With Lu Jing around, Deserted Island Survival didn’t seem quite so difficult anymore.

Lu Jing got a fire going, and Qin Nan’s group dug five pits around their temporary shelter. They gathered leaves and branches and started building up the flames.

Lu Jing then finished dressing the snake and the pigeons, skewering them on branches. He set up a rack over the fire to roast them and cracked open the coconuts by hand. He gave one to each person and set the remaining three aside as temporary reserves.

They hadn’t found anything edible along the shore yet, but with tonight’s dinner already secured, there was no need to rush.

Night fell quickly.

The aroma of roasted pigeon began to waft through the air. Though they hadn’t felt it much before, the group gradually realized their stomachs were empty.

Yellow Hair rubbed his belly and walked over to Lu Jing, with Orange Hair following close behind.

The opened coconuts and the bananas were currently with Lu Jing and Qin Weiyi, under the latter’s watch.

“Give us two portions of bananas and coconuts,” Yellow Hair said to Qin Weiyi.

Yellow Hair knew there wasn’t much meat to go around. He was certain there wouldn’t be any for the two outsiders, so he spoke up first to show he was sensible and knew his place.

Qin Weiyi indeed had no intention of sharing the meat with them. However, seeing how cooperative they were being, a smile touched his face, and he gave them an extra bunch of bananas.

Lin Junruo was also getting hungry.

After a moment’s thought, she stood up and walked over to Qin Weiyi.

“Um, I’d like a portion of bananas and a coconut too,” Lin Junruo said somewhat tentatively.

Although she hadn’t been idle, Lin Junruo felt she hadn’t done as much as the others. At the very least, she felt the physical labor she’d contributed wasn’t worth a full portion of food.

Qin Weiyi was very straightforward. He handed a portion directly to Lin Junruo and said with a smile, “The pigeon and snake are still roasting. I’ll call you when they’re ready.”

Lin Junruo was flattered. “Oh, that’s okay. These will be enough for me.”

“Don’t be so polite. We don’t even know if we’ll have food tomorrow, so eat while we have it,” Qin Weiyi chuckled.

Seeing this, Lin Junruo didn’t refuse further and offered a sincere “thank you.”

Once Lin Junruo left, Qin Weiyi portioned out the rest of the coconuts and bananas and called out to the others, “One portion each. Come and get it.”

Xia Zeqin didn’t show much of a reaction; he simply stood up and took his share.

By the time Qin Weiyi finished distributing the fruit, Lu Jing had finished roasting the meat. Lu Jing turned to look at Qin Weiyi, and before he could speak, Qin Weiyi handed him the combat knife.

Lu Jing took it with a grin and quickly sliced the meat into pieces, placing them onto banana leaves.

Qin Weiyi divided it into two parts.

He kept half a pigeon and one snake for himself and Lu Jing. He took the other portion and walked over to Qin Nan’s side.

“For the four of you,” Qin Weiyi said, handing the food over.

‘The four’ naturally included Lin Junruo.

Qin Nan took it. “Thanks.”

“Don’t mention it,” Qin Weiyi replied with a laugh before turning to leave. After returning to his spot, he glanced at Qi Shuping, who was sitting a bit further away from them. He took another banana leaf, picked out some meat from their own portion, and brought it over to her.

Qi Shuping was somewhat surprised.

“I didn’t really do anything,” Qi Shuping said, declining the offer.

Qin Weiyi placed the food directly in front of her. “Then just consider it me respecting my elders.” With that, Qin Weiyi turned and walked away.
Qin Weiyi soon returned to Lu Jing’s side.

Everyone sat eating their respective food.

Yellow Hair surreptitiously observed their surroundings. He and Orange Hair were latecomers, so it was normal that they didn’t get any meat. However, Xia Zeqin and Qian Xing… Yellow Hair calculated silently in his mind and exchanged a look with his companion, Orange Hair.

The group finished their makeshift meal.

They had exerted a lot of physical energy earlier. Although they were full now, they still felt quite exhausted.

Yellow Hair looked at Lu Jing and asked, “Big brother, do we need to keep watch tonight?”

Lu Jing nodded. “Yes. We’ll split into shifts. The girls, the elderly, and the child don’t need to participate, so the seven of us will rotate. Three people for the first half of the night and four for the second half. Does that work for you?”

“I’m fine with that. I’m not sleepy yet. How about Jian Fan and I take the first half?” Qin Nan said, looking at Jian Fan beside him for his opinion.

Jian Fan gave a calm “Mhm.”

Lu Jing nodded. “I reckon things are more likely to go wrong during the latter half of the night, so I’ll take that shift. What about you two?” Lu Jing looked at Yellow Hair and Orange Hair.

Yellow Hair chuckled. “Then I’ll take the first half, and Orange Hair can take the second.”

The two were clearly planning to split up for the watch; only by doing so could they keep a constant handle on the situation.

Lu Jing didn’t object. Instead, he looked at Xia Zeqin and Qian Xing. “Then you two will also be responsible for the second half.”

“Fine,” Xia Zeqin didn’t refuse.

Orange Hair pushed himself up from the ground. “Then I’m going to sleep first. Wake me when it’s time.”

Lu Jing also looked at Qin Weiyi. “It’s about time. I’m going to get some sleep. You?”

“Together,” Qin Weiyi stood up. He had also used up a lot of energy.

Mu Xin and Lin Junruo were tired as well. After saying goodbye to Qin Nan and Jian Fan, they left together.

The sleeping area was divided into two sections. Several of the men slept in one spot, while the other was reserved for the women. Qi Shuping watched from the side, and seeing that things were settled, she prepared to rest as well. Xu Tian naturally followed close behind.

Soon, besides the three on watch-Qin Nan, Jian Fan, and Yellow Hair-only Qian Xing and Xia Zeqin remained by the fire.

“Brother Xia, should we rest too?” Qian Xing looked at Xia Zeqin.

Xia Zeqin didn’t reply. Instead, he suddenly pulled a tent out of thin air.

Qin Nan witnessed this scene and his lip twitched. He really wasn’t surprised at all. He felt it was already a miracle that Xia Zeqin had eaten the food they brought back instead of using Points to exchange for something else.

Qian Xing was stunned for a moment.

“Then… Brother Xia, I’m going to sleep.” Qian Xing felt a bit awkward.

Xia Zeqin ignored him and began pitching the tent on the spot.

Qian Xing glanced at him and had no choice but to head over to where Qin Weiyi and the others were.

Yellow Hair was slightly surprised. He then examined Qin Nan and Jian Fan’s expressions; seeing they were indifferent, another thought took root in his mind.

As night fell, the temperature by the seaside continued to drop. Qin Nan silently moved a bit closer to Jian Fan, rubbing his arms as he began to think. “Jian Fan, do you think we should exchange for some down jackets or something? If we’re out in this wind all night, we’ll probably catch a cold.”

Just as Qin Nan finished speaking, Jian Fan suddenly reached out and pulled two black-and-white down jackets out of thin air.

Qin Nan: “…”

He felt that Xia Zeqin might truly be Xia Zeqin, and Jian Fan was overthinking things. After all, the two of them had practically the same way of doing things.
