Chapter 171
Chapter 171
Back at the villa, Old Man Wang kept hovering beside Yun Youyou, fishing for gossip.
“So how did you meet that young man? Which one of you chased the other?”
Yun Youyou pressed a hand to her forehead. “We’re honestly just friends.”
“I understand!”
After a one-second pause, he asked, “So are you two going on another date tomorrow?”
Yun Youyou: “…”
Regret. Pure regret!
If she’d known this would happen, she would have found someplace secluded to hide.
Wang Yi’an had just finished a video conference in the study and come downstairs for a glass of water. He happened to catch Old Man Wang’s question.
Suspicious, he wandered over. “A date? What date?”
The sight of his thirty-year-old bachelor grandson instantly soured the old man’s mood.
He shot Wang Yi’an a disgusted look and narrowed both eyes.
“And where did this bachelor come from? You’ve been single for half your life, yet you still have the nerve to ask about someone else’s date.”
Wang Yi’an: “…”
What a lightning-fast change of face.
He quickly realized that asking had been a mistake. He had walked straight onto the old man’s favorite land mine.
When Wang Yi’an turned to leave without another word, the old man immediately chased after him.
“If I round up, you’re practically fifty! Can’t you find yourself a partner? My standards aren’t even high. As long as she’s a woman and younger than me, she’ll do. Can’t you spruce yourself up a little and go find a wife?”
With Wang Yi’an drawing the old man’s fire, Yun Youyou seized her chance and slipped back to her room.
Wang Yi’an glanced over his shoulder and discovered that the person who could have shared the barrage had vanished.
He had no choice but to claim he was going to bed, hurry back to his room, and shut the door.
The old man planted his hands on his hips and scoffed.
“Going to bed this early? His kidneys must be weak!”
Wang Yi’an was nowhere to be seen the next morning.
The old man’s all-out offensive the night before had probably terrified him so badly that he’d boarded a flight for a business trip before dawn.
He had originally planned to haul both Yun Youyou and the old man to the Company so he could supervise his grandfather’s meals. In the end, he was the one who fled first.
Wang Yi’an did not even dare call personally. He had his assistant pass the message along.
The old man was deeply displeased when he heard.
“Other CEOs have delicate little wives running away pregnant, and he’s still a bachelor. What a disgrace to CEOs everywhere!”
Yun Youyou was curled up on the couch drinking milk and nearly choked.
Cutting off his internet really was necessary.
Before long, noon arrived.
Yun Youyou did not need to eat, but the old man in the house needed all three meals.
When she saw him reaching for the takeout app again, she stepped in to stop him.
“This doesn’t seem like a good idea. Your grandson said you need to eat healthier.”
The old man was deeply offended by her betrayal.
“He’s my grandson precisely because he’s such a meddler, while I’m his grandfather!”
Halfway through his rant, he began trying to lead Yun Youyou astray.
“You don’t want to be the grandson either, do you? Let me order this, and you’ll be my good brother!”
His twisted logic came so fast and sounded so complete that Yun Youyou was almost dazed by it.
Wang Yi’an, still on the plane, could never have imagined that Yun Youyou had just leaped several generations to become his grandfather’s sworn brother.
She tried to hold out a little longer.
Too much takeout really was unhealthy.
Then the old man said, “Let’s get luosifen for lunch. I know a place that’s incredibly authentic and absolutely delicious!”
That bowl of river-snail rice noodles was the final straw.
No ghost could resist the temptation of luosifen. At least, Yun Youyou could not.
Worst case, she could bring the old man back as a coworker someday and pull a few strings for him.
With Yun Youyou pretending not to see a thing, the old man smugly placed the order.
Fortunately, he had some self-control. He knew to order the mild broth and avoid anything too spicy.
The instant Yun Youyou smelled that soul-shaking aroma of pickled bamboo shoots, she nearly burst into tears.
That was the smell!
