Chapter 222
Chapter 222
“How many Points do you have now?” Jian Fan suddenly asked Qin Weiyi.
Qin Weiyi fell silent.
Only after a long moment did he answer, “Seven thousand and twenty.”
Jian Fan had warned them that the more Points they accumulated, the more maliciously the Realm of Death would target them. It wasn’t that Qin Weiyi distrusted him. But aside from the Vampire world, none of the later worlds had seemed to single him out too severely.
Jian Fan nodded, then looked at Mu Xin. “You?”
“Six thousand six hundred and fifty,” she replied.
Qin Weiyi had at least been targeted once. Mu Xin, meanwhile… seemed to have encountered nothing at all.
Finally, Jian Fan turned to Lu Jing. “And you?”
Lu Jing scratched his head. “Six thousand nine hundred.”
Yellow Hair was stunned. “Why are all your scores so high?”
“Deserted Island Survival awarded a lot. And before that, when I was with Xiao Qin, he gave me the Points in some worlds too,” Lu Jing explained earnestly.
Yellow Hair: “…”
That was enough to inspire envy, jealousy, and hatred all at once.
Jian Fan frowned.
“We don’t seem to have been targeted,” Qin Weiyi said.
He knew why Jian Fan had asked, so he chose to address it directly.
Jian Fan laughed softly. “Are you sure?”
Qin Weiyi paused.
He didn’t answer, but Lu Jing said, “It really hasn’t been much different from the earlier worlds.”
Mu Xin nodded too. She trusted Jian Fan, but the facts did appear that way.
“What were the earlier worlds like, and what are they like now?” Qin Nan gestured at the group gathered around them. “We don’t even need to look far back. In the last world, if we hadn’t formed a team, we would’ve slaughtered one another. That wasn’t the Realm of Death targeting one particular person. It targeted everyone–better to kill ten thousand than let one escape.”
The others fell silent.
That did seem true.
If they hadn’t been a team–or if even one person among them had harbored a hidden agenda–the world would have become a bloodbath. They had experienced worlds of mutual slaughter before, and those usually claimed many lives.
Why target them one by one when the Realm of Death could place them all in a world designed for infighting, kill off a portion, and slowly deal with the survivors afterward?
It was… an effective method.
Once Qin Nan pointed it out, they reconsidered the previous Escape Room world as well.
With someone as vicious as Zhao Yingguo there, if they hadn’t united–and if Jian Fan hadn’t found the key and led everyone out–the result would probably have been another pile of bodies.
“In future worlds, if danger reaches a point you can’t control, don’t be stingy with your Points,” Jian Fan said. He offered no further explanation and left.
Only six people remained in the Realm of Death.
They looked at one another, uncertain what to decide.
They had worked hard to save those Points. Spending them would hurt. But Jian Fan’s warning…
Qin Weiyi looked at Qin Nan. “How many do you have?”
“Four thousand seven hundred.” Qin Nan shrugged. “I can keep scraping by for a while.”
Even so, he leaned toward accepting Jian Fan’s advice.
Lin Junruo silently hugged herself. Her total wasn’t as high as Qin Weiyi’s, but after this world she had passed five thousand. Players were targeted after five thousand Points. Given her limited abilities, the thought worried her.
“We’ll handle things as they come,” Mu Xin said.
Qin Weiyi nodded. “That’s all we can do.”
It would be best not to spend Points, but if they truly reached a desperate situation, they would have no choice no matter how reluctant they were. Still, despite believing Jian Fan, everyone retained a sliver of hope.
Hadn’t Qi Shuping successfully left the Realm of Death?
They were tired too.
After the discussion, they dispersed and each chose a room through which to leave.
They could only use this brief period of rest to recover before throwing themselves onto the next battlefield.
If Jian Fan was right, the next world would be even more difficult.
The Realm of Death soon fell silent again.
“…”
Yang Zhen was the first to emerge from a room.
Yellow Hair came next.
The moment he saw her, he greeted her. “Morning, Sister Yang.”
Yang Zhen swept her gaze over him, and an idea quickly occurred to her.
Abandoning her former coldness, she walked over and threw an arm around Yellow Hair’s shoulders as though they were close brothers. “Brother, what should I call you?”
Yellow Hair paused.
His gaze fell to the hand on his shoulder.
Wasn’t Yang Zhen being a little too familiar?
“Brother?” she called again when he didn’t answer.
Yellow Hair came back to himself and smiled. “Sheng Mao. You can just call me Yellow Hair, Sister Yang.” As he spoke, he glanced at her height.
Yang Zhen was very tall. Yellow Hair barely reached one meter eighty, yet she seemed slightly taller than him.
If not for her ponytail and distinctly feminine features, he might have suspected she was actually a man.
Then again, judging by her manner, she probably didn’t think of herself as much of a woman either.
Yang Zhen looked at his yellow hair and sighed. “You really live up to your name, Brother. You’ve got character.”
Yellow Hair forced an awkward smile.
“Brother, I want to ask you about something.” After two lines of small talk, Yang Zhen went straight to the point.
Yellow Hair had guessed her intentions, but he had never expected her to be this direct. Without the slightest courtesy, Yang Zhen hurled a barrage of questions at him.
“Do you all work as one team? Who leads it? That Jian Fan seems impressive. And what’s going on with Xia Zeqin? Your relationship with him doesn’t look good. Also, that Lu Jing of yours sounds like a strong fighter.”
Yellow Hair: “…”
“Sister, would you believe me if I said I don’t know them well?”
That was half true and half false.
Yellow Hair wasn’t especially close to Jian Fan’s group, and there was much he didn’t know. But after passing through several worlds together, they had formed at least some bond.
Yang Zhen’s face darkened. “Brother, now you’re just refusing to show me respect.”
Yellow Hair sighed. “We’re not one team.”
Yang Zhen: “???”
“Do I look like an idiot?” she asked.
Yellow Hair countered, “Do I look like a liar?”
“Yes,” Yang Zhen replied seriously.
Yellow Hair: “…”
Goodbye.
His reaction surprised even Yang Zhen. “You’re really not together?”
“No. Qin Nan, Mu Xin, and Jian Fan are one group. Qin Weiyi and Lu Jing are together. Lin Junruo and I operate alone and cling to the Big Shots.”
Yang Zhen genuinely hadn’t expected that arrangement.
After thinking, she asked, “What about the big dumb oaf?”
The big dumb oaf?
Yellow Hair paused before realizing she meant Shi Chen.
