Chapter 112
Chapter 112
Lu Jing’s exchange with the opponent happened suddenly and ended just as quickly.
After two rounds of fire, the other side went silent. Lu Jing didn’t move immediately. Instead, he observed for a long time, and only after confirming that the enemy had been neutralized did he push himself up from the ground.
This time, he didn’t continue forward. He turned back.
Seeing Lu Jing return, the others exchanged looks of confusion. However, since Lu Jing hadn’t signaled them, nobody moved.
Lu Jing walked straight over to Qin Weiyi.
“Enemies?” Qin Weiyi asked.
Lu Jing nodded, his expression becoming somewhat difficult to describe.
Seeing him like this, Qin Weiyi frowned and pressed further, “Is the situation that dire?”
“Not exactly. It’s hard to say, it’s just…” Lu Jing racked his brain for every adjective he knew but still couldn’t find a way to express his current state of mind. He simply decided to describe exactly what he had seen. “There’s a Military Box not far ahead. Just now, three Rabbits were fighting over it, but I killed them all. For now, I can’t be entirely sure there aren’t any other people… Rabbits… nearby.”
“Rabbits?” Qin Nan asked, startled. Then, with a look of utter disbelief, he asked, “You’re not telling me that the ones firing the guns were Rabbits, are you?”
Lu Jing nodded. “More than that. These Rabbits are about our height, walk on two legs, and hold guns with their hands. Aside from looking different, there really isn’t much difference between them and us.”
Qin Nan: “…”
“A rabbit’s field of vision is 360 degrees,” Jian Fan suddenly spoke up.
Yellow Hair’s eyes widened. “How much?”
“A rabbit’s visual system is different from a human’s. Its field of view can reach 360 degrees. There’s a small blind spot where the vision overlaps right in front of its face. Rabbits are also somewhat farsighted. Shooting from a distance…” Jian Fan trailed off, letting the implication hang.
Didn’t that mean they had a total advantage in terms of vision?
Perhaps because they hadn’t seen it with their own eyes, the group was shocked, but they quickly accepted the reality. Or rather, the Realm of Death had already accustomed them to all sorts of bizarre occurrences.
“So what do we do now?” Lin Junruo asked. She didn’t care about the Rabbits; she only cared about their current situation. “Are we still going forward?”
The Military Box was right there, but whether or not to take it was a problem. It was highly likely that other Rabbits were watching from the shadows. However, giving up and turning back now left everyone feeling a bit unwilling.
Qin Nan thought for a moment, then looked at Jian Fan and asked, “Do you have a plan?”
Jian Fan tilted his head and looked at Qin Nan, momentarily confused by the look.
“Why are you looking at me? If you don’t have a plan, start thinking of one!” Qin Nan slapped Jian Fan on the shoulder, his tone making it sound like it was only natural.
Qin Nan was truly loath to abandon the Military Box, so he had to get the Big Shots to come up with something quickly. He didn’t dare rush Qi Shuping, but as for Jian Fan, shouldn’t he give him a little nudge?
Jian Fan looked speechless.
However, he soon spoke up. “There is a way.”
“What is it?” Qin Nan followed up immediately.
“Make them reveal themselves,” Jian Fan said.
Qin Nan’s head filled with question marks. “Just tell us what to do.”
Jian Fan didn’t answer. Instead, he shifted his gaze to Lu Jing. “This will depend on Lu Jing’s capabilities.”
Lu Jing looked equally bewildered.
Jian Fan’s method was simple-crude, even.
He had everyone gather a bunch of branches and leaves from the area, place stones inside them, and then wrap the foliage tightly around the stones.
Jian Fan had the group make several of these bundles.
Once he finished his preparations, Lu Jing looked at Jian Fan and asked, “What’s next?”
“Light them and throw them over,” Jian Fan said.
Lu Jing weighed the stones in his hand and asked, “Throw them at the spots where they were shooting from?”
Jian Fan nodded.
Lu Jing nodded back, understanding Jian Fan’s intent.
Since they couldn’t be certain if gunfire alone had eliminated all the enemies, they would switch tactics-specifically, using fire. If they made it impossible for those Rabbits to stay in that area, wouldn’t the creatures be forced to come out or retreat?
Once Lu Jing understood the plan, he immediately crouched down and fashioned a simple fire-starting tool.
After getting a flame going, Lu Jing took the bundles he had just made and lit them one by one. He gave them a few experimental swings to get a feel for the weight.
“Whoa, whoa, brother, take it easy! Don’t swing those toward us,” Yellow Hair shouted, watching Lu Jing’s dangerous movements and quickly offering a warning.
Lu Jing chuckled. “Don’t worry.” Having found his rhythm, Lu Jing backed up a short distance, took a running start, and hurled one toward the front.
This method really wouldn’t have worked without Lu Jing.
After all, an ordinary person couldn’t possibly throw that far.
Qin Nan glanced at the distance and silently moved to stand behind Jian Fan.
Without stopping for a moment, Lu Jing threw all the flaming bundles toward the direction of the earlier gunfire.
This wasn’t a rocky area or a beach; there were plenty of trees around. As soon as the fireballs hit the ground, they quickly ignited the nearby vegetation.
It would obviously take a while for the fire to truly spread, but if there were Rabbits over there, they would inevitably try to put it out. If a light vanished, Lu Jing would know there was trouble; he would fire a few shots in that direction, make a few more fireballs, and hurl them back over.
If a light went out, there was an enemy. If the light stayed, the fire would grow more intense, making it impossible for anyone to hide there.
This tactic soon made the vicinity lively again.
In addition to Rabbits trying to extinguish the flames, shots were fired back toward Lu Jing’s group. However, Lu Jing dodged them all and returned fire.
Presumably, the enemies were either killed or had fled. After a period of commotion, nothing remained in the distance but a towering blaze.
Seeing that the situation had stabilized, Jian Fan looked at Qin Nan and said, “You, Qian Xing, and…” Jian Fan looked toward Yellow Hair and Orange Hair. Before he could even finish, the two of them quickly stepped forward to show they were ready.
“The four of you go get the Military Box. Lu Jing will cover you,” Jian Fan said.
The four of them had no objections.
Though they were afraid of dying and wouldn’t have dared to go before, the fire across from them was burning so fiercely now that even if there were Rabbits, they would have been turned into roasted Rabbits. What was there to fear?
Besides, they had Lu Jing covering them from behind.
The four of them quickly rushed toward the Military Box.
Although they already knew from Lu Jing that their enemies were Rabbits, the four of them still froze for a good while when they actually saw three Rabbits collapsed near the Military Box. Qin Nan was the first to snap out of it, ushering the other three to hurry and move the box.
The Military Box was quite heavy, but with four people, it wasn’t much of a burden.
To be safe, they didn’t carry it directly. Instead, they hid behind the Military Box and pushed it along bit by bit.
They figured any Rabbits left would be charred by now, but what if? If the Rabbits weren’t afraid of fire, they would be toast.
