Chapter 151
Chapter 151
Shi Chen arrived at the door to the dormitory supervisor’s room.
The door was shut.
Shi Chen wasn’t surprised. He had a pretty good idea this was Xu Yijie’s doing, and he let out a soft scoff.
Trying to steal a chicken only to lose the rice used to lure it-that was probably the perfect way to describe Xu Yijie right now.
Although Shi Chen didn’t know Zhao Yingguo, he had guessed that she likely couldn’t see and relied on hearing to track people. He simply hadn’t had the chance to share that with Liu Ji and Wen Xi before the three of them fell out like this.
Since they were no longer teammates, Shi Chen had no obligation to share his information anymore.
And right now, that monster should be chasing Wen Xi and Liu Ji. So… Shi Chen looked at the key in front of him, made a split-second decision, and turned it.
Qin Nan and the others were watching the footage again.
They had already searched everything there was to search in the room. Since they truly couldn’t find any new clues, all they could do in the end was pin their hopes on the footage, hoping to spot something new in it.
But just as the video reached the halfway point, the sound of a key turning suddenly came from the door.
Everyone froze.
Zhao Yingguo was blind, and she couldn’t pass through walls either. But what if she had found the key and used it to open the door?
Lu Jing reacted the fastest. He charged to the door and braced himself against it.
Shi Chen clearly felt that he had unlocked the door, but when he tried to push it open, he felt resistance from inside.
He frowned, but quickly calmed down and called into the room, “It’s me, Shi Chen.”
Lu Jing paused, but he didn’t believe him right away. Instead, he turned to look at Qin Weiyi.
Qin Weiyi did believe it was Shi Chen, but after what had happened before with someone being replaced by an NPC, he didn’t dare take the risk. So he turned to Jian Fan.
Jian Fan also frowned. After noticing Qin Weiyi’s gaze, he nodded at him.
Only then did Lu Jing step aside.
Shi Chen felt the resistance vanish and quickly pushed the door open. Just as he was about to shut it behind him, he heard Jian Fan’s voice again.
“Take the key.”
Shi Chen didn’t overthink it. He simply did as he was told. Once he had pulled out the key and entered the room, Lu Jing put his weight into it from the side, and the door closed.
“Why are you alone?” Qin Nan looked at Shi Chen, his brow slightly furrowed, his gaze appraising.
Shi Chen gave a faint snort and didn’t hide anything. “We split up.”
“Split… up?” Qin Nan was astonished. Splitting up at a time like this-should he praise them for their sense of timing?
Shi Chen nodded, then looked at Jian Fan and the others in confusion. “That monster tracks people by sound. You were talking earlier, but you didn’t draw her here?”
Jian Fan and Qin Nan had both spoken, and there was no sign that they were trying to forbid anyone from making noise. That meant they must have been talking normally before as well. Had he guessed wrong?
“She can’t get in,” Qin Nan explained simply, then continued, “You split up at a time like this?”
“Yes.” Shi Chen knew they would be confused, so he briefly explained what had just happened. “When we ran out, I took Wen Xi and hid in one of the dorm rooms. It was urgent, and I only had time to wait for Liu Ji before I shut the door. Xu Yijie died. Wen Xi blamed me for it, and Liu Ji took her side.”
At the mention of Xu Yijie, Jian Fan looked at Yellow Hair.
Yellow Hair nodded.
The first part was indeed just as Shi Chen had said, and judging from Shi Chen’s expression, he didn’t look like he was lying.
“What about the two of them?” Qin Weiyi asked.
Shi Chen shook his head. “I don’t know. When I came out, they were still in the dorm room. They probably still don’t know that the monster tracks people by hearing. The argument we had earlier should have already drawn the monster over. I think… their chances aren’t good.”
Everyone was stunned.
They weren’t going to blame Shi Chen for it.
At the start, Shi Chen had saved Wen Xi and Liu Ji. His help had been repaid with accusations, so he had chosen to split up and hadn’t warned them. That had led to their deaths, but no matter how you looked at it, none of that could be pinned on Shi Chen.
This was the Realm of Death. Moral blackmail and playing the saint would only make you die faster.
Shi Chen’s words dispelled most of their doubts.
His gaze fell on the television.
At that moment, it was showing Zhao Yingguo braiding her hair in the dorm room. Shi Chen froze for a second, then said, “She… is that monster?”
Qin Nan gave a hum of confirmation. “Her name is Zhao Yingguo.”
Qin Nan briefly explained the situation to Shi Chen, while the others continued watching the video on the television.
Meanwhile-
Liu Ji was still running like mad.
He sprinted all the way to the end of the corridor and stared blankly at the path that simply stopped in front of him. He began wondering whether he should find a dorm room to hide in.
But that girl could appear inside a dorm room out of thin air. That meant the rooms weren’t entirely safe either.
Liu Ji had lost all sense of certainty. He turned around in a daze, but before he could make a decision, he saw Zhao Yingguo slowly walking toward him. There were only two or three meters between them now.
Liu Ji’s expression changed drastically. He was just about to duck into a nearby dorm room when Zhao Yingguo suddenly turned into a cloud of Red Mist and appeared right in front of him.
Liu Ji only had time to let out a single scream-“Ah!”-before the Red Mist swallowed him whole.
His shrill screams echoed through the corridor. Very soon, they too faded into silence.
At Zhao Yingguo’s feet, another pile of bones, shattered into crumbs, quickly dropped to the floor.
“Three now,” Zhao Yingguo said. Then she laughed again. “Nine more to go. I’m coming to find you.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Zhao Yingguo turned into a mass of Red Mist and vanished from the corridor, leaving only the scattered fragments of bone behind as proof of what had happened there moments ago.
Of the twelve Player participants, three were dead. Xia Zeqin’s whereabouts were unknown. The remaining eight had all gathered in the dormitory supervisor’s room.
Shi Chen had never been much of a talker to begin with. Most of the time, he simply listened. From the others’ conversation, he began frantically collecting information. Then…
Bang.
Another impact sounded from the doorway of the room.
Everyone jumped in fright.
However, those who had experienced it before quickly calmed down. Only Shi Chen’s face went slightly pale, but after remembering what Qin Nan had told him earlier, he just barely managed to keep himself composed.
“Looks like Liu Ji and Wen Xi are gone too,” Yellow Hair said with a sigh.
Shi Chen didn’t feel particularly moved.
He would grieve if his own teammates sacrificed themselves, but he would never waste time feeling sorrow and pity over the deaths of two idiots.
“Now only Xia Zeqin is left,” Qin Nan suddenly said. As he spoke, he looked toward Jian Fan.
At the mention of Xia Zeqin, the others grew curious as well.
“He should’ve been the first one to run. Zhao Yingguo went after Xu Yijie first, then Liu Ji and Wen Xi. Xia Zeqin probably hasn’t been targeted yet. He should be like us, hiding in some dorm room, right?” Yellow Hair guessed.
“Probably?” Lin Junruo replied, though in truth, she didn’t think so. Xia Zeqin was far too strange.
Qin Nan didn’t answer. Instead, he opened the Points Mall and started looking through it to see what items Xia Zeqin might be able to use right now.
After some browsing-well, there really was something.
“Invisible Wall. Effective for one hour, two hundred Points. Effective for twenty-four hours, one thousand Points,” Qin Nan said. Then he asked a question straight from the soul: “Just how many Points does Xia Zeqin have? Does he have so many he can’t spend them all?”
