Chapter 122
Chapter 122
For a moment, Yun Youyou was speechless.
She had actually lost to a child who barely came up to her knees.
Kids these days were seriously something else.
“Do you still want to play another thrilling, heart-pounding Game?”
Lu Keke tipped his head back and asked.
Yun Youyou was about ready to get down on her knees and beg him. “No. If we keep playing, the two of us are going to lose our lives.”
Lu Keke wanted to play a little longer, but after hearing Yun Youyou say that, he did not keep pestering her.
“Okay, then.”
Lu Keke drooped listlessly as he followed behind Yun Youyou.
Early the next morning…
Someone knocked on the door to Yun Youyou’s room.
Knock, knock!
Yun Youyou had only finally managed to fall asleep in the early hours of the morning, and now she was right in the deepest part of her sleep.
Silently, she wriggled deeper under the covers, rolled over, and buried her head beneath the quilt.
The person outside kept knocking with dogged persistence, clearly prepared to keep at it forever if the person inside did not open the door.
Lu Keke sat half-upright in bed with hair like a bird’s nest, his plump little bun face still marked with red sleep creases.
He let out a hopeless sigh.
“Sigh… Being a baby is so hard.”
With great difficulty, he pulled on his clothes, shuffled into his little slippers, and went to open the door.
The person outside was getting increasingly impatient, and the knocking grew louder and louder.
Just then, the tightly shut door finally opened a crack.
“Uncle, do you need something?”
Lu Keke poked his little head through the gap and looked up at the visitor with half-lidded eyes.
So much beard.
This uncle had a whole black forest growing on his chin.
The bearded man frowned and looked around in confusion.
“Who? Who’s talking?”
Lu Keke: …
Today, he had finally seen what it meant for someone to have eyes on the top of their head.
This bearded man was practically looking up at the sky. Could he not lower his head and take a look?
Lu Keke said helplessly, “Uncle, is there any chance I’m not in the sky, but down here on the ground?”
The bearded man’s eyes finally flicked downward, and he at last saw the little shorty, Lu Keke.
“Oh, you’re that innkeeper’s son from yesterday, right?”
Lu Keke said, “Thank you for still remembering me, but what could possibly be important enough for you to disturb a child’s sleep? I am currently at a critical stage of growth and development. If I don’t grow tall in the future, can you cut off your legs and graft them onto me?”
The bearded man did not take Lu Keke’s childish words seriously at all.
Lecherously, he tried to stick his head through the gap in the door. “Your mom’s still sleeping, right?”
Unfortunately for him, the place where Yun Youyou slept was blocked by a folding screen. Even if he stretched his neck out like a giraffe, it would be useless.
Lu Keke glared angrily at this rude man.
With a sudden burst of force, he nearly slammed the door shut on the man’s head.
“Uncle, that is not gentlemanly behavior.”
The bearded man rubbed his aching neck.
“What the hell are you doing, you little brat? What’s wrong with me taking a couple of looks? Is there something shameful hidden in there? Enough. Hurry up and tell the innkeeper to get up and make breakfast. I’m starving!”
After saying that, he walked away while cursing under his breath and rubbing his neck, muttering, “That little brat’s got a vicious hand.”
Lu Keke really had not known that running a guesthouse meant providing breakfast too.
He quickly ran to Yun Youyou’s bedside and tugged at the corner of her quilt.
“Stop sleeping. Hurry and get up to make breakfast!”
Yun Youyou shrank even deeper under the covers.
“I’m not eating. You don’t need to make mine!”
Lu Keke: “…I wasn’t asking whether you wanted to eat.”
Counting on Yun Youyou was even less reliable than counting on the kitchen to cook breakfast by itself.
Lu Keke chewed on his finger for a moment, then decided to take matters into his own hands.
He slipped down to the shared kitchen on the first floor.
Dragging over a stool, he stood on it and opened the refrigerator door.
Great. Aside from a few bottles of water, there was nothing inside. The only thing that could even pass as food was a small stack of leftover dumpling wrappers.
Lu Keke hopped down from the stool and pulled open the freezer.
Inside were only some frozen steamed buns.
Lu Keke held the dumpling wrappers in his left hand and a brown sugar steamed bun in his right.
After his little head pondered for a while, he decided to challenge the highly advanced culinary art of making dumplings.
What followed was a flurry of fierce, tiger-like activity.
Lu Keke’s hands-on skills were actually pretty impressive.
In just over ten minutes, he had finished wrapping an entire plate piled high with dumplings.
He dragged the stool over again and started boiling water on the induction cooktop.
As soon as the water boiled, he tossed the dumplings in.
“What’s that smell? It’s actually kind of good?”
Wang Yuanyou was drawn over by the aroma.
When he saw Lu Keke standing on a stool cooking dumplings, his eyes widened on instinct.
The adults were way too irresponsible. How could they let such a little kid cook?
Wang Yuanyou hurried over.
He looked into the pot. One plump dumpling after another had already floated to the surface.
They were done.
Wang Yuanyou swallowed the scolding that had been on the tip of his tongue and couldn’t help picking up a pair of chopsticks.
“I’ll help you taste them first.”
The moment he finished speaking, he popped a dumpling into his mouth.
Lu Keke looked at him expectantly.
The instant he bit through the dumpling wrapper, scalding-hot juice burst out.
Wang Yuanyou was burned speechless.
And when he started chewing, he felt like his entire soul had gone wrong.
Wang Yuanyou’s face stiffened. With a strange expression, he asked, “What kind of filling is in these dumplings?”
There happened to be a few extra brown sugar steamed buns beside them. Lu Keke lifted one up to show him.
“Brown sugar steamed bun filling.”
Wang Yuanyou: “…Who uses steamed buns to fill dumplings?!”
Lu Keke calmly scooped the dumplings out of the pot.
“Just because you’ve never eaten them doesn’t mean they don’t exist in this world.”
At that moment, the bearded man also came down from the second floor.
When he saw the steaming dumplings on the table, his eyes lit up.
“Oh? Breakfast was made pretty fast.”
He sat down impatiently. He didn’t even have time to grab chopsticks before he picked up a dumpling with his fingers and stuffed it into his mouth.
“Pah, pah, pah! What the hell is this? Why does it taste so awful?”
The bearded man had only taken one bite before he spat it out in disgust.
Lu Keke instantly got angry.
He walked up to the bearded man and condemned him with a grave expression. “How can you waste food? That’s very bad behavior!”
The bearded man spat into the bowl of dumplings again.
“I just like wasting food. What are you going to do about it?”
He shot Lu Keke a disdainful look, then stood up from his chair and made to leave.
Lu Keke hugged his leg.
The bearded man kicked Lu Keke directly in the stomach. “Brat, quit bothering me!”
Lu Keke was sent sprawling to the floor.
Wang Yuanyou quickly helped Lu Keke up from the ground. He was getting angry too, and he glared at the bearded man’s back, ready to start cursing.
What kind of piece of trash bullied a child?
But before Wang Yuanyou could say a word, Lu Keke had already lost his temper first.
