Chapter 198
Chapter 198
The instant Yun Youyou left the Instance, the Game started nagging her.
[Are you a ghost or a Player?]
[You never do any real work. All you do is slack off in Instances all day. Do you still think you’re human?]
Yun Youyou ignored it and calmly opened her Game panel.
She wasn’t listening. It could chant all it wanted.
[Staff Level: Level Six (Ordinary Staff). Experience Points: 600/800]
[I think you’ve gotten far too bold…]
Yun Youyou said, “Have you considered that I might be doing exactly as much work as you’re paying me for?”
The Game didn’t hesitate for even a second.
[Impossible!]
Yun Youyou said, “…If that’s what you think, there’s nothing I can do about it.”
The Game stared at Yun Youyou’s utterly shameless, unruffled slacker act and felt its fists clench.
Damn it! After recruiting for so long, this was the employee it had ended up with!
Yun Youyou pretended not to notice its anger and blinked innocently.
“Do you still need me to recruit new employees?”
The Game sneered.
[Yes! Of course you need to recruit them!]
[But before that, there’s another Instance I need you to enter.]
[Since you love protecting Players so much, this time I’ll have you protect the world.]
Before Yun Youyou could defend herself, the furious Game threw her into an Instance.
As she vanished into the white light, one thought crossed her mind: slacking off was risky business, and employment required caution.
“It’s your first day on the job, so every one of you had better stay sharp! Now that you’re here, I expect you to do the job right!”
“Did you hear me?”
“Especially the one with her eyes closed!”
A deep, booming voice exploded beside Yun Youyou’s ears.
Who was bold enough to fall asleep on their first day of work?
Her long lashes fluttered.
Yun Youyou opened her eyes.
A crowd of men in black uniforms were all glaring at her.
Yun Youyou: “…”
Oh. So she was the bold one.
Once the speaker saw that she had opened her eyes, his dark expression finally eased a little.
“Everyone knows our Company offers excellent benefits. Now, there are a few rules you need to keep in mind…”
Yun Youyou took the opportunity to study her surroundings.
Then she realized she was surrounded by men.
Wasn’t there a little too much testosterone in here?
And why was everyone dressed head to toe in black?
For a moment, Yun Youyou thought she had wandered into a convention for crows. After becoming a Sunflower, was she about to turn into a crow?
The man in black at the front rambled on and on before finally closing his mouth, though he still looked like he had more to say.
“All right. That’ll do for now. Come up and collect one uniform each. Once you’ve changed, you can start work.”
Yun Youyou followed the crowd forward and collected a uniform.
The Game had said her mission this time was to protect the world.
How was she supposed to do that?
Had aliens invaded Earth? Was Yun Youyou going to be a super-scientist who invented some ridiculously powerful weapon?
This place didn’t look like that kind of setting.
Lost in thought, Yun Youyou followed the group ahead.
“Hey, hey! You’re not planning to follow us in, are you?”
The fierce-looking man in front of Yun Youyou spun around and glared at her.
Before she could process the question, she instinctively asked, “Why can’t I go in?”
The man’s ears abruptly turned red, though his voice remained fierce. “Because we’re changing clothes!”
Yun Youyou said, “Oh. I don’t mind.”
The fierce-looking man instantly turned red all the way down his neck.
“Well, I do!”
Before shutting the door, he glared fiercely at her again. “Go to the restroom. You’re not allowed in here!”
“Okay.”
Yun Youyou blinked, looking sweet and obedient.
The man apparently didn’t trust her to behave. He glared at her once more before closing the door.
He even turned the lock several times for good measure.
Yun Youyou shrugged helplessly.
Sure, she was rebellious to the bone, sometimes fatally so.
But still…
Trust between people was getting harder and harder to find these days.
Yun Youyou certainly wasn’t going to put on an unwashed uniform someone had just handed her.
She had originally planned to slip it on over her current clothes right there.
After thinking it over, she decided this was the perfect opportunity to go outside and get a sense of the situation.
Holding her new uniform, Yun Youyou turned and walked out.
Outside was an ordinary office building lobby, clean and tidy, with several elevators along one side.
An enormous Company name hung in the center. Set in bold black type, it occupied the most eye-catching spot in the lobby.
“Fu Group? Looks like this Instance has a little domineering-CEO fiction mixed in.”
Yun Youyou began recalling the classics of domineering-CEO red-eye literature.
As the saying went, a CEO whose eyes never turned red was no true domineering CEO.
And a heroine who never let out milky little burps or farts was no proper heroine.
Yun Youyou figured that if she ever got transported into a novel, she would be a vicious supporting character at best.
As long as the money was right, she didn’t care whether someone was the hero or the heroine. They were all her benefactors.
[Why are you still standing around? Hurry up and change!]
That familiar, demonic voice struck again.
Yun Youyou clutched the uniform to her chest and asked in horror, “Why are you here too?”
Other than her very first time working as an NPC in an Instance, when the Game had graced her with its presence, it usually ignored her.
After all, the Game contained countless Instances and ghosts.
Even if the Game had three heads and six arms, it couldn’t personally watch over every one of them.
The Game snorted.
[In light of your outstanding work performance in the past, I’ve decided to come see for myself just how diligently you work inside Instances.]
The Game placed deliberate emphasis on the words “diligently you work.”
Yun Youyou broke into a sweat.
They hadn’t seen each other for only a few days, yet the Game had already learned sarcasm.
Yun Youyou didn’t feel guilty in the slightest.
Her skin was simply that thick.
Working as an NPC might be a rather otherworldly profession.
But the workplace was a battlefield, and a battlefield was a ranch. Everyone in it was nothing more than overworked livestock.
Far from feeling guilty, Yun Youyou was almost moved. She had waited so many years for this moment to arrive.
After studying workplace survival for years and preparing for so long, her time had finally come.
Yun Youyou thumped her chest. “You came to the right person. Out of all your outstanding employees, you picked me, the most outstanding one. That proves just how excellent your judgment is!”
The Game: […]
Yun Youyou continued, “You can record my outstanding performance and make me a role model for every ghost and monster.”
The Game: […]
A role model? She was a useless eating machine at best.
[Enough nonsense. Go change your clothes!]
“Yes, boss!”
Yun Youyou rushed into the restroom and eagerly pulled out the uniform.
The men in black had all looked rather muscular. The thin fabric clung to their upper bodies, clearly outlining their abs and pecs.

Sorry, Sis is the NPC You Can’t Catch Up With
(A completely brainless, silly story)
Yun Youyou opened her eyes and found that she had inexplicably become an NPC in a Horror Game.
