Chapter 69
Chapter 69
There was no second floor.
Qin Nan froze.
“Why would you say there’s a second floor here?” The Security Guard looked at Qin Nan with growing suspicion. The other Security Guard and the waiter, who were showing Mu Xin the surveillance footage, also turned to look at him.
Qin Nan gave an awkward laugh. “There isn’t? Did I remember wrong? I’ve been to too many bars; I must have gotten them mixed up.”
“Not that old, yet you’ve got early-onset Alzheimer’s,” Jian Fan added coldly from the side.
While the three employees had been somewhat skeptical of Qin Nan’s words, they quickly relaxed upon hearing Jian Fan’s dry remark.
“Young lady, look. This is the surveillance footage from when you first sat down in the booth. I’ve zoomed in for you; you weren’t wearing a necklace even then. Do you remember when you arrived at the Bar? I’ll check the entrance for you,” the Security Guard Uncle said, pointing at the computer screen as he spoke to Mu Xin.
Mu Xin’s feigned expression stiffened for a moment.
Video of them entering the Bar? There probably wasn’t any.
“Are you lying again?” Qin Nan suddenly snapped at Mu Xin, his tone unfriendly. “Did you sell your things and go gambling again?”
Qin Nan knew full well that they couldn’t let the Security Guard check the surveillance footage of the entrance.
“I didn’t!” Mu Xin caught on instantly. “I haven’t been gambling either, don’t slander me!”
Mu Xin resolutely refused to accept the persona Qin Nan had just fabricated for her.
Jian Fan pressed his hand to his brow, then apologized to the Security Guard. “I’m sorry for the trouble. It seems the kid in our family was lying again.”
The security guards were baffled by this development, but they waved it off. “It’s fine, it’s fine. As long as you’ve figured out what happened.”
“Yes, thank you for your help.” With that, Jian Fan looked at Mu Xin, his voice icy. “Let’s go. Stop making a scene here.”
“I didn’t do it!” Playing the role to the end, Mu Xin shouted at Jian Fan through tears.
Qin Nan grabbed Mu Xin and said coldly, “I’ll deal with you once we’re outside.”
Under the watchful eyes of the security guards and the waiter, the three of them-two scolding and one crying out “I didn’t”-left the Surveillance Room and bickered all the way back to the main hall of the Bar.
The three of them returned to their booth.
“I thought we were staying in the Surveillance Room? Why did we come out so fast?” Once they were seated, Mu Xin asked. She kept up the act of crying, fearing the security guards might notice something wrong through the cameras.
“The Surveillance Room didn’t have what we needed,” Jian Fan said succinctly.
Mu Xin was a bit disappointed. “Then wasn’t that whole performance for nothing?”
“Not necessarily,” Jian Fan said.
Both Qin Nan and Mu Xin looked over at him.
“Can you just say what’s on your mind? You know, you’re actually quite punchable when you do this,” Qin Nan said, somewhat speechless. Jian Fan did this every time-saying things like ‘not necessarily’ or ‘maybe not’-and then waiting for them to prompt him before slowly explaining.
Could he not just get straight to the point?
Jian Fan paused for a moment before replying, “I’ll try.”
“I checked the surveillance. There were five people wearing a Vampire Mask,” Jian Fan said.
Both Qin Nan and Mu Xin were stunned.
“In that short amount of time, on such a small screen, you saw all that?” Mu Xin sucked in a breath of cold air.
Qin Nan also muttered quietly, “Are you a human microscope?”
Jian Fan cleared his throat awkwardly and said, “If you look at where the commotion is and pay close attention, you can basically find them.”
“That’s just you,” Qin Nan said expressionlessly.
Mu Xin lowered her head and coughed, silently moving past the topic. “So, there were five original Vampires? At this rate of development, how many Vampires are on the floor now?”
Mu Xin had only intended to end the previous topic, but as soon as she finished speaking about this new one, a shiver ran down her spine.
Five becoming ten, ten becoming twenty, twenty becoming forty… the further it went, the more terrifying the numbers became. She suddenly lost all interest in teasing Qin Nan and the other.
Qin Nan’s heart also sank.
The number of Vampires was increasing, yet the information they had gathered so far was still pitifully scarce.
This was not a good sign.
“To the second floor,” Jian Fan decided quickly.
They had to take a risk.
They say fortune favors the bold, but for them, it was their lives they were gambling for. On second thought, however, the second floor might actually be the safest place right now.
There were likely fewer Vampires on the second floor than in the Bar’s main hall.
The three of them began heading toward the second floor.
After circling the Bar, Qin Weiyi eventually came to the same conclusion.
“We’re going to the second floor,” Qin Weiyi told Lu Jing.
Lu Jing was somewhat surprised. “The second floor? Isn’t it dangerous up there?”
Qin Weiyi swept his gaze across the Bar’s main hall and asked, “Do you think it’s safe here?”
Lu Jing silently shut his mouth.
Just as the two were preparing to leave the main hall, a guest wearing a masquerade mask suddenly approached them.
It was a woman in a red qipao. She stood before them and extended a hand toward Lu Jing. “Sir, may I have this dance?”
Startled, Lu Jing immediately looked at Qin Weiyi.
Qin Weiyi knit his brows slightly and refused without hesitation. “I’m sorry, we’re busy. Miss, please invite someone else.”
Upon hearing this, the woman did not leave. Instead, she let out a chuckle. “But what if I say I only want to invite you two? One or the other-pick one to stay and dance with me. How about it?”
Lu Jing frowned. “Are you deaf? Didn’t you hear him say we’re busy and don’t have time?”
The woman tilted her head, glanced at Lu Jing, and then turned her gaze back to Qin Weiyi.
“I don’t like his tone; it’s quite unpleasant. In that case, it’ll be you.” As she spoke, the woman suddenly reached out toward Qin Weiyi.
Alarm bells immediately went off in Qin Weiyi’s head. He retreated several steps to avoid her hand, shouting quickly, “Lu Jing!”
Lu Jing understood instantly. He grabbed the woman’s wrist and, with a surge of strength, executed a shoulder throw, slamming her onto the floor.
With a loud thud, the surrounding guests were stunned.
Soon, more and more people noticed the commotion. The staff also spotted the situation and began walking toward them.
“Go!” Qin Weiyi urged, grabbing Lu Jing.
Realizing the situation, Lu Jing hoisted Qin Weiyi onto his shoulder and bolted in one direction. As they ran, the Bar staff immediately gave chase. Not only them, but several people in the Bar stopped what they were doing, their eyes following Lu Jing and Qin Weiyi as they fled.
This included the woman Lu Jing had thrown.
The woman climbed up from the floor and cracked her neck, producing a series of audible pops.
“Tsk. Doing it the hard way, then,” the woman remarked before chasing after the direction Qin Weiyi and Lu Jing had gone.
Qin Weiyi was currently in a foul mood.
Lu Jing was fast, and they soon left their pursuers behind, but Qin Weiyi didn’t feel the slightest bit relieved.
He had been targeted by a Vampire.
That was truly cursed news.
