Chapter 199
Chapter 199
Who knew what kind of elite profession this was? Maybe she would be a CEO’s personal bodyguard.
Black sunglasses, a black suit, and an icy expression. Just imagining it felt incredibly cool.
Yun Youyou casually lifted the folded uniform.
The smile on her face instantly froze.
The front looked perfectly ordinary.
Across the back, however, SECURITY was printed in enormous letters.
Yun Youyou: “?”
All the veteran employees giving the lecture had faced the new hires, so Yun Youyou hadn’t noticed the secret on the back of their uniforms.
She took a moment to process the truth, then held up the uniform and questioned the Game.
“This is what you meant by protecting the world?”
The Game gave an evasive reply.
[Well, does it count as protection or not?]
Yun Youyou’s idea of protecting the world: put on an incomparably cool outfit, transform into a super-bodyguard, and kick down one filthy thug after another.
The Game’s idea of protecting the world: work as a security guard who collected parking fees on the side.
The Game even argued self-righteously:
[I made you a security guard for a world-famous Company. What else could you possibly be unhappy about?]
[Just look at the guards at those schools. Two of them put together don’t have one good set of teeth. You should be grateful.]
After thinking it over, Yun Youyou found herself agreeing with this bizarre logic.
Fine. Being a security guard wasn’t so bad. Protecting the peace was an honorable profession!
Once she had made peace with it, Yun Youyou changed into the security uniform.
As long as no one looked at the word on the back, it was actually rather handsome.
It was getting late. Before Yun Youyou had time to admire her heroic appearance, she had to hurry back and meet her teammates.
Six new security guards had been hired this time.
Apart from Yun Youyou, all of them were muscular men over six feet tall.
Judging by those bulging biceps, each one could flatten a whimpering weakling with a single punch.
At the front, the Security Captain blew his whistle.
“Single file! Move it!”
Yun Youyou hurried into formation, her flustered movements tinged with awkwardness.
It was like reliving the nightmare of school military training.
The single-file line quickly took shape.
The Security Captain looked it over, and his already furrowed brow tightened further.
He pointed down the line and counted three or four times.
“One, two, three, four, five…”
“One, two…”
No matter how many times he counted, he only found five people.
The Security Captain finally roared in annoyance.
“Why are we still missing someone? Where did that little brat run off to? I’ll beat him senseless!”
Yun Youyou looked to either side, then quietly spoke from the very back.
“Captain, have you considered that you can’t see me because I’m short, not because I’m missing?”
The Security Captain walked around to the end of the line.
Sure enough, a pitiful, weak, and helpless Yun Youyou stood at the very back.
The muscular men in front of her were like towering mountains, blocking her from view completely.
When the line reached Yun Youyou, its elevation plunged from mountain range to basin.
No wonder the Captain hadn’t found her after counting for so long.
Faced with Yun Youyou’s aggrieved stare, the Security Captain awkwardly cleared his throat, then decided to pretend nothing had happened.
“Ahem… Now that everyone’s here, today will be your first day on the job.”
“This place needs guards twenty-four hours a day. We work in three shifts, and everyone takes turns.”
The Security Captain pointed at Yun Youyou and the dark-faced man in front of her.
“You two will take the first shift in a moment.”
“I’ll watch from the side. Stay sharp while you’re working. When you see an executive, salute and greet them. If anyone tries to sneak inside, throw them out.”
Half an hour later, Yun Youyou and her excellent teammate were standing inside the security booth at the entrance to the office building.
Fortunately, the booth had air-conditioning, and they could sit down whenever things were quiet.
As Yun Youyou stared blankly into space, she thought about how novels really were full of lies.
A protagonist in a novel: becomes a super-bodyguard, protects a beautiful female CEO, then successfully marries into a wealthy family.
Yun Youyou in reality: becomes a miserable security guard whose most frequently repeated line was, “Delivery drivers aren’t allowed inside. Just leave it at the security booth.”
Fortunately, today’s work was very easy.
Yun Youyou began to feel that life still held hope.
Just then, the Security Captain suddenly stood up. He pointed excitedly at a Maybach slowly driving in and said to the two rookie guards, “See that? That’s the president of our Company!”
“President Fu has been away on a business trip for the past few days. He’s finally back today.”
The Security Captain looked as excited as if his own mother had returned.
As the Maybach glided past them, he shouted, “Salute!”
His voice cracked so badly with excitement that Yun Youyou mistook it for a rooster crowing. Her salute came half a beat late.
The man sitting in the back of the Maybach happened to glance at her.
“Go, go! Hurry up and open the door for President Fu!”
The Security Captain pushed Yun Youyou from behind.
“Whenever you see President Fu, remember to be attentive. Then promotions and raises will be yours for the taking.”
Yun Youyou suspected that the Game might still be secretly watching her, so she had to put on a good performance.
All those years of practicing her workplace skills were finally about to pay off.
The next corporate elite would surely be Ms. Yun Youyou, a professional security guard with thirty years of experience.
Go, go! Youyou was the best!
Go, go! Youyou was the strongest!
Wearing her most professional smile, Yun Youyou approached the Maybach.
She gently pulled the door open with her left hand and held her right hand over President Fu’s head. In an extremely professional tone, she said, “Good morning, President Fu.”
After he stepped out, Yun Youyou professionally closed the door behind him.
Sure enough, President Fu gave her a look of appreciation.
Yun Youyou silently applauded her own dedication.
Excellent work!
She was simply the greatest security guard in the world!
Ten seconds passed, and President Fu was still looking at her.
Wasn’t that appreciative gaze lasting a little too long?
Yun Youyou gave the legendary President Fu a questioning look.
The aloof, aristocratic-looking man finally spoke his first words.
“You caught my suit jacket in the door.”
Yun Youyou looked behind him.
A small section of his suit was trapped inside the car door like a little tail.
No wonder President Fu had remained frozen in place, repeatedly casting those “appreciative” looks her way.
Yun Youyou laughed awkwardly, hurriedly freed his jacket from the door, then thoughtfully smoothed out the wrinkles.
Fortunately, President Fu didn’t hold it against her.
Once the trapped corner of his jacket was free, he calmly walked away.
The Game couldn’t resist a mocking laugh.
[This is what you call professional?]
Yun Youyou casually made up an excuse.
“This is actually another workplace survival trick. You make a few harmless mistakes so your boss remembers you and forms an unforgettable impression.”
The Game said:
[Yes, you’re amazing! You somehow managed not to rip the president’s underwear off. Aren’t you impressive?]
[And are you sure you’ve been studying workplace skills, not getting-fired skills?]
