Chapter 219
Chapter 219
Yun Youyou hurried to the conference room, with Jiang Mixue following her.
The lights weren’t even on.
Only a few pure white candles stood on the table, casting an ominous glow.
Several ghosts gathered around the candles as the flames danced across their faces.
Yun Youyou said, “…What are you doing?”
The older man placed a finger against his lips and softly shushed her.
“Keep your voice down. We’re discussing something important.”
“What is it?”
Yun Youyou walked over curiously.
The older man pulled out a floor plan of Fu Group.
“We’re deciding how to infiltrate the Players’ ranks. We need to annihilate every last one of them.”
He drew a finger across his throat in a beheading gesture.
That confident?
Yun Youyou glanced at the map and casually asked, “How many ghosts will we have?”
The older man rubbed his nose.
“Not too many, not too few. Just us.”
Yun Youyou raised her head and counted.
Hah. Five ghosts in total.
The older man, Jiang Mixue, Xiao Yanxi, the older woman, and Yun Youyou herself.
Yun Youyou was baffled.
“Aren’t there lots of ghosts outside? Is this entire Instance really being propped up by only a few of us?”
The older man returned to his seat.
“It can’t be helped. The Instance is desperately short-staffed. The employees outside were transferred to other Instances. Ghosts have been getting used up especially fast lately.”
When it came to luck, Yun Youyou truly was fortunate.
The Game had recruited her as an NPC precisely when it was most desperate for staff.
Otherwise, with her habit of slacking and avoiding work, the Game would have fed her to some other monster long ago.
Now the Game couldn’t keep its workforce running.
Even the vicious ghosts couldn’t be bothered targeting low-level ghosts.
After all, if there were fewer ghosts below them, they would have to do more work themselves. That wasn’t worth it.
Yun Youyou reluctantly accepted the explanation.
“How many Players are there?”
The older man said, “Not many.”
Yun Youyou asked, “How many is not many?”
The older man looked up at the ceiling. “Six.”
Five ghosts against six Players.
Yun Youyou sneered. “What? Are you taking two?”
The older man said modestly, “I can’t do that. I’m not capable enough. Someone stronger will have to.”
Yun Youyou surveyed the room.
“Who’s stronger?”
Everyone stepped backward in unison and looked up at the ceiling.
Even Jiang Mixue took a step back.
Yun Youyou: ……
What was that supposed to mean?
After all this, they expected her to do it?
“You think far too highly of me.”
Yun Youyou didn’t believe she had the ability to knock out two Players at once.
The older man stepped forward to persuade her.
“It’ll be fine. We’ll all come help you when the time comes. You don’t need to worry.”
What a perfect way to sell an empty promise.
Yun Youyou gave him a thumbs-up.
“That’s one enormous, perfectly round pie in the sky.”
Xiao Yanxi mocked him too. “The only thing he’s good at is running his mouth.”
The older man pretended not to hear.
“You’re too kind. Too kind.”
He stepped forward and hung the floor plan of Fu Group on the whiteboard.
“Come take a look.”
Everyone leaned their heads closer.
The older man pointed to several spots. “When the time comes, we’ll enter through the basement. There’s a door right here.”
Jiang Mixue looked up at him.
“We can walk through walls.”
“Oh. I forgot.”
The older man patted his head. “Forget it. That isn’t important.”
Yun Youyou asked, “Weren’t there security guards here before?”
The older man coughed awkwardly.
“We’re short-staffed. The security guards were transferred to other Instances too.”
Amazing. There were only eleven Players and ghosts combined.
Even a murder-mystery party could nearly draw more people.
After the arrangements were made, everyone silently went back to prepare.
Preparing really meant sitting in their offices and staring blankly into space.
Only Jiang Mixue still had to suffer through work for Fu Yiming.
Eight o’clock that night.
Yun Youyou and Jiang Mixue set out along the route planned by the older man.
When they passed the security office, Yun Youyou stood on tiptoe and glanced inside.
It really was empty.
“Why don’t we go inside and change clothes?”
Yun Youyou suggested.
“Sure.”
Jiang Mixue readily agreed.
The two slipped into the security office and changed into two properly fitting uniforms.
Yun Youyou straightened her clothes in front of the mirror.
She had to admit, as long as she ignored the word SECURITY on the back, it looked quite handsome.
“Let’s go.”
Yun Youyou waved the baton in her hand and strode forward aggressively.
Jiang Mixue felt a little strange in the uniform.
Yun Youyou, on the other hand, held her head high and pushed out her chest, as though the uniform had been tailored for her.
They took the elevator upstairs.
The entire building was empty along the way.
It seemed the older man’s information had been correct. All irrelevant ghost personnel had left the building.
The older man might be good at selling empty promises, but at least he had a trace of humanity.
He had taken responsibility for the most troublesome one, Fu Yiming.
“Come on. Let’s crush them!”
Yun Youyou rested the baton on her shoulder and marched forward like a boss.
The moment they rounded a corner, they ran straight into a pair of eyes.
Jiang Mixue and Yun Youyou wished they could dig a hole and crawl into it on the spot.
The two spun around at lightning speed and tried to escape Fu Yiming’s line of sight.
But it was too late.
“Stop.”
A cold voice sounded behind the two unlucky ghosts.
Why should they stop just because he said so?
How humiliating would that be?
“Yun Youyou? Secretary Jiang?”
Another quiet voice drifted over.
Yun Youyou and Jiang Mixue stopped without a shred of backbone.
Although they had stopped, they still kept their backs to Fu Yiming.
The two communicated with their eyes.
Jiang Mixue: Why did you stop? Weren’t you supposed to have a backbone?
Yun Youyou: My legs have ideas of their own. Why didn’t you keep walking?
Jiang Mixue: I’m used to obeying him as his Secretary. It was instinct.
The two were both cowardly and pitiful.
What was wrong with the older man? How could he fail to keep watch over a single person?
Yun Youyou and Jiang Mixue still didn’t know they had been tricked.
On the other side of the building, the older man was laughing craftily.
Heh, heh. If he handed the most difficult person to those two ghosts, he could slack off and coast through the Game.
Yun Youyou and Jiang Mixue remained unaware of the truth.
Seeing the two of them hide their faces and refuse to turn around, Fu Yiming simply took another route and walked in front of them.
Yun Youyou and Jiang Mixue lowered their heads even farther.
Fu Yiming snorted softly. “Any lower and your heads will fall into the ground.”
Neither dared answer.
Yun Youyou and Jiang Mixue didn’t even dare raise their heads.
It wasn’t really that they were afraid of Fu Yiming.
The main problem was that he treated both of them well and was a good person.
Returning to their identities as ghosts and coming to make trouble for him felt immoral, almost like a betrayal.
They had no idea whether Fu Yiming knew their true identities.
“Tell me. Why are you wearing security uniforms?”
Fu Yiming’s gaze settled on Yun Youyou’s head, instantly placing her under immense pressure.
Yun Youyou steeled herself and said, “We’re obviously here to protect you.”

(A completely brainless, silly story)
Yun Youyou opened her eyes and found that she had inexplicably become an NPC in a Horror Game.