Tangy, crunchy pickled bamboo shoots, plump roasted peanuts, and bean-curd skin fried golden and crisp; every bite danced madly across her taste buds.
Yun Youyou took a sip of broth first. Sour, spicy, and perfect for waking the appetite!
The old man and the young woman sat in the air-conditioned living room, slurping luosifen with wild abandon.
Sweat poured off them, and life could not have been better.
Ding-dong! Ding-dong!
The doorbell suddenly rang.
Who would be visiting at this hour?
The old man raised his head and wiped his mouth with a tissue.
“Probably another one of my grandsons. His mother mentioned something about it this morning.”
Yun Youyou ran over to open the door.
The door swung open to reveal a familiar face.
“Wang Yuanyou?”
“Youyou?”
There was that familiar exchange again.
Both of them froze.
How could the world possibly be this small?
And he was not the only person outside. Another familiar figure stood beside Wang Yuanyou.
Su Manqing had never expected to run into the rude woman from the mall yesterday here of all places.
The instant their eyes met, the air filled with the heavy scent of gunpowder.
Even Wang Yuanyou, oblivious as he was, noticed that something was wrong between them.
Su Manqing spoke with open hostility. “What are you doing here?”
“None of your damn business!”
Su Manqing had been stewing in rage all night. “Do you have any idea who I am?”
“None of my damn business!”
Four simple words. Crude, direct, and highly effective.
Even Wang Yuanyou secretly gave Yun Youyou a thumbs-up from the side.
This was the woman his mother had insisted he go home to meet yesterday.
She was supposedly a friend’s daughter: sweet, gentle, and a perfect match for him.
It had only taken a few minutes of conversation for Wang Yuanyou to realize that “sweet and gentle” was complete nonsense. She was trouble in human form!
Then, when she heard he was visiting his grandfather today, she insisted on tagging along.
Running into Yun Youyou here was an unexpected delight.
The old man had been watching the show with great interest. Only now did he call out, “Come in, all of you. Don’t just stand outside.”
When they sat down, Wang Yuanyou took the seat directly beside Yun Youyou.
Su Manqing’s glare almost burst into flames.
After a few lines of idle conversation, she learned that Yun Youyou was merely someone the kindhearted old man had taken in.
Wang Yuanyou was never one to let a good spectacle die. Noticing that his grandfather and he were cramping the two women’s style, he hurriedly said, “Grandpa, why don’t we go upstairs and talk for a bit?”
The old man glanced to the side a few times, then happily agreed.
The two climbed the stairs, immediately turned around, found a corner to crouch in, and stared eagerly down at the living room.
Yun Youyou ignored everyone and continued eating fruit.
With the nuisances gone, Su Manqing dropped the act.
She knocked the peach from Yun Youyou’s hand with a sweep of her arm.
The plump, juicy peach landed squarely on Su Manqing’s foot.
She shot to her feet.
“These are Chanel shoes! Do you have any idea how much they cost?”
Yun Youyou rolled her eyes and sprang to her feet with an equally sharp smack.
The sudden movement scared Su Manqing back a step.
Yun Youyou grabbed the front of her own T-shirt, bristling with aggression.
“Do you know what this is?”
Su Manqing stared hard at the plain white shirt, her mind racing.
Was it some haute couture brand she had never heard of?
Yun Youyou lifted her chin imperiously.
“This is Stenchanel!”
“Fresh off a meal of luosifen.” She fanned the air in front of her nose. “Absolutely ra-a-ank~”
Su Manqing stared at her in shock.
What kind of nonsense was this?
Unwilling to remain inexplicably on the losing side, she snatched up the bag beside her. “That’s nothing. This is an LV bag!”
Yun Youyou scoffed. “LV? Please. That just stands for livestock.”
“I have the temper of a dog. Do you see me bragging about it?”
“I lie in bed like a pig. Do you see me bragging about that?”
“When I squirm around like a maggot, do I ever brag?”
