Chapter 150
Chapter 150
In the Realm of Death, the most important thing was staying alive.
When his former teammates became nothing but burdens, Shi Chen would choose to abandon them without the slightest hesitation. The most he could do was refrain from stabbing them in the back or betraying them. For old times’ sake, he would save them if he could. As for anything more, he could only hope they parted on decent terms.
Ever since the last world had ended, Ah Zheng’s matter had pushed Wen Xi completely over the edge. And Liu Ji…
Shi Chen gave a derisive laugh.
Liu Ji liked Wen Xi.
Wen Xi liked Ah Zheng, while Liu Ji liked Wen Xi. Because of Ah Zheng’s death, Wen Xi had begun to fall apart inside. And because Liu Ji liked Wen Xi, he stood behind her without reason or question.
Shi Chen only found this group terrifyingly stupid.
They were in the Realm of Death, yet their heads were still full of love and romance. Did they think their lives were too long?
If they didn’t want to live, fine, but he had no intention of throwing his own life away with them. Compared to Wen Xi and Liu Ji, two teammates who had already become unreliable, Shi Chen had already found a better target.
Jian Fan.
And not just him. From the others as well, Shi Chen had sensed something that made a team truly compelling.
To survive in the Realm of Death, what he needed was exactly a team like Jian Fan’s.
So Shi Chen had to go back and find Jian Fan and the others.
Liu Ji shut the door and let out a long, heavy breath of relief. Then he leaned against it and began gasping for air.
Xu Yijie was dead, and Shi Chen had parted ways with them. Once Shi Chen stepped out that door, Liu Ji felt his chances were probably grim as well. Now only he and Wen Xi were left.
The situation was far from optimistic.
Liu Ji felt a headache coming on.
“Shi Chen isn’t that kind of person,” Liu Ji said. Although he had chosen to stand on Wen Xi’s side, he still resented her a little for driving Shi Chen away.
Wen Xi let out a laugh. “If you think he did nothing wrong, you can leave with him too. Do you think I’d care?”
Liu Ji paused. His brows drew together, and irritation rose in his chest, but when he met Wen Xi’s eyes, he ultimately only sighed.
“Stop thinking about it. Get some rest,” Liu Ji said, stepping forward and gently putting his arms around Wen Xi to comfort her.
But Wen Xi shoved him away violently and snapped, “Don’t touch me.”
Liu Ji froze, regret flashing through him. In the end, however, he said nothing. He walked to the side, found a chair, and sat down.
Wen Xi bit her lip. She also realized her emotions were wrong. Xu Yijie was already dead, Shi Chen had been angered into leaving by her, and now only she and Liu Ji remained. If she fell out with Liu Ji too…
Wen Xi felt a little regretful.
But she did not want to lower her head to Liu Ji either, so she found a place and sat down to one side.
The room fell silent.
However, neither of them knew that danger was closing in.
Inside the bathroom, a cloud of Red Mist slowly began to spread. After the Red Mist condensed into a mass, it gradually faded and transformed into a girl dressed in red.
The Red-dressed Girl, Zhao Yingguo, laughed softly. Her hand swayed, and the sound of a bell rang out.
Liu Ji and Wen Xi were still locked in their stalemate, in a state where neither was speaking to the other. But just then, a burst of bell chimes sounded, and the sound seemed very close.
The two of them immediately looked at each other.
“Did you hear a bell?” Wen Xi asked, her voice cautious.
Liu Ji nodded.
Wen Xi could no longer sit still. She shot to her feet, and Liu Ji followed. The two quickly moved together, their tense gazes fixed on the door.
The bell kept ringing, and it was growing clearer and clearer.
Wen Xi vaguely realized something. She whipped her head toward the bathroom. Reflected in her pupils was a girl in red, tilting her head and smiling at her.
And in the girl’s pupils, there was only a field of gray.
There was no one in the restroom at all. And this girl who had appeared out of thin air…
Wen Xi shot out a hand and grabbed Liu Ji’s arm. “Liu Ji!”
Liu Ji turned to look as well. The instant he saw Zhao Yingguo, he froze, then began to tremble all over.
Their minds were flooded with confusion.
How? How could this girl be here?
As for who she was, neither of them cared much about that anymore.
Zhao Yingguo tilted her head slightly and smiled. “I found you. Now, how should I punish you?”
As she spoke, she walked toward Liu Ji and Wen Xi.
“D-Don’t come any closer. Stay away.” Wen Xi backed up in fear. Then her hand brushed the back of a chair behind her. She grabbed it and hurled it at Zhao Yingguo.
Zhao Yingguo couldn’t see. Or even if she could, she had no interest in dodging.
The chair smashed into her, and her entire body dissolved into a sheet of Red Mist. The chair passed straight through her and landed on the floor behind her. Then, after the chair had gone through, the Red Mist condensed back into Zhao Yingguo’s body.
Wen Xi stared at it all in shock.
How could this be…
What was she supposed to do?
“You two aren’t being good.” Zhao Yingguo spoke again. Though she couldn’t see, she had clearly sensed the chair passing through her body. The smile remained on her face, but to Liu Ji and Wen Xi, that smile was terrifying beyond measure.
Zhao Yingguo was closing in on them step by step.
Wen Xi couldn’t stop herself from backing away. After a few steps, she stumbled and fell heavily to the floor. Her whole body had gone weak, and she couldn’t get up again.
As for Liu Ji… when he saw Wen Xi fall, his eyes suddenly lit up. He stepped forward, reached out to her, and pulled her up from the ground.
Wen Xi hadn’t expected Liu Ji to help her, and a surge of gratitude rose in her heart. But that feeling lasted only a moment before the expression on her face turned to disbelief.
Liu Ji had never meant to help her.
After he pulled Wen Xi up, she didn’t even have time to react before Liu Ji shoved her forward with all his strength, sending her straight toward Zhao Yingguo.
Wen Xi’s eyes went wide, filled with disbelief, but even more with terror-and regret.
She shouldn’t have fallen out with Shi Chen.
At most, Shi Chen would have stood by and let her die. But he would never have done what Liu Ji was doing now. Unfortunately, Wen Xi understood that far too late.
She crashed straight into Zhao Yingguo. In an instant, Zhao Yingguo turned into a mass of Red Mist that wrapped completely around Wen Xi. From within the Red Mist came Wen Xi’s agonized screams.
The moment Liu Ji shoved her away, he rushed for the door, yanked it open, and sprinted outside.
He heard Wen Xi screaming behind him.
Liu Ji grew even more frightened. He ran forward with everything he had. He couldn’t die. He absolutely could not die here like this.
Wen Xi’s screams gradually faded away.
The Red Mist became Zhao Yingguo once more.
Zhao Yingguo flexed her fingers, and fragments of bone scattered lightly from her palm. She turned slightly and smiled toward the doorway. “Run fast. I’m about to catch up to you.”
With that, Zhao Yingguo walked out through the door.
The way she moved made it seem as if she had never been blind at all.
Zhao Yingguo stepped into the corridor. She paused for a moment, listening to the sounds around her. Then she smiled and turned to the right.
The right was exactly the direction Liu Ji had chosen to flee.
