Chapter 364
Chapter 364
Lu Jing and Qin Weiyi vanished into the light.
When they could see clearly again, they were in a mourning hall.
Qin Weiyi glanced around and saw Jian Fan and the other two nearby, watching him and Lu Jing with complicated expressions.
?
Something about those looks felt strange.
Before he could ask, however, another burst of light appeared and instantly enveloped all five of them.
Qin Weiyi: “?”
Now he was truly bewildered.
He and Lu Jing had been transported again the moment they arrived, so they naturally had no idea what had happened. Qin Nan and the other two, however, had watched the countdown jump straight from 0.008 to 0.
Then they had seen Qin Weiyi and Lu Jing appear in the mourning hall. An instant later, just as their gazes met, the camera’s completed countdown triggered a burst of light that drew all five into it.
When they could see again, their surroundings had changed.
They were now dressed in black suits. Mu Xin wore a black suit jacket and a black knee-length skirt.
They stood before a large entrance.
“What’s going on?” Qin Weiyi asked.
He distinctly remembered that a second ago, they had been inside a mourning hall.
“Please keep moving inside.”
A friendly reminder suddenly came from behind them.
The five glanced back. They were blocking the entrance, and many men and women in black suits were waiting to come in.
“Let’s go in first,” Jian Fan said, leading the way through the entrance.
Qin Nan and Mu Xin followed. Qin Weiyi was still puzzled, but he went after them for now.
Inside, they found signs. Following them forward and along a corridor, they arrived in a courtyard.
It was filled with white funeral wreaths and quite a few people.
There was also a room, plainly the mourning hall.
“Looks like it happened exactly as you guessed. We’ve come back to the time of Qi Xu’s funeral,” Qin Nan remarked.
Qin Weiyi: “?”
“Qi Xu?” He felt he had missed an extremely important clue.
Jian Fan gave an “Mm” and explained, “The farewell ceremony before his cremation.”
Qin Weiyi still felt rather lost.
Qin Nan told him the whole story: the scenario they had received, the camera they had found, and the footage they had seen on it.
After listening, Qin Weiyi gave a helpless twitch of his mouth. “What I’m most curious about now is how Qi Xu actually died.”
“The autobiography,” Jian Fan reminded them.
Mu Xin hurriedly took out the book.
Qi Xu’s death had been described in the autobiography from the start.
He was a successful man who had always been too busy with work to look after his health. As a result, he had suddenly fallen ill and died while still very young.
And this time…
Mu Xin checked the ending and said, puzzled, “The autobiography hasn’t updated.”
“So Qi Xu really did die from overwork?” Qin Nan was surprised, though it also seemed reasonable.
Malnourished as a child, then working himself to the bone once he had money. He hardly sounded like someone destined for a long life.
“Let’s go and look,” Jian Fan said.
No one objected.
Not objecting, however, did not mean they had no other feelings about it.
Qin Nan, for instance.
“Are we going to go through what happened in the video? Qi Xu’s corpse came to life in that recording, didn’t it? From what we’ve seen, he’s the big boss. Even the female ghost in red is no match for him. Can we survive him?” Qin Nan had a great many questions.
Their group was already the death group. Death might descend at any moment.
If they encountered Qi Xu’s reanimated corpse, the prospect was simply lovely. And if they were among those trapped in the mourning hall… well, Qin Nan thought that would be a truly delightful experience.
Given the Realm of Death’s viciousness, he thought an encounter with Qi Xu was virtually guaranteed.
Still, despite all his complaints, they had to go in.
If they did not experience it, how would they find the answer and, ultimately, a way to clear the world?
With those complicated feelings, Qin Nan followed Jian Fan into the mourning hall.
Staff members were stationed inside.
They guided the guests through paying their respects and bidding the deceased a final farewell.
After entering, Jian Fan followed the staff’s instructions and paid his final respects to Qi Xu according to the procedure. Seeing this, Qin Nan naturally did the same.
Once he was done, Jian Fan stepped aside. His gaze swept the surroundings and finally settled on the staff member holding the camera.
The man wore a mask and thick-framed glasses. With the camera held directly in front of his face, his features were completely obscured.
Jian Fan raised an eyebrow slightly.
After paying his respects, Qin Nan stepped over to join him.
“Well? Found anything?” he asked.
Before Jian Fan could answer, Mu Xin came over too. Qin Nan was not simply waiting for his reply; he was also studying their surroundings. Seeing Mu Xin, he asked, “How do you feel?”
She hastily shook her head. “Thoroughly creeped out.”
After all, if their guess was right, they would soon witness Qi Xu’s corpse coming to life.
They did not have to wait long for that to happen.
Once Qin Weiyi and Lu Jing joined them, the change came without warning.
A violent gust of wind swept through.
They had not been able to feel it in the recording. Now, however, they could be certain that this was an eerie, chilling wind. It made their hair stand on end and covered them in goose bumps.
Just as in the footage, the wind sent the people and objects in the courtyard staggering and toppling. The mourning hall’s doors slammed shut with a bang.
The noise startled every NPC, though not Jian Fan’s group of five.
“What a strong wind,” someone said.
“Hurry up and open the doors. It’s creepy in here,” said another.
Everyone agreed with that.
An NPC near the doors went to open them, but no matter how many times he pulled, they did not move.
The other NPCs noticed something wrong too.
“What’s going on?”
“I don’t know what’s wrong with these doors. They won’t open. Did someone lock them from outside?”
“How could that happen?”
More NPCs crowded over.
They wanted to open the doors and leave, only to discover that the doors would not open at all. Then they began pounding on them and calling to the people outside, begging someone to let them out.
It was exactly the same as the footage.
Next, then, Qi Xu’s corpse would come to life.
Jian Fan and the other two immediately turned toward the body lying on the boards.
Qin Weiyi noticed where they were looking and followed their gaze. Lu Jing looked over as well.
Inside the mourning hall, the five of them now stared intently at the corpse while the NPCs frantically pounded on the doors and called for help.
The body had been completely still. Then, in an instant, his eyes snapped open, and he sat bolt upright.
