Chapter 138
Chapter 138
“The password should still be somewhere in this room,” Jian Fan said.
Since the box belonged to the dormitory supervisor, the password ought to be in this room too.
They would find the password to the metal box here, and then they would probably find some information related to the backstory inside. As for whether the key was in there as well, Jian Fan couldn’t be sure.
Qin Weiyi nodded. “Everyone, keep looking.”
The group had no choice but to get back to work.
Qin Weiyi searched the table holding the television.
There were two drawers in the table as well.
However, there wasn’t anything particularly useful inside. Most of it was just small everyday items, and for now, he didn’t see anything they needed.
Beside the television hung a calendar.
It was a calendar from 2014, already flipped to March.
The calendar was hanging a little high, and Qin Weiyi couldn’t quite reach it. After weighing the distance in his mind, he gave up on trying and called out, “Lu Jing.”
The dormitory supervisor’s room also had a private bathroom.
Lu Jing was in the bathroom at the moment. Hearing Qin Weiyi call him, he immediately came out.
“Xiao Qin, what’s wrong?” Lu Jing asked as he walked over to Qin Weiyi.
Qin Weiyi raised a hand and pointed at the calendar on the wall.
Lu Jing nodded and stepped forward. With a casual reach, he easily took the calendar down and handed it to Qin Weiyi.
Qin Weiyi took it.
“Is there something strange about this calendar?” Lu Jing asked.
Qin Weiyi shook his head. “I don’t know. I just want to see if there are any clues.” As he spoke, he began flipping through the calendar.
Qin Weiyi first checked the first two months. The calendar was clean, with no marks on it at all. After a quick glance, Qin Weiyi continued flipping. The following pages were just as clean as the earlier ones, until-
He flipped to October.
October 21 had been circled in red pen.
Qin Weiyi quickly thought of the red words written on the half mirror in the dorm room earlier.
2021.10.21. Death.
October 21, 2014. October 21, 2021.
What connection could there be between them?
As Qin Weiyi pondered this, he turned to Liu Ji and asked, “How many digits is the password?”
Liu Ji was tinkering with the metal box.
Hearing Qin Weiyi’s question, Liu Ji immediately answered, “Six digits.”
Qin Weiyi looked at the date, a thought beginning to form in his mind. Could the password be related to this date? But the part that seemed special was October 21. There were still two digits left. What would they be? 14, or 21?
Or was there other information?
Qin Weiyi continued flipping through the calendar.
The calendars for the next two months were also clean.
The cleaner they were, the more conspicuous that red-circled date became.
Qin Weiyi placed the calendar on the table.
For the time being, he still didn’t have any solid thoughts about the date October 21.
Qin Weiyi looked at Lu Jing and asked, “Did you find anything over there?”
Lu Jing shook his head. “It all seems pretty normal. There are some skincare products women use, but I can’t make heads or tails of them. Other than that, there’s nothing much.”
Looking at Lu Jing, Qin Weiyi felt that asking him had been somewhat unnecessary.
When it came to combat strength, Lu Jing could handle it. When it came to mental work, he couldn’t.
Qin Weiyi felt it would be more practical to go take a look himself.
He headed straight into the bathroom.
The bathroom’s structure was similar to the one in the student dormitory from before. Aside from a slight difference in size, the layout was exactly the same.
Several towels hung in the shower stall. The rack inside held body wash, shampoo, and the like. The mirror above the sink was intact, and on the counter sat a whole set of toiletries, along with a few skincare products.
It really was a perfectly normal, common sight. At first glance, there was nothing strange about it.
Except-
Qin Weiyi picked up one of the rinse cups on the sink, while his gaze fell on the other rinse cup still sitting there.
“A single bed. Only one person should be living here,” Qin Weiyi said.
Lu Jing paused, then smacked his forehead. “Right. There should only be one person living here, so why are there two rinse cups and two toothbrushes?”
It couldn’t be that the dorm supervisor used two sets all by herself.
In other words, aside from the dorm supervisor, a second person had lived in this room-and had come here often. Otherwise, they never would have left a rinse cup out on the counter so casually.
Qin Weiyi lowered his eyes. “Maybe we should look around and figure out which things in this room belonged to the dorm supervisor, and which belonged to someone else.”
Lu Jing scratched his head.
He felt this question was not exactly suited to him.
Qin Weiyi did not need an answer from Lu Jing, either.
He left the bathroom and walked straight over to Jian Fan.
Jian Fan naturally noticed Qin Weiyi approaching and turned to look at him. “Find something?”
“Aside from the dorm supervisor, there should have been a second person living here. There are two rinse cups in the bathroom,” Qin Weiyi explained briefly.
Jian Fan was not surprised, and he answered almost immediately. “Zhao Yingguo.”
“What?” Qin Weiyi was a little confused.
When Jian Fan and Qin Nan had been talking, they had not deliberately kept it from the others, but everyone had been busy with their own tasks. They would not necessarily have paid attention to someone else’s conversation right away.
Qin Weiyi had not noticed.
After all, once Jian Fan discovered something, he would summarize the important points and tell them.
Qin Weiyi trusted Jian Fan’s ability, so he had not spent much effort listening in.
“The girl who had the accident. Unless something unexpected comes up,” Jian Fan said.
Since Jian Fan put it that way, he naturally had his reasons. Qin Weiyi was curious about how Jian Fan knew this person’s name, but right now, he cared more about something else.
“You mean the dorm supervisor and Zhao Yingguo had a private relationship?” Qin Weiyi thought it over. “Zhao Yingguo was very likely being bullied at school. In that case, she probably didn’t have any friends around her, and the dorm supervisor may have known about her situation, reached out to help her, and taken her in when Zhao Yingguo ran into trouble?”
That did make sense.
Then what would Zhao Yingguo have left behind in this room?
And if the dorm supervisor was able to lend a hand, as someone who was at least part of the school’s management staff, was taking her in really all she could do?
Even if her ability was limited, reporting the situation to higher-ups could have changed some of Zhao Yingguo’s predicament. Even if the school refused to act, if the dorm supervisor stepped in, then even if those students were not afraid of her, they would still have restrained themselves somewhat. Surely it wasn’t so hopeless that she couldn’t change the situation at all, right?
“Perhaps,” Jian Fan replied to Qin Weiyi.
But that “perhaps” made Qin Weiyi raise an eyebrow. “You don’t seem to agree with that interpretation.”
“Mm.” Jian Fan did not deny it. “Rather than saying she reached out to help, it would be more accurate to say she pushed Zhao Yingguo completely into hell.”
Qin Weiyi’s expression instantly turned grave.
“Are you saying the dorm supervisor was one of the perpetrators too?”
