Yun Youyou blinked back at her.

“Why don’t you just turn into a ghost too and become my colleague?”

Tao Jinran: “…Never mind. I’ll pass, thanks.”

Yun Youyou looked disappointed.

After chatting for a while, the two of them finally drifted off into a deep sleep.

In the middle of the night, Tao Jinran suddenly caught a whiff of something foul.

Still half-asleep, she rolled over grumpily and snuggled into Yun Youyou’s arms, sniffing carefully.

It smelled sweet. She liked it.

Having found a scent she enjoyed, Tao Jinran fell back into a satisfied slumber.

As she slept, Tao Jinran suddenly felt a hand pressing down on her.

“Youyou, stop it.”

Tao Jinran pushed the hand away, rolled over, and continued sleeping.

A moment later, another hand reached out and rested on her.

Tao Jinran helplessly grabbed the arm and forced her eyes open.

“Youyou, you’re being way too naughty…”

Before she could finish her sentence, Tao Jinran’s eyes widened in horror.

This wasn’t Yun Youyou’s hand at all!

A Rotten Corpse was crawling out from under the bed. Two eyeballs hung loosely from its decaying sockets, glowing with a sickly green light in the darkness.

Seeing that Tao Jinran was awake, it struggled to climb onto the bed.

“Aaaaah!!!”

Tao Jinran let out a piercing scream and threw the rotting arm she was holding away from her.

The sensation of that slimy, viscous mucus was absolutely nauseating.

“What’s wrong?”

The soundly sleeping Yun Youyou was startled awake by the scream. She rubbed her eyes and sat up in bed.

Tao Jinran lunged forward and threw her arms around Yun Youyou.

“Waaaaah… It’s so scary!”

Yun Youyou reacted instantly, kicking the Rotten Corpse-which was just about to climb onto the bed-right back down to the floor.

She leaned over to look and discovered a steady stream of Rotten Corpses crawling out from the wardrobe.

Dammit!

Didn’t she just hack them all into mush earlier?

Why were there more at night?

Facing so many Rotten Corpses, Yun Youyou fell into deep thought.

Tao Jinran looked at her expectantly.

Yun Youyou’s face was a mask of calm. “It seems I have no choice but to use my Ultimate Finishing Move.”

Tao Jinran’s eyes lit up with excitement. “What finishing move?”

Yun Youyou: “Of the Thirty-Six Stratagems, fleeing is best.”

Tao Jinran: “…”

“Run!”

Yun Youyou suddenly scooped Tao Jinran up from the bed and bolted for the door, pulling her along.

She didn’t even forget to grab a sword off the wall as they went.

The Rotten Corpses behind them were in hot pursuit.

Yun Youyou kicked the main doors open, only to find the Eunuchs and Palace Maids standing outside the hall, all staring at them with sinister expressions.

They were about to be caught in a pincer attack.

Moving quickly, Yun Youyou cut down two Eunuchs and slipped through the gap between them.

“Youyou! Over here!”

Wang Yuanyou was standing on a nearby roof, waving at Yun Youyou.

Yun Youyou hurriedly pulled Tao Jinran toward him.

She used a Tentacle to hook onto the eaves and, with a graceful leap, easily vaulted onto the roof.

Once up, she used her Tentacle to pull Tao Jinran up as well.

“Crap! A Rotten Corpse grabbed my foot!”

Tao Jinran dangled in mid-air, her legs kicking wildly.

Her Shadowless Kick moved so fast it left afterimages in the air.

The Rotten Corpse stubbornly clung to Tao Jinran’s calf.

A raspy voice let out a cackling laugh.

“I-”

A foot slammed into the Rotten Corpse’s face.

Refusing to give up, it tried to speak again: “You-”

Another heavy kick landed squarely on its face.

The Rotten Corpse was forced to shut up.

Wang Yuanyou had originally intended to help, but when he leaned over, he saw that the rotten flesh on the corpse’s face had been kicked clean off, revealing the eerie white bone beneath.
Wang Yuanyou sighed in despair. “Brother, just let go if you can’t hold on. You’re being way too stubborn.”

The women in this Instance were all tigers-vicious and cruel.

“I’m going to eat you!” the Rotten Corpse howled in rage.

“Go eat your mother!” Tao Jinran screamed back. In a fit of fury, she shoved her foot directly into the Rotten Corpse’s mouth.

“Gag!”

Tao Jinran’s foot jammed right into the back of the Rotten Corpse’s throat.

The creature immediately let go of her and fell to the ground, dry-heaving uncontrollably.

Yun Youyou took the opportunity to pull Tao Jinran up.

Once she was safe, Tao Jinran looked at Wang Yuanyou with a complicated expression. “Why are you clutching your throat?”

Wang Yuanyou swallowed hard. “I suddenly felt a phantom pain in the back of my own throat.”

Tao Jinran: “…You’re being a bit too dramatic.”

Standing on the roof, they had a clear view of the situation below.

Almost all the Eunuchs and Palace Maids had undergone a mutation. They were now staggering around, searching everywhere for any sign of a Player.

A large number of Rotten Corpses had already gathered at the base of the building.

“Look!” Tao Jinran pointed down in shock.

These Rotten Corpses were surprisingly clever; they were stacking themselves on top of one another to form a human ladder.

“Go, go, go! We can’t stay here!” Wang Yuanyou shouted, preparing to jump down.

“Wait!” Tao Jinran grabbed him. “Haven’t you noticed there are more and more Rotten Corpses appearing down there?”

Looking closely, they realized that these corpses were all crawling out from Yun Youyou’s Bedchamber.

The three of them simultaneously thought of that Blood Pool in the middle of the Secret Passage.

“It must be that Blood Pool’s fault!” Wang Yuanyou said resentfully.

The three were trapped on the roof.

Although Ji Lin was powerful, it would still take him some time to break through the layers of Rotten Corpses blocking his way.

The Rotten Corpse at the very top of the ladder had already reached out and grabbed the eaves of the roof.

“Let’s go!” Yun Youyou made a split-second decision. She stepped firmly onto the head of a Rotten Corpse and jumped down, clutching Tao Jinran in her arms.

As soon as Yun Youyou and the others landed, the surrounding Rotten Corpses bared their teeth and swarmed toward them.

Yun Youyou used her Tentacles to snatch up several corpses and began swinging them wildly through the air.

“Move and die!”

The frenzied Tentacles spun so fast they looked like propellers. The captured Rotten Corpses wailed in despair as they were whipped through the air, occasionally colliding with their companions and knocking them flying.

“Holy crap, that scared the life out of me!” A Rotten Corpse was flung right next to Wang Yuanyou, nearly giving him a heart attack.

Relying on Yun Youyou’s rampaging Tentacles, the group finally managed to enter the Secret Passage.

While the corpses outside were piled up like mountains, there were only a few scattered here and there inside the passage.

Wang Yuanyou held the Imperial Sword Yun Youyou had given him, hacking away wildly as he guarded the entrance.

Tao Jinran asked curiously, “Since Ji Lin is so powerful, why are you such a weakling?”

Faced with such a question, Wang Yuanyou didn’t feel the least bit ashamed. Instead, he replied quite openly, “Even someone as strong as a Long Aotian needs a sidekick to make them look good. I am the sidekick specifically designed to make Ji Lin shine.”

Wang Yuanyou even offered up his own personal philosophy as justification.
