Chapter 89
Chapter 89
“That’s not an issue. The priority right now is finding a place to stay, as well as food and drinkable fresh water,” Lu Jing continued.
As his voice trailed off, no one answered him immediately. Instead, everyone stared at Lu Jing with unreadable expressions, including Qin Weiyi and Qi Shuping. Even Jian Fan looked at Lu Jing with a hint of surprise on his face.
Could there really be someone in the modern era who could start a fire without relying on lighters, matches, or things like that?
“What? Is there a problem?” Lu Jing asked, somewhat puzzled.
Qin Nan cleared his throat and asked, “Pardon me for asking, but when you talk about starting a fire, you don’t mean rubbing sticks together, do you?”
Lu Jing nodded. “Something like that. It would be more convenient with other tools, but since we have nothing right now, we can only use this more primitive method.”
Qin Nan looked at Lu Jing, his mind full of question marks.
Just what kind of monsters were these fellow Players? Of course, excluding himself-he felt like he was just an ordinary corporate drone.
“What else can you do?” Qin Nan asked, posing a soul-searching question.
In Qin Nan’s mind, Lu Jing was just a bodyguard with high combat power-a bit simple-minded, but a decent person. Now, he suddenly realized that the man he thought was just a bodyguard seemed to possess a vast array of skills.
Lu Jing let out an “Ah” and replied, “Isn’t Deserted Island Survival the same as wilderness survival? Wilderness survival is a required course, isn’t it?”
This time, even Qin Weiyi fell silent.
“You said you were a soldier, but they don’t usually learn these things, do they?” Qin Weiyi asked.
Lu Jing smiled and replied, “Well, soldiers are all soldiers. There’s not much difference.”
“…”
Never mind then.
Qin Nan could see it now; this instance was Lu Jing’s stage. The rest of them just needed to lie back and watch Lu Jing perform.
“Since Lu Jing understands these things, how about we follow his lead from here on out?” Qin Weiyi didn’t lose his composure for long and spoke up quickly.
On a deserted island, even if he had Lu Jing, Lu Jing couldn’t do everything alone. Moreover, it was still daytime; the night would be even more terrifying. He had to let Lu Jing conserve his strength.
Free labor was there to be used, after all.
“I’m fine with that,” Jian Fan stated his position. Once he spoke, Qin Nan and Mu Xin naturally wouldn’t object. Besides, they were already a team with Qin Weiyi and Lu Jing that formed and disbanded as needed; clearly, they would have to cooperate for another world.
After Jian Fan finished speaking, he looked toward Qi Shuping. “Professor Qi, join us.”
Qi Shuping thought for a moment, then nodded.
She was indeed worried that she would affect the others because of her own condition, but in the current situation, if she didn’t cooperate with Lu Jing and the others, she would likely be finished before the world had even truly begun.
Lin Junruo also immediately stated her stance. “I’ll join you too.” After saying that, she added weakly, “Though what I can do is limited, please feel free to send me to do whatever I can.”
Qin Weiyi gave Lin Junruo a friendly smile. “We welcome your joining.”
Lin Junruo was practically overwhelmed by the favor and hurriedly replied, “Thank you, thank you.”
Yellow Hair shrugged. “Since there’s an expert, we’ll naturally follow the expert. We’ll be in your care from now on.” He stated the position for his two-man duo with Orange Hair.
Only Xia Zeqin, Xu Tian, and Qian Xing remained.
Xia Zeqin chuckled. “I’m in.”
Xu Tian nodded as well.
At the start of this new world, the twelve Players had chosen to stick together. However, this grouping was clearly temporary, and there were distinct factions forming among them.
This time, the situation between Jian Fan and Xia Zeqin was the complete opposite of before. Jian Fan, who had initially seemed like an outcast, was now surrounded by several companions. Meanwhile, Xia Zeqin was left with only Qian Xing by his side. The others were secretly on guard against them, making Xia Zeqin the one who felt ostracized.
“Lu Jing, you tell us. What’s the plan?” Qin Weiyi asked, looking toward Lu Jing once everyone had finished expressing their stance.
Lu Jing didn’t decline the responsibility.
Deserted Island Survival was clearly within his area of expertise.
“We don’t know the situation on this island yet. Let’s split into three groups for now. Don’t go too far; just scout the immediate vicinity to see what’s around. Look for edible food, water, and materials we can use to build a shelter.” As he spoke, Lu Jing opened the System to check the time before continuing, “It’s 1:31 PM right now. Everyone must be back here by 3:00 PM.”
No one objected.
Next came the grouping. Lu Jing didn’t interfere with this part.
Lin Junruo was the first to speak up. “Mu Xin, can I go with you guys?” She spoke tentatively, fearing rejection, but she couldn’t just wait for a random assignment. If she ended up with Xia Zeqin again, she would truly go insane.
Mu Xin didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she looked at Jian Fan.
Qin Nan had a more easygoing personality, so if Jian Fan didn’t mind…
Jian Fan nodded.
He had actually wanted Qi Shuping to join them, but in a Deserted Island Survival scenario, he felt she would be safer following Lu Jing. Under these circumstances, letting Lin Junruo join their team was just adding one more person; it didn’t change anything.
Qin Weiyi picked up on Jian Fan’s signal.
“Professor Qi, why don’t you come with us?” Qin Weiyi said, then turned his gaze toward Qian Xing.
He had wanted Qian Xing to join them, but it was obvious Qian Xing wouldn’t abandon Xia Zeqin. Qin Weiyi had to settle for the next best thing and invited Xu Tian to join their group. If it weren’t for the sake of protecting Professor Qi, Qin Weiyi wouldn’t have wanted to bring Xu Tian along; he would have preferred the duo of Yellow Hair and Orange Hair.
Once the three teams were settled, they each chose a direction and departed, agreeing to meet back at the beach at three o’clock.
This time, Qin Nan took the lead to clear the path. Mu Xin and Lin Junruo walked in the middle, while Jian Fan stayed at the rear to cover them.
Watching them, Lin Junruo couldn’t help but feel a wave of emotion.
Previously, she had looked down on Qin Nan and Jian Fan and hadn’t wanted to cooperate with them. But after seeing the contrast provided by Xia Zeqin and Qian Xing, she realized that having Qin Nan and Jian Fan as teammates was actually wonderful.
As the men, they proactively took on more of the risks.
Past the beach lay a stretch of woods.
Qin Nan snapped a few branches off a tree. He gripped one and poked at the ground to test the feel of it. Once he confirmed it was sturdy enough, he handed the branches back. “The grass looks a bit tall here. Just in case.”
Mu Xin took them and passed them along.
Qin Nan had picked four branches, one for each person. Only then did they begin to head deeper inside.
The wild grass grew high, making walking very inconvenient and making it impossible to tell if there were any hidden dangers. Qin Nan moved slowly as he cleared the path, keeping a sharp eye on their surroundings at the same time.
“We should pick some grass on our way back,” Mu Xin said from behind him. “We can spread it out to make a makeshift bed.”
