathom why there would be a bulletproof vest here.

“For safety’s sake, you should put this on. It might not do much, but at least it’s some peace of mind.”

Yun Youyou silently took it and slipped it over her head.

She was starting to get curious about exactly what kind of chaotic world lay within the Instance on the other side.

“Are you ready?”

Doctor Lan gripped the handle and looked back at Yun Youyou.

Yun Youyou nodded solemnly.

The next second, the cabinet door was flung open.

*BOOM!*

*Thud! Thud! Thud!*

A massive roar accompanied by a blinding light made Yun Youyou feel as if her ears and eyes were about to explode.

Is this hell?

Before she could react, another bomb was thrown her way.

If Yun Youyou hadn’t ducked behind a wall just in time, she feared she would have become a ghost for the second time.

The flash from the explosion was so bright that she could only squint. Waves of heat surged toward her, so scorching that it felt like her skin would crack.

Yun Youyou now realized that Doctor Lan’s insistence on the helmet and bulletproof vest was absolutely the right call.

A relentless barrage of gunfire and explosions erupted all around them.

Doctor Lan took a quick look at the battle from a distance, then leaned down and whispered into Yun Youyou’s ear, “Join the Player camp directly. Our side isn’t doing too well right now; you’ll have an easier time if you stay with the Players.”

This was the first time Doctor Lan had ever been so close to her.

Yun Youyou could even smell the faint scent of disinfectant on him.

As soon as he finished speaking, a Player squad appeared not far away.

Doctor Lan gave Yun Youyou a gentle push. She stumbled forward, and her helmet fell off in the process.

“There’s someone here!”

“Look! Everyone, look! There’s another person over here!”

The squad’s eyes were filled with suspicion and wariness as they saw Yun Youyou. They immediately ran over and surrounded her.

Yun Youyou looked back.

Doctor Lan, who had been right behind her a moment ago, was gone.

The two people at the front exchanged hushed words.

“Why would there be a person here out of the blue?”

“What if she’s a ghost in disguise? It’s happened before. we can’t let our guard down. The ghosts around here seem to have gotten a lot smarter lately.”

The two exchanged a look, their defensiveness intensifying.
“Speak! Where are you from?”

One of the men pointed a gun at Yun Youyou.

Even with the barrel pressed against her forehead, Yun Youyou didn’t so much as blink.

“I came from my mother’s womb.”

The man holding the gun: “…”

“I fucking know you came from your mother’s womb! It’s not like you could have come from your father’s, could you?”

In his anger, the muzzle pressed against Yun Youyou’s forehead trembled slightly.

Yun Youyou glanced at the gun and let out a long sigh. “Fine. To be honest, I am the heir to Planet 003. Due to a betrayal by treacherous subjects, the alien spacecraft I was on was forced to make an emergency landing on Earth, leaving me in this wretched state. Once I return, I shall repay them a hundredfold and reclaim everything that belongs to me! Transfer me fifty bucks, and I’ll tell you my plan for revenge!”

The two men in front: “…”

The entire squad fell silent.

The gun against Yun Youyou’s forehead shook even harder now.

It shook so much one might wonder if the man had Parkinson’s.

Su Gou had never met a woman so capable of talking absolute nonsense.

This woman was truly…

Su Gou’s face remained cold. “I’m giving you one last chance. If you don’t tell the truth, I’m pulling the trigger.”

The people behind him looked at Yun Youyou with pity.

To be able to provoke their Captain to this extent, this woman was truly gifted.

Others might have shown a woman some mercy, but their Captain was never one to go easy on the fairer sex.

One man in the back couldn’t bear to see Yun Youyou meet such a tragic end and urged, “You’d better tell the truth quickly. We really will shoot.”

Yun Youyou put on an expression that said, ‘I’m so scared.’

She took a deep breath. “Fine. Actually, I’m a Terracotta Warrior. I have twenty thousand tons of gold hidden in the Terracotta Warrior Pits. As long as you send me back, I can gift all that gold to you for free.”

“…”

The man who had just been trying to persuade her sighed silently and shook his head. “Just shoot her.”

Su Gou, however, had calmed down significantly.

Since she knew the latest internet scams, she had to be a person-or rather, someone who hadn’t been dead for very long.

He glanced at Yun Youyou’s current attire.

She wore a tattered bulletproof vest over a white dress. Her slender, pale calves were exposed to the air, and her long hair was scattered messily over her shoulders. There was a smudge of dust on her face, which looked particularly striking against her fair, delicate skin, like a pearl covered in dust.

Su Gou gave Yun Youyou a deep look before calling two female teammates forward.

“You two, restrain her. We’re taking her back first.”

Two women stepped forward-one with long hair and one with short. They flanked Yun Youyou, gripping her arms.

Yun Youyou felt like her arms were about to snap. “…You’re making me feel like a criminal.”

“Your feelings are correct,” Su Gou sneered.

The group escorted Yun Youyou back to their temporary base-a basement that was still leaking water.

Without warning, a drop of water fell onto Yun Youyou’s head.

She flinched violently.

The two women holding her were also startled, thinking Yun Youyou was about to go on a killing spree.

They even drew their guns, only for Yun Youyou to complain grumpily, “I just washed my hair yesterday, and now it’s dirty again.”

It was just a casual remark, but she didn’t expect the eyes of the two women beside her to suddenly light up.
