Wang Weiye trembled so hard he nearly collapsed to his knees. His usually shifty eyes were now filled with resentment and a sense of deep injustice.

“I don’t even know them! I’m really not a ghost! Why won’t any of you believe me?!”

He wailed, tears and snot streaming down his face, looking as if he were about to prostrate himself in a full confession.

He truly didn’t want to go to his death!

Yun Youyou and Shamate averted their eyes guiltily in the background.

At this moment, all they wanted to say to Wang Weiye was: “Thank you for your service.”

While the real moles were standing in the back with shifty gazes, the poor Player in the front was being subjected to ruthless interrogation.

Only after Wang Weiye swore a solemn oath to the heavens did Shen Qingyu finally, tentatively, believe him.

Tao Jinran continued, “Then what exactly does this Game want us to do? It even arranged for that inexplicable Landlord. That Landlord doesn’t do anything all day except eat people and ghosts. He’s a total cancer on this Game.”

Yun Youyou couldn’t have agreed more.

These big Bosses didn’t just eat people; they even ate their own colleagues. It was simply too much.

Yun Youyou completely forgot that she had also eaten her colleagues, though in her case, they had been served up to her by others.

“Could the key to clearing the Instance lie with the Landlord?”

Yun Youyou tentatively offered her own idea.

Tao Jinran looked at her. “Oh? What do you mean?”

“He demanded rent the moment he showed up. Maybe the key to solving this Instance is that rent.”

As soon as Yun Youyou finished speaking, everyone’s faces lit up with sudden realization.

The more Tao Jinran thought about it, the more plausible the theory seemed.

A Landlord’s purpose was to collect rent.

The group of them were living here without paying for rent or utilities, and they were even freeloading on the man’s food. If she were the Landlord, she’d be angry enough to eat people too.

Even Shen Qingyu looked at Yun Youyou with an appreciative gaze.

She had originally thought the girl was just a pretty face who relied on men. However, after spending more time together, Shen Qingyu realized she had harbored unfair prejudices. She had made snap judgments about Yun Youyou’s character simply because she was beautiful.

Having misunderstood someone, a trace of shame flickered across Shen Qingyu’s face.

The logic for solving the problem was there now.

However, it was like writing “Solution:” on an exam paper and then stopping at the colon. How to actually answer the question remained a major issue.

“But where are we going to find that much money for rent?”

Aside from Yun Youyou, who had started with a bit of cash in her purse, the others were completely penniless.

Shamate asked, “Do you think we could give the Landlord some items as collateral?”

Shen Qingyu shook her head. “I don’t think so. He probably wouldn’t agree. After all, the Landlord seems much more interested in eating us.”

Tao Jinran sighed. “So we’re just back to waiting for death?”

The group looked at each other and sighed in unison.

*Sigh…* They thought they had finally found a way out, only for their hopes to be dashed.

Yun Youyou listened quietly from the side.

Something clicked in her mind, and her eyes suddenly brightened.

“Even if we don’t have money for rent, we can always just change the Landlord!”

The more Yun Youyou thought about it, the more feasible it seemed. “For example, if the Landlord were replaced by me, then I could just waive all your rent.”

Tao Jinran’s eyes lit up as well.

Shamate, however, didn’t celebrate too early.

“But we can’t beat the Landlord in a fight. If anyone can actually take him down, I’ll call him Daddy.”

Yun Youyou raised her right index finger and wagged it in front of Shamate’s face.

“Who said we have to defeat the Landlord to replace him?”

Shen Qingyu was confused now too. “Then what do you suggest we do?”

“It’s simple. We find the Property Deed and change the name of the owner on it. Then the house will be under our names. While we’re at it, we’ll find our rental contracts and change the names on those as well.”

After hearing Yun Youyou’s idea, the group fell into a full minute of silence.

Shamate gave Yun Youyou a thumbs-up.

“You really are the devious one!”

Tao Jinran looked at Yun Youyou with admiration.

“Truly devious!”

Yun Youyou certainly had a bit of a wicked streak in her.

Fortunately, there were no police in the Ghost Realm, otherwise, Yun Youyou would likely have been hauled away.

“The Property Deed and rental contracts should be in the Landlord’s room. We’ll find an opportunity to lure him out, and Yun Youyou, you’ll use that time to go in and search.”

Shen Qingyu laid out the general plan.

The group intended to use the Landlord’s dinner time to execute the operation.

Yun Youyou nodded and headed back to her room first to prepare.

The others picked out two ghosts they had prepared long ago to serve as the Landlord’s dinner.

“The Landlord usually takes about twenty minutes to eat. You must leave his room before he comes back upstairs. If you don’t find the Property Deed, don’t panic; we’ll have another chance next time.”

After finishing her instructions, Shen Qingyu pulled some small props out of her pocket.

“Take these. They might not be incredibly powerful, but they can come in handy at a critical moment.”

Seeing this, Tao Jinran also pulled out props she had prepared earlier.

Shamate, fearing that the Violent Woman would hold a grudge if he didn’t contribute anything, reluctantly pulled out some junk he had collected.

Seeing everyone else offering things, Wang Weiye had no choice but to painfully dig into his pockets as well.

“You guys should keep them for yourselves,” Yun Youyou politely declined their kindness.

She was a ghost, after all; she felt a bit embarrassed taking items from Players.

Hearing Yun Youyou say that, Wang Weiye immediately stuffed his items back into his pocket, terrified that she might change her mind.

“No, you must take them!”

Tao Jinran and Shen Qingyu brooked no argument as they shoved the props into Yun Youyou’s hands.

Shamate hesitated for a moment before placing his items on top of the pile as well.

At least this Violent Woman hadn’t tried to eat him; she was a decent ghost.

Looking at her full arms, Yun Youyou didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but she felt a bit touched.

“Don’t worry, I’ll definitely complete the mission!”

When the time came, the Landlord stepped out of his room and headed toward the living room.

Taking advantage of his distraction, Yun Youyou slipped into the room.

Tao Jinran cautiously delivered the two ghosts to the Landlord.

Her heart was pounding with anxiety, terrified that the Landlord might find something unsatisfactory.

Fortunately, the Landlord only spared them a glance before extending his tentacles to enjoy today’s dinner.

Before Tao Jinran could even finish her sigh of relief, she heard the Landlord ask casually, “Where is my darling today? Why haven’t I seen her?”

“Oh, she’s feeling a bit under the weather today.”

Tao Jinran used every ounce of strength she had to control herself, ensuring her voice didn’t tremble.

The back of her clothes was already soaked with sweat.

“Is that so? Then I’ll go check on her.”
