Chapter 295
Chapter 295
A chorus of familiar voices came from outside the door. Everyone shot to their feet, leaving only Jian Fan, Qin Weiyi, and Xia Zeqin seated.
“If objects pass right through them, will this door really stop them?” Yang Zhen asked.
She had helped move the furniture to barricade the door, but that had mostly been for peace of mind. Now that danger was upon them, they needed to seriously consider whether it would actually work.
Deep down, however, everyone already had a vague idea of the answer.
Lu Jing pulled the whip from his waist and took up position in front of the door. His actions made it clear how he intended to handle whatever came next.
Seeing this, Yang Zhen immediately drew her own whip. The two of them stood on either side of the doorway, shielding the group behind them.
Jian Fan watched them stand there and gave a resigned reminder. “The drool.”
Lu Jing caught on and scratched his head awkwardly. Then he reached to the side, grabbed a small wooden stool, and climbed onto it. Yang Zhen immediately followed suit.
With the two of them holding the front line, Jian Fan and the others divided themselves up. Some sat on the table, while others sat cross-legged on the chairs.
By the time they were done, the ghosts’ voices were already right outside.
The barricaded door stood before them, and yet–
The ghosts passed straight through it.
Fortunately, everyone had expected this, so they weren’t particularly surprised. Lu Jing’s expression didn’t even change. The instant a ghost appeared, he lashed out with his whip.
The ghosts had never expected to be struck the moment they entered.
The one in front took the full force of the blow. Its entire body burst into flames, and then it vanished on the spot.
Jian Fan’s eyes lit up at the sight.
Before this, the ghosts had always controlled their speed, so the whip had only grazed them and left minor wounds. But that last strike had landed squarely on them.
In other words, these whips could destroy the ghosts.
That was undoubtedly good news.
Lu Jing’s first strike eliminated two or three ghosts and frightened many of the others back. Then he and Yang Zhen lashed out from either side. After several strikes, the already flimsy door collapsed with a loud bang.
With the door gone, everyone could clearly see the courtyard outside.
Most of the ghosts who had been at the Xie Residence were now gathered in this courtyard.
Brother Zhao’s courtyard wasn’t very large, and the ghosts were packed together in a dense mass. Some were squeezed so tightly that their faces had become distorted.
The sight left everyone at a loss for words.
With Lu Jing and Yang Zhen holding the front line, the ghosts didn’t dare advance for the time being. All they could do was drool, and the liquid gradually seeped into the house. Fortunately, everyone had already taken precautions, so they were in no immediate danger from it.
But if this stalemate continued, the drool would eventually rise high enough to reach them.
“Time,” Jian Fan said. “Wait.”
Qin Nan immediately checked the System time.
It was almost five o’clock. Dawn would be breaking soon.
They only needed to hold out a little longer, and then they could escape unscathed.
Since there was no immediate danger, everyone had enough presence of mind to discuss other matters.
“Miss Xie is pretty devious,” Yellow Hair remarked.
One bouquet per person. Excluding Xia Zeqin, there were ten of them, and each bouquet had cost fifty Points. That meant they had spent five hundred Points in one go. Yet despite paying all those Points, all they had really done was leave the Xie Residence and move somewhere else. Their situation hadn’t changed in the slightest. At most, they had been given a brief chance to catch their breath.
That was one expensive solution.
“If she were that easy to deal with, there’d be nothing frightening about the Realm of Death,” Qin Weiyi said with a chuckle. The situation before them wasn’t entirely unexpected.
Yellow Hair sighed.
“We may be able to make it through this time, but what are we going to do tomorrow night?” he asked worriedly.
If this kept up, they couldn’t keep sending flowers just to find shelter. Besides, raising their Favorability too high wasn’t necessarily a good thing. They had only managed tonight because the wedding had taken up most of the evening. Without it, they would have had to move from place to place every so often, and there was a limit to how many times they could exchange for flowers. They wouldn’t last long.
“There’s an item,” Jian Fan suddenly said.
“What is it?” Yellow Hair turned to him.
“The Security Lock,” Jian Fan replied.
Yellow Hair immediately opened the Points Mall and pulled up the Security Lock’s description.
Although these ghosts could pass through doors, would the Security Lock stop them from passing through one? If so, their safety at night would be guaranteed.
“I exchanged for a Security Lock,” Qin Weiyi said. Looking at the ghosts outside, he continued, “We don’t know how long we’ll be staying here. We shouldn’t use it unless we have to, and when we do, we need to get the most out of it.”
Qin Weiyi didn’t think it was worth using in their current situation. The Security Lock lasted twelve hours, but if they activated it now, they would only benefit from it for an hour or two. It would be a complete waste.
Yellow Hair nodded. “We should be able to make it through tonight. With the Security Lock, we’ll be safe tomorrow.”
And not just tomorrow. Over the following days, the others could exchange for one as well. At the very least, that would guarantee their safety for several days.
The thought put Yellow Hair at ease.
A few days should be enough for Big Shot Jian Fan and the others to uncover some clues. Even if they weren’t ready to solve the Realm of Death by then, they shouldn’t still be completely in the dark like they were now.
As they spoke, the drool continued to rise little by little.
The ghosts didn’t dare approach. They could only stand at a distance, staring at them with ravenous hunger.
Their drool flowed faster and faster.
It had already risen as high as the stools. At this rate, it would soon reach Lu Jing’s feet.
And contact with that drool could be fatal.
Qin Weiyi’s expression turned grave.
He was sitting on a table, so the drool was still some distance away from him. But the stool Lu Jing stood on was shorter, and the drool would soon rise above it.
There were other small pieces of furniture nearby, but there was no way to get any of them over to Lu Jing now.
Qin Weiyi’s brows drew tighter and tighter.
He looked up at the sky outside.
It was already six in the morning, but the sky was still pitch-black. Sunrise came at different times in spring and winter. If it rose any later… Lu Jing might not make it.
With that thought, Qin Weiyi opened the Points Mall again, hoping to find an item that could get Lu Jing out of danger.
Compared to Qin Weiyi’s concern, Lu Jing remained remarkably calm. He kept a firm grip on the whip in his hand, ready to lash out the moment any ghost took a step closer.
As for the drool beneath his feet…
Lu Jing glanced down.
It was slowly creeping over the top of the stool, about to touch his feet.
