Chapter 279
Chapter 279
When Qin Nan arrived, he overheard the three of them having a conversation that sounded nothing like a discussion about working together and far more like a verbal sparring match.
“Qin Nan, you’re here.” Yellow Hair was the first to notice him and called out a greeting.
Qin Nan nodded to him, glanced at Yang Zhen, then patted Yellow Hair on the shoulder and said earnestly, “Good luck.”
Yellow Hair sighed. “This is seriously difficult.”
Yang Zhen: “???”
I suspect the two of you are taking a shot at me, and I have the evidence to prove it.
They chatted about nothing in particular for a while, and the others gradually arrived. Before long, the familiar bus appeared in the Realm of Death.
“Let’s go,” Qin Nan called to Yellow Hair and the others. He then went to meet Jian Fan, and the two of them boarded the bus together.
Everyone else followed one after another.
All twelve members were present this time. Once the entire group had boarded, the bus set off.
Jian Fan and Qin Nan sat together as usual, with Mu Xin and Lin Junruo in the row ahead of them. Across the aisle, Lu Jing sat with Qin Weiyi, parallel to Jian Fan and Qin Nan, while Yellow Hair and Yang Zhen occupied the row in front of them.
Although Yang Zhen kept calling herself a lone wolf, the moment she boarded the bus, she quite naturally sat down beside Yellow Hair.
In Yang Zhen’s eyes, gender made no difference. Since Lin Junruo was sitting with Mu Xin, the only natural choice left was Yellow Hair.
Fang Kang and Xia Zeqin, of course, each sat alone as usual, looking every bit the loners they were. Zhou Jingying chose a seat near Jian Fan’s group. Shi Chen also wanted to build a relationship with them, so he selected a nearby seat as well. In the end, Zhou Jingying and Shi Chen exchanged a glance and sat together.
However, the two of them were only sharing a seat for the time being. Neither had any intention of working with the other.
After all, they barely knew each other.
The bus rolled steadily onward.
Everyone had something on their mind.
Qin Nan’s large group, of course, was preoccupied with their Points.
As everyone remained lost in their own thoughts, the bus soon carried them to their destination.
Xia Zeqin made no move this time. Fang Kang was the first to get off, and only after he had left did Xia Zeqin rise and follow him. The others disembarked one after another behind them.
The moment they stepped off the bus, everyone began surveying their surroundings.
They seemed to be standing at the entrance to a small town.
The town had an old-fashioned charm to it. The buildings looked nothing like modern houses and bore the unmistakable marks of age. Even the road beneath their feet was paved with bluestone slabs rather than concrete.
A large ceremonial archway stood before them. In front of it was a stone stele inscribed with three characters: Leqing Town.
“This is a town?” Qin Nan asked in surprise.
What kind of instance was this?
They stood before the archway, beyond which stretched a street lined with houses. Every door was shut, however, and not a single person could be seen on the road. The whole place looked rather desolate.
Jian Fan gave the surroundings only a cursory glance before looking away.
“Points,” he reminded them.
As he spoke, Jian Fan had already opened the Points Mall and begun considering which items to exchange for.
Qin Weiyi and the others had also been studying their surroundings. At Jian Fan’s reminder, they all opened the Points Mall as well.
The Realm of Death was not so ruthless that it would try to kill them the instant they got off the bus. They could search for clues later, but they needed to spend their Points as soon as possible.
Everyone opened the Points Mall.
Zhou Jingying knew part of what was going on. Although she was still somewhat confused, she was at least aware of the situation. She had no intention of spending her Points, but she opened the Points Mall anyway to see what new items had become available for this world.
Shi Chen and the others, meanwhile, were genuinely baffled.
Xia Zeqin didn’t care. Fang Kang was curious but couldn’t bring himself to ask, and Shi Chen… Shi Chen was too embarrassed to ask as well.
And so, it ended with the entire group standing silently at the entrance to the town.
Some of them truly had nothing to say, while others were naturally busy exchanging their Points for items.
Jian Fan had quite a lot of Points now, but considering the possibility of unexpected developments later, he planned to spend five or six hundred first and decide what to do with the rest depending on the situation.
He quickly found an item he wanted.
Time Rewind: Rewinds time by one minute. Cost: 100 Points.
It was only one minute, but at a critical moment, this item could prove invaluable.
Still, an item this useful cost only 100 Points. This world was probably far from simple.
With that thought, Jian Fan promptly exchanged his Points for it.
Time Rewind was limited to three per person. Jian Fan only bought one for now. After all, even if he bought more, he might not get the chance to use them all. Once this world ended, these items would disappear, even if they had never been used.
After purchasing Time Rewind, Jian Fan continued browsing. He soon found another item that seemed useful.
Blooming Flowers: Give them to the townspeople to increase their Favorability. The amount gained varies depending on the recipient, ranging from 2 to 10. Cost: 50 Points. Limit: ten per person.
Jian Fan didn’t hesitate for long. He bought five, spending another 250 Points.
Increasing an NPC’s Favorability meant they could obtain more clues from them. No matter how situational the item might be, they would surely find some use for it.
Besides those, Jian Fan also bought something called a Brocade Pouch for 300 Points. Its description in the Points Mall was oddly brief, consisting of only one sentence: See how lucky you are. It was limited to one per person.
In other words, it might contain something completely useless, or it might yield something valuable. Simply put, it all came down to luck. After thinking it over, Jian Fan decided to buy it.
The others were spending their Points as well.
Qin Weiyi planned to browse the entire Points Mall before making his decision.
He was somewhat interested in Time Rewind, but since the others might buy it too, he held off for the time being. After looking through the selection, he exchanged his Points for something called a Security Lock.
Security Lock: For use on a door. Once the door is locked, no one can enter for twelve hours. Single-use item. Cost: 500 Points.
Qin Weiyi went ahead and bought it, then closed the Points Mall.
Once he was done, he said to Lu Jing, “Go get some weapons.”
The Points Mall had added a large number of new items this time.
Aside from the assorted items Qin Weiyi and Jian Fan had bought, there were also conventional weapons such as daggers and bows. Of course, firearms were not available.
Lu Jing studied the long list of weapons for a while but couldn’t find anything he particularly wanted. In the end, he settled for a whip.
Whip: An ordinary whip. Cost: 300 Points. Valid for the duration of this world. Limit: one per person. The whip may be damaged and cannot be repaired once broken.
“Three hundred Points for an ordinary whip? That’s ridiculously expensive,” Lu Jing muttered.
