Chapter 127
Chapter 127
“It’s a very thoughtful idea,” Jian Fan said again. “And I mean that as a compliment.”
Qin Nan belatedly caught on. “So you agree with me?”
Jian Fan nodded.
Qin Nan immediately brightened at that, but he still made one request of Jian Fan. “Could you try putting a little emotion into your voice when you talk from now on?” With that calm face and icy tone of his, Qin Nan had been absolutely sure Jian Fan was mocking him.
Qin Weiyi let out a laugh.
But very quickly, he looked toward Jian Fan. “You think what Qin Nan suggested is feasible?”
“A last resort is still a resort,” Jian Fan replied.
Qin Nan’s burst of happiness instantly deflated. So Jian Fan hadn’t actually agreed with him. He just thought it didn’t matter either way.
Lu Jing, however, frowned. “But firing a gun might draw that group of Rabbit over.”
The method was honestly absurd. If there were no consequences, then there would be no harm in trying. But if it brought the Rabbit over, it would endanger their lives. In that case-should they still try?
“Try it,” Jian Fan said, giving them the answer when no one else spoke.
“Qin Nan was right about one thing. We have no way to make contact ourselves, so we have to rely on something external,” Jian Fan said. As he spoke, his gaze had already fallen on the Sniper Rifle on Lu Jing’s back. He continued, “Right now, can any of you think of a method that reaches farther than a bullet and still has enough impact?”
No.
Qin Weiyi sank into thought.
Qi Shuping was also thinking it over.
When the idea had come from Qin Nan, it had sounded like some ridiculous scheme from a teenage edgelord. But after Jian Fan said it, everyone fell silent in contemplation.
“Let’s try it,” Qin Weiyi said heavily as he looked at the Fire-tinged clouds on the horizon.
Time was passing. Once the Fire-tinged clouds disappeared, they would miss this chance, and the next opportunity would not come until tomorrow.
Lu Jing listened to Qin Weiyi. Since Qin Weiyi had spoken, he immediately set down the things in his hands and picked up the Sniper Rifle. “Then I’ll give it a try?”
Qin Weiyi nodded.
Qi Shuping also sighed and nodded. “Let’s try it.”
Since several of the Big Shot figures had spoken, the others naturally had no objections.
Lu Jing raised the Sniper Rifle and aimed it at the Fire-tinged clouds.
In truth, there was no real need to aim. The Fire-tinged clouds covered a huge stretch of sky. Unless Lu Jing was blind, there was no way he would miss.
The target was not the problem. Whether the bullet could actually reach it-that was the big question.
Lu Jing held his breath. Then-
“Bang.”
A single shot rang out, and the horizon remained utterly still.
Everyone looked toward the distant sky with anticipation. After nothing happened, disappointment inevitably crept into their hearts.
Qin Nan sighed. “Looks like I really was overthinking it.”
Qin Weiyi quickly composed himself and smiled. “It’s not as if we discovered nothing. We’ll come back tomorrow. Lu Jing fired a shot, so if there are Rabbit nearby, they may be drawn over. We should leave this place first.”
They had not yet reached the hiding place they had chosen, which was one of the reasons Qin Weiyi had dared to let Lu Jing fire.
By the time those Rabbit heard the gunshot and rushed over, they would already be gone.
This mountaintop was not small, nor was it easy to search. Especially now, with night about to fall, finding them in the darkness would be even harder.
Lu Jing put the Sniper Rifle back behind him and crouched down to pick up the dirt he had placed on the ground. But the moment he lifted it, his expression changed sharply.
“Something’s happening,” Lu Jing said in a low voice. As he spoke, he had already tossed the things in his hands back onto the ground and brought the Sniper Rifle up, standing guard as he scanned their surroundings.
No one would ever doubt Lu Jing’s vigilance.
Everyone immediately went on high alert.
As Lu Jing carefully scanned their surroundings, he pointed Qin Weiyi in a certain direction.
Qin Weiyi understood at once.
There were some rocks over there. They could use them to hide for the moment.
But before Qin Weiyi’s group could take cover, the other side seemed to run out of patience.
Lu Jing was the first to notice. He immediately rolled to the side and shouted at Qin Weiyi, “Get down!”
Once was unfamiliar; twice was routine.
Qin Weiyi’s group dropped flat almost instantly. They were already close to the rocks, and almost the second they hit the ground, they rolled several times straight into cover, successfully reaching the hiding spot.
Only Lu Jing was left outside.
The enemy had clearly realized it would be difficult to go after Qin Weiyi’s group now, so they all switched targets and aimed at Lu Jing.
After rolling several times, Lu Jing brought up his Sniper Rifle and fired several shots at the people opposite him. Once his bullets ran out, he quickly ducked behind a rock and reloaded.
When it came to combat ability, no one could deny Lu Jing.
But no matter how capable Lu Jing was, the other side had the advantage in numbers and opened fire on him all at once.
Lu Jing dodged once, twice, but in the end, he could not avoid everything. The only fortunate thing was that the bullet struck his leg. For now, at least, it was not life-threatening.
But the moment Lu Jing was wounded, the situation became especially dangerous.
Qin Weiyi’s heart leaped into his throat. Yet at this moment, there was nothing he could do to help.
Although Lu Jing was injured, he still forced himself to focus and kept exchanging fire with the enemy. The other side was in far worse shape than he was. He had indeed been hurt, but he had also shot several of them dead.
After firing his last bullet, Lu Jing felt his pocket and immediately shouted toward Qin Weiyi, “Xiao Qin, bullets!”
Qin Weiyi snapped back to himself and hurriedly set down the backpack, fumbling in a panic for the zipper. Seeing him like that, Qin Nan simply snatched it away. Before Qin Weiyi could even react, Qin Nan stood up and threw it in Lu Jing’s direction.
Right now, the enemy’s attention was fixed on Lu Jing, and no guns were pointed toward Qin Nan and the others.
After throwing the backpack, Qin Nan quickly dropped back down.
With bullets in hand, Lu Jing once again exchanged fire with the enemy.
Gunshots rang across the entire mountainside. At the same time, besides the enemies already here, the sound of gunfire also drew in the enemies in the surrounding area.
Lu Jing had finally managed to kill most of the group trading fire with him, but immediately after, another batch of people suddenly arrived from behind. Even Lu Jing felt a trace of helplessness at that moment.
He was alone, and injured, while the enemies kept coming in an endless stream.
And once he died, no one behind him would survive. Were they really going to die here?
Qin Nan’s group soon realized this as well.
“More enemies are coming,” Qin Nan said in a low voice. He began to feel a little regretful. “I shouldn’t have suggested that.”
If they had not fired that shot, perhaps the enemies would not have discovered them.
Qin Weiyi gave a bitter laugh and said, “They appeared so quickly. Even without that gunshot, they would have found us sooner or later.”
“I dragged all of you into this,” Qi Shuping said with a sigh.
If not for him, their group would never have encountered a world so maliciously targeted against them. Deserted Island Survival was one thing, but making a group like them face a gunfight-wasn’t that just outright bullying?
“It isn’t over yet,” Jian Fan suddenly said at that moment.
