Chapter 102
Chapter 102
The two brothers escorted Yun Youyou to the foot of the girls’ dormitory.
After saying goodbye, Yun Youyou turned and headed inside.
The gray cement walls and plain white tiles made Yun Youyou feel as if she had returned to her old college dorm days.
Room 303. This should be it.
Yun Youyou took the key the logistics department had given her from her pocket and unlocked the door in front of her.
Behind the door, the three girls inside stopped what they were doing at the same time and looked up toward the entrance.
Yun Youyou raised a hand and gave a tentative greeting.
“Hi?”
The girl sitting on the bed with a face mask on gave a faint nod.
“Hello.”
The girl with her head lowered, knitting a scarf, also greeted Yun Youyou warmly.
The girl closest to the door came right up to Yun Youyou, her eyes fixed intently on her.
“You’re the new employee, right? I heard you’re amazing. You made that balding old man so mad he nearly exploded.”
Yun Youyou hadn’t expected her roommates’ first impression of her to be this.
She gave a few casual laughs and brushed it off. “It’s not that exaggerated. I just told him a few simple truths, that’s all.”
The four of them exchanged a few brief pleasantries.
The girl standing by the door was named Jiang Mixue. When she talked about her own name, her face filled with gloom.
“My mom clearly gave me such a pretty name, but everyone insists on calling me Old Man Rice. What a waste of a good name.”
Yun Youyou comforted her. “That’s still not too bad. I know someone named Shaqima. Come to think of it, your names are a pretty good match. The only problem is, eating too much of either can make you feel overheated.”
One Shaqima, one Old Man Rice. They sounded delicious together.
Yu Baizhu was lying on her bed with a face mask on, and she couldn’t help letting out a soft laugh when she heard that.
“Good thing my name doesn’t sound edible.”
Bai Xiaoxiao kept knitting her scarf without even raising her head. “Giant pandas love eating bamboo.”
Although the dorm environment looked average, at least her three roommates seemed fairly easy to get along with.
Yun Youyou briefly tidied up her bed.
At ten o’clock that night, the dorm lights went out on time.
Yun Youyou had slacked off for too long during the day, so now she wasn’t the slightest bit sleepy.
With both hands tucked behind her neck, she lazily let out a yawn.
A little moonlight spilled in through the window and fell across the foot of the bed.
After who knew how long, Yun Youyou finally began to feel a little drowsy.
She opened her mouth again and yawned.
A shadow silently wriggled its way to Yun Youyou’s bedside.
Immediately afterward, another dark figure clung eerily to the ceiling like a suction cup.
A black shadow also drifted across the cement wall.
Three pairs of pitch-black pupils stared at Yun Youyou, who lay on the bed with her eyes closed.
“Drip. Drip…”
The intermittent sound of dripping water kept ringing beside Yun Youyou’s ear, like an irritating mosquito.
Yun Youyou felt a chill on her forehead, followed by something damp.
Was the roof leaking?
She reached up and wiped it. When she opened her eyes and looked, she found a bright red streak of blood on her hand.
This trick felt kind of familiar.
Yun Youyou sat up in bed and discovered she had already been surrounded.
So she simply floated straight into the air and reached out to turn on the incandescent light.
Looking at the three people around her, Yun Youyou asked in confusion, “What are you guys doing?”
Once the incandescent light came on, the room instantly became as bright as day, and everything could be seen clearly.
Seeing Yun Youyou floating in midair, the other three were dumbstruck.
Jiang Mixue stared at Yun Youyou in shock, her voice trembling. “Y-y-y-you… How can you float in the air too?”
Yun Youyou glanced at the three of them. “Oh, because I have invisible wings.”
The three of them: “…”
Jiang Mixue said, “At a time like this, can you please not tell bad jokes?”
Yu Baizhu, who had been lying on the roof, floated down as well. She took a tissue out of her pocket and wiped away the bloody tears beneath her eyes.
“You’re not a ghost too, are you?” Bai Xiaoxiao leaned in close to Yun Youyou and carefully looked her up and down.
Yun Youyou looked even more shocked than they did.
“Of course I’m a ghost!”
The three of them exchanged a look, shrugged, then drifted back to their own beds in boredom.
Jiang Mixue crossed one leg over the other. “Ugh… If you’d said you were a ghost earlier, we wouldn’t have had to get up specially to scare you.”
They had thought they would finally get to scare a Player to their hearts’ content tonight.
It had been so long since they last heard a Player scream.
Bai Xiaoxiao had just lain back down on her bed.
But after thinking about it for ages, she still couldn’t figure it out. She sat back up and stared at Yun Youyou in disbelief.
“How can you be a ghost?”
Yun Youyou said, “…Do I not look like one?”
The three lying on their beds shook their heads in unison.
Jiang Mixue asked, “Which Instance are you an employee of? How come I’ve never seen you before?”
Yun Youyou said, “I’m a brick. Wherever they’re short-handed, they move me there.”
Yu Baizhu said, “That sounds pretty rough.”
[Ding! The Light Brain will now undergo an upgrade. All staff members, please wait a moment.]
The sudden system notification drew everyone’s attention.
“Another upgrade? This crappy system upgrades every day, but who knows what it’s even upgrading.”
Grumbling, Jiang Mixue opened her Light Brain. Sure enough, the screen showed that it was currently upgrading.
The few of them took the opportunity to start complaining about the Game.
About five minutes later, the Game prompted again: [System upgrade complete.]
Yun Youyou tapped open her Light Brain and discovered that a chat interface had appeared on the Light Brain’s page. It was a little like WeChat in real life.
After swiping through the page, Yun Youyou realized there was even a Ghost Circle inside.
However, it was still completely blank because she didn’t have a single friend yet.
“Let’s add each other as friends,” Jiang Mixue said excitedly.
“Sure!”
Yu Baizhu immediately handed her Light Brain over.
With a light scan and a “beep,” the friend request went through.
The four of them added one another as friends.
Yun Youyou was just about to exit the interface when she realized her Light Brain had vibrated several more times.
More ghosts had sent her friend requests.
Yun Youyou tapped in and saw two very unfamiliar names.
One Online Alias was: Don’t Go, You’re My Destiny!
The other Online Alias was: Don’t Call Me Red, Call Me Lord Red!
Yun Youyou: “…”
Very good. Very emo-internet-nonconformist. She could already guess who these two were.
Yun Youyou opened both of their Ghost Circle pages to take a look.
The new system had only been online for a few minutes, yet they had already posted new updates.
Seeing that familiar head of red hair, Yun Youyou was even more certain of her guess.
Red-haired Trendy Guy and Shamate really were men at the very forefront of fashion. So fashionable that Yun Youyou’s rheumatism was about to flare up.
The two of them had probably found Yun Youyou by searching for her name.
Yun Youyou’s Online Alias was still her real name, the system default.
