Chapter 93
Chapter 93
Jian Fan handed a down jacket to Qin Nan.
“For me?” Qin Nan was a bit surprised.
He understood that Jian Fan had plenty of Points, but the fact that he was spending them on him was still a bit of a shock.
“Yeah. Buying two was cheaper,” Jian Fan explained expressionlessly.
Qin Nan paused for a moment before taking the down jacket from Jian Fan’s hand and throwing it over his shoulders. “Thanks.” As he spoke, Qin Nan opened the Point System.
A single down jacket cost fifty Points. Buying two offered a ten percent discount, making it ninety Points for two. Qin Nan’s gaze then fell on the next item.
A couple’s down jacket set, including one male and one female version, cost eighty Points.
Tsk, why did the couple’s set have to be cheaper? Qin Nan grumbled internally while stealing a glance at Jian Fan. Actually, Jian Fan was thin enough that he could probably fit into a women’s size. He felt that Jian Fan should have saved some Points by getting the couple’s set instead.
It was ten Points, after all.
“My Points,” Jian Fan said, sounding somewhat exasperated.
Qin Nan blanked for a second, then covered his mouth in surprise. “Did I actually say that out loud?”
Jian Fan returned a cryptic smile and said, “If you’re willing to wear the women’s version, it’s not out of the question.”
“Thanks, but no thanks. I think this one is just fine.” Qin Nan silently wrapped the down jacket tighter around himself. Say what you will about the System being a scam, the quality of its products was guaranteed; once he was bundled up in the jacket, he did feel significantly warmer.
Qin Nan didn’t forget to pull up the hood, and he instantly felt much cozier.
Yellow Hair was sitting some distance away from the two, but he was also by the fire. Looking at the two of them already bundled up while he was still wearing his thin, single layer of clothing, he didn’t just feel the chill on his skin-he felt it in his soul.
He checked the Point System, finally gritted his teeth, and chose to exchange for a down jacket as well.
Points were important, but you had to be alive to use them. Besides, a down jacket was fifty Points; if he caught a cold and got sick, the Points for medicine would easily exceed a hundred.
It’s not a loss, it’s not a loss.
Yellow Hair secretly consoled himself.
Jian Fan wasn’t the only one who used Points.
Although Lu Jing had already done a lot, they were simply lacking too many supplies. Someone like Lu Jing, who was healthy and had a strong physique, might not feel it much, but people like Jian Fan and Qin Nan really couldn’t hold out.
Qin Weiyi had originally wanted to tough it out, but in the end, he chose to use his Points just to be safe.
He glanced at the items.
There were blankets available for exchange, but blankets were too bulky and hard to carry. Moreover, Lu Jing had to keep watch during the latter half of the night. Thinking this over, Qin Weiyi still chose a down jacket.
The couple’s set.
He was small, so he could wear the women’s version.
After Qin Weiyi made the exchange, he handed the men’s down jacket to Lu Jing. Lu Jing was taken aback but didn’t refuse; he took it and wrapped the jacket around himself.
Over in the sleeping area, seeing that Qin Weiyi had used Points, the others soon began to waver. While the tents could block the wind, their effectiveness against the cold was mediocre. Down jackets and blankets seemed to be becoming a necessity.
Soon, the others began exchanging for down jackets one after another.
However, everyone exchanged for their own individually.
“Jian Fan.” Qin Nan nudged Jian Fan with his elbow. “It’s pretty boring. Why don’t you tell me about your work? I’m quite curious what it’s like for you scientific researchers when you’re on the job.”
Yellow Hair, listening from the side, immediately pricked up his ears.
“It’s nothing special. Clock in on time, clock out on time. If something unexpected happens, we work overtime,” Jian Fan replied flatly.
“If you put it that way, then it really isn’t any different from anyone else,” Qin Nan said, somewhat speechless.
Jian Fan paused for a moment before continuing. “My work is a bit different from typical scientific research. I deal with computers more than anything, spending my days surrounded by data and code. Occasionally, I’ll head down to the production line to take a look.”
“What about you?” Jian Fan asked.
Qin Nan shrugged. “Watching dramas, writing reviews, making videos-just that same cycle over and over.” As he spoke, a sudden thought struck him. “Do you think the Realm of Death has specific selection criteria when it pulls people in, or is it just random?”
Among the Players, there were all sorts of professions and personalities. If you wanted to talk about intelligence, someone like Lu Jing definitely didn’t fit the bill. Or perhaps they were all leaders in their respective fields? But Qin Nan glanced out of the corner of his eye at Yellow Hair and decided that didn’t seem likely either.
Could it really be random? If so, for someone like him who had never even won five dollars on a lottery ticket in his life, his luck this time was a bit too good.
Jian Fan shook his head. “I don’t know.”
Yellow Hair had been listening intently to their conversation. At this point, he spoke up hesitantly. “I’ve been thinking about something.”
Qin Nan and Jian Fan looked over. They didn’t feel any annoyance at Yellow Hair suddenly interjecting; they were simply curious about what he wanted to say.
Yellow Hair swallowed hard. “After we’re wiped out by the Realm of Death, we die in the real world too. But how do we die? I’ve traveled through quite a few worlds and met several groups of people. Those people had experienced entirely different worlds from mine and met other Players. The sheer number of people must be massive. Even if it doesn’t seem that significant compared to the total global population, with so many people dying mysteriously for no reason… hasn’t it triggered some kind of investigation?”
While people died every second of every day across the globe, bizarre causes of death would always attract more attention-especially when it involved someone as talented as Qi Shuping.
Since they had encountered Qi Shuping, there were bound to be other elites from various industries. Ordinary people aside, wouldn’t the sudden, abrupt deaths of these high-profile individuals cause even a ripple of suspicion?
But if the authorities had already been alerted and started investigating, Yellow Hair wanted to know when it would finally end. He had already survived several worlds, yet he still couldn’t see any glimmer of hope.
Was it possible that even if people in the real world noticed these anomalies, they were powerless to change anything?
The mere thought made Yellow Hair’s heart race with fear.
Qin Nan hadn’t expected that Yellow Hair, who seemed quite comedic and appeared to have a decent mindset, was actually harboring such thoughts in private.
“Borrowing trouble,” Jian Fan remarked with a sharp, brief assessment.
Yellow Hair blanked for a moment, then gave a bitter smile. “Yeah.”
Borrowing trouble. Even if he racked his brain, he wouldn’t be able to figure out the why or how. Constantly dwelling on things that had no answers was really just a way of sabotaging his own mental state. Yellow Hair understood this, but he just couldn’t help himself.
“Sometimes I really admire people with a good mindset,” Yellow Hair said, his gaze sweeping over Jian Fan and Qin Nan.
He felt that these two had excellent mentalities.
This was Deserted Island Survival, and the Realm of Death would never provide such a simple world; there were bound to be other hidden settings. In a situation where everything was a total blur, these two didn’t seem to have any sense of urgency at all. They even had the heart to sit there discussing which couple’s down jacket was a better deal and who should wear the women’s version.
To put it simply, he was envious.
He envied their stable mindsets, and he envied them being a pair. Unlike him-all alone, unable to even find someone to split a discount with when buying a down jacket.
