Chapter 158
Chapter 158
The battle raged until heaven and earth seemed to go dark.
Yun Youyou managed to sleep through an entire nap, and it still was not over.
Only when the moon sank and the first light of dawn covered the wilderness did the tide finally begin to turn.
Not only did the plant spirits vastly outnumber their opponents, but they also possessed an incredible ability to reproduce.
But the Players could spend money!
Almost everyone had at least some savings.
With their lives on the line, the Players immediately began spending fortunes in the Game Shop, frantically purchasing machine guns, bombs, and anything else they could get their hands on.
No matter how tenacious the plant spirits were, once they had been blown into fragments, all they could do was lie there and quietly die.
Plenty of Players also died at the hands of the plant spirits.
As Yun Youyou surveyed the devastation covering the ground, it was impossible for her not to feel a little sorrow.
She might have been a ghost for a long time, but she still thought like a human.
That said, there was no need for pointless sympathy in the Game. Keeping herself alive in this world was already an achievement.
Yun Youyou’s heart was small. It only had room for one ghost: herself.
Although, when necessary, she could always add an extension.
Su Gou and the others silently cleared the battlefield.
They dug several pits on the spot and placed their fallen companions inside.
Whether those people managed to become Yun Youyou’s coworkers would depend on their own fate.
The Game mercifully gave them some time.
Only after everyone had gathered in small groups to rest did it slowly make its appearance.
[The Plant Instance has ended. All Players, please leave immediately.]
Almost the instant the voice appeared, many Players sighed, submitted their ratings, and rapidly departed.
They were all thinking roughly the same thing: Finally, they could leave this godforsaken place.
Yun Youyou, Shamate, and the others also prepared to go.
Before she left, Su Gou came over to say a few words.
It was nothing special. Just a simple goodbye.
But after saying it, Su Gou still did not leave.
Yun Youyou: ?
Why aren’t you going?
Even I want to leave.
Su Gou looked hesitant, as though there were something difficult to say that he nevertheless had to get out.
Seeing the state he was in, Yun Youyou had no choice but to ask first. “Is there something else?”
Su Gou hesitated a while longer. Every strand of his hair seemed to broadcast his uncertainty, and his ears had quietly turned red.
He glanced at Yun Youyou, then turned his head away.
After several rounds of this, he finally said, “Do you… like me?”
Su Gou’s voice was far too quiet.
Yun Youyou only caught the word “you.” She could not make out a single word after that.
She had no choice but to lean her head closer and ask in confusion, “What did you say?”
Now even Su Gou’s neck turned red.
“I asked… if you like me a little.”
Yun Youyou thought Su Gou might have weak kidneys. His voice was quieter than a mosquito.
She leaned in even closer.
“Say that again?”
That did it. Su Gou turned red from head to toe.
His round puppy-dog eyes glared furiously at Yun Youyou. Aggrieved and irritable, he burst out, “Do you have to keep teasing me like this? I like you! I like you, all right?”
This Female Ghost was awful.
She obviously knew what he meant, yet she insisted on toying with him.
Absolutely hateful. Absolutely terrible!
Yun Youyou had just been saddled with all the blame.
Heaven was her witness: she truly had not heard a thing.
With a voice quieter than a mosquito, no one without supernatural hearing could have caught his words.
The handsome young man stood there confessing with his ears red. Shyness radiated from his entire body, and every furtive glance carried a mix of hope and feigned indifference.
The sight certainly was easy on the eyes. Who did not like a handsome, inexperienced tsundere?
But Yun Youyou had no such thoughts whatsoever.
She was simply terrified.
How had she gotten a confession out of nowhere?
Including their meeting in the Hospital Instance, the human and ghost had only seen each other twice!
This was Yun Youyou’s first time encountering such a situation.
No one had ever taught her at work what an NPC was supposed to do when a Player confessed.
The Game seemed caught up in the gossip too. For once, it did not even hurry the NPCs and Players to leave.
Shamate and Red-haired Trendy Guy, who had been about to go, stopped in their tracks.
With stylish turns, the two ghosts silently settled in behind them to enjoy the show.
A real-life romance between a human and a ghost, and the movie was free!
Yun Youyou remained stunned for a long time before she barely recovered.
She asked in confusion, “Is this some new way of making friends? Is this how people outside ask to be friends now?”
Su Gou thought Yun Youyou was playing dumb.
He glared fiercely at her, but to anyone else, he only looked adorably ferocious, like a big dog aggrievedly throwing a tantrum after asking to play and being rejected.
“Even outside, only boyfriends and girlfriends say that to each other!”
Su Gou practically ground the words through his teeth.
To be honest, his feelings really had come out of nowhere.
Even after talking for so long, Yun Youyou had no idea how things had suddenly ended up like this.
When faced with romantic trouble, Yun Youyou fully embraced her lazy nature and refused to let any problems through the door.
“Sorry. I’m not looking for a relationship right now.”
That answer was completely outside Su Gou’s expectations. He had assumed Yun Youyou liked him a little too.
Otherwise, why had she secretly hidden behind him during the battle?
She had obviously done it because she was worried about him!
If Yun Youyou had known what Su Gou was thinking, she would certainly have said, “Buddy! Have you considered the possibility that you’re reading too much into it?”
After falling victim to one of life’s three great delusions, Su Gou plunged headfirst into the river of love without looking back.
Yun Youyou wanted to toss him a life preserver so he could climb out.
Su Gou, however, punctured it himself, determined to experience drowning firsthand.
They stared at each other for a while.
Su Gou frowned, unable to understand why Yun Youyou had rejected him.
After some thought, he asked, “Are you afraid of a long-distance relationship?”
After all, they could not possibly be matched into the same Instance every time. It was only natural for her to have that concern.
Yun Youyou spoke earnestly. “Buddy, one of us is in the land of the dead, and the other is in the land of the living. This isn’t a long-distance relationship. It’s an inter-realm relationship.”
Even an interspecies romance only crossed species. It did not cross the gates of death.
The Cowherd and Weaver Girl could meet on the Magpie Bridge. The two of them could only meet on Naihe Bridge.
Other couples went out for fancy Western dinners. Their dates would be, “Come on, bottoms up on this cup of Meng Po’s soup!”
Besides, the land of the dead had no marriage registry and no marriage laws.
The rights and obligations between spouses were not clearly defined either.
If they married, dividing their property would become a huge problem.
If they divorced and went to court, would they need a lawyer from the dead or one from the living?
Would the trial require a joint court of yin and yang, with half the judges dead and the other half alive?

Sorry, Sis is the NPC You Can’t Catch Up With
(A completely brainless, silly story)
Yun Youyou opened her eyes and found that she had inexplicably become an NPC in a Horror Game.
