Chapter 97
Chapter 97
Qin Nan woke up early.
The tent was small, and Qin Nan had been curled up all night, feeling quite uncomfortable. Now that he was awake, he decided to head out and stretch his legs.
Qin Nan’s movements weren’t loud, but Lu Jing still opened his eyes almost instantly.
Qin Nan hadn’t expected to be met with Lu Jing’s wary gaze the moment he stepped out. He gave the man a wave. “Morning.”
“Morning,” Lu Jing replied.
The sun was coming up, and the temperature on the beach was rising. The nocturnal chill had completely dissipated.
Qin Nan stowed his down jacket in the corner of the tent and then stretched his limbs. Once he felt more limber, he walked down to the water’s edge, splashing some seawater on his face to wake himself up.
Qin Nan didn’t leave immediately. Instead, he remained half-squatted by the shore, taking in the ocean view.
Though it was a Death Game, he had to admit the scenery of this island was actually quite nice.
Qin Nan chuckled at the sudden thought. He let out a small laugh, shaking the water off his hands as he prepared to stand up. But at that moment, his gaze caught something out on the water, and he froze.
He didn’t freeze for long.
A few seconds later, he snapped out of it, lunging backward with a large leap and shouting a timely, “Holy crap!”
Lu Jing, who had just closed his eyes again, snapped them back open. Seeing Qin Nan standing by the water’s edge, he thought for a moment before standing up and walking over.
“What’s wrong?” Lu Jing asked as he reached Qin Nan’s side.
Qin Nan pointed toward the sea. “Lu Jing, look. What on earth is that?”
Lu Jing followed his gaze.
In the seawater, under the sunlight, green bubbles were currently emerging bit by bit. As the wind blew across the sea, those green bubbles were washed onto the shore, and then…
Lu Jing’s eyes narrowed sharply.
The moment those green bubbles touched the sand, they began to expand across the surrounding area with lightning speed.
“Run!” Lu Jing barked, grabbing Qin Nan.
“Everyone get up! Run!”
Lu Jing shouted as he dragged Qin Nan back toward the camp.
Movement quickly stirred from within the tents.
Jian Fan had already been awake when Qin Nan got up, and he was the fastest to react. Seeing Qin Nan and Lu Jing sprinting back with a strange, unrecognizable green substance trailing behind them, Jian Fan grabbed his down jacket and headed out.
Before leaving, however, his peripheral vision caught something in the corner, and he leaned down again.
Jian Fan ran toward the interior of the island, clutching two down jackets.
Once Lu Jing pulled Qin Nan back to the tent area, he let go and charged straight for the Military Box, shouting toward Qin Weiyi’s tent, “Xiao Qin, something’s happened! Evacuate now!”
Qin Weiyi had just woken up. Wrapped in his down jacket, he emerged from the tent, rubbing his eyes groggily.
Lu Jing grabbed several boxes of ammunition and tossed them directly into the hood of Qin Weiyi’s jacket. Then, he hooked one arm under Qin Weiyi’s knees to scoop him up while slinging the Sniper Rifle over his other shoulder, continuing his dash inland.
The others were all emerging from their tents now.
Seeing the situation, their expressions shifted drastically. Though they didn’t know what was happening, they immediately followed Lu Jing and ran.
The green bubbles were spreading rapidly-far faster than they could run.
Qin Nan scanned their surroundings as he ran. To their front-right, there was a rocky area with layered stones, roughly half a person’s height higher than the beach. It was about ten-plus square meters in size, enough to accommodate all twelve of them.
He made an immediate decision and shouted to Lu Jing, “Run to the rocks!”
The green bubbles were in the seawater, but they only began to spread rapidly upon contact with the sand. It was highly likely that the sand was the medium for the bubbles’ transmission. Lu Jing could only hope that the spread was limited to the sand.
This way, as long as they stayed on the rocks, they should be able to escape the disaster.
If even the rocks could transmit it, then at their current speed, it would be impossible to outrun the green bubbles.
Lu Jing complied immediately. The others didn’t have a clear grasp of the situation yet, but since Qin Nan was the first to discover the danger, they had no choice but to trust him for once.
Lu Jing was the first to arrive.
After stepping onto the rocks, he turned back to look at the beach.
The green bubbles had already submerged the area where they had pitched their tents. Now, as the bubbles spread over them, the tents were slowly melting away. At this point, only a corner of one was left.
Qin Nan and Jian Fan followed close behind.
The two of them were so exhausted they collapsed onto the rocks to catch their breath. But before they could even finish their first gasp, they saw the tip of the tent completely dissolve into the green bubbles.
Qin Nan’s breath hitched halfway through. It took him a good while to snap out of it, coughing violently as he finally managed to draw air back into his lungs.
“What the hell is that?” Qin Nan looked terrified. Then, remembering he had just washed his face with seawater, he quickly reached up to feel his face.
Sensing nothing unusual, he turned to Jian Fan and asked, “Is there something wrong with my face?”
Jian Fan frowned.
Seeing this, Qin Nan panicked. “What is it? What’s wrong with my face?”
“What are you freaking out for?” Jian Fan asked, sounding somewhat exasperated.
Hearing Jian Fan’s familiar tone, Qin Nan felt a wave of relief, but he still asked uneasily, “My face… it’s okay, right?”
“It’s fine,” Jian Fan replied, then added, “What did you do this time?”
Qin Nan looked like he was about to cry. “I washed my face with seawater.”
There had clearly been no problem when he was washing it, so why did this unknown substance suddenly appear right after he finished?
Qin Nan felt miserable. Wasn’t this just bullying him because he was a clueless newcomer? He was the one who had drunk human blood, and now he had washed his face with this mysterious seawater.
Even if this wasn’t his own body, Qin Nan still felt a deep sense of revulsion.
Jian Fan looked at Qin Nan, momentarily speechless. But seeing how worried the man was, he thought for a moment and offered a word of comfort: “Newcomers usually have pretty good luck. You might even find a blessing in disguise.”
Qin Nan’s smile looked more like a grimace. “I’ll take your word for it, then.”
Though he was still worried, his face seemed fine for now, so Qin Nan pulled his thoughts back to the present.
The other Players were also running toward them.
Yellow Hair and Orange Hair reached the rocky area and began panting with their heads down. The others were getting closer, but the green bubbles were closing the distance just as fast.
Qi Shuping was running at the very back.
Qi Shuping might have had better stamina than some, but her explosive speed was nowhere near that of the younger people.
The green bubbles were already extremely close to her.
Jian Fan suddenly stood up. He had already taken a step forward when he caught himself. He turned to Lu Jing. “Lu Jing!”
Qin Weiyi glanced at Jian Fan before finally speaking to Lu Jing. “Don’t push yourself too hard.”
Lu Jing set Qin Weiyi down. “Understood. I’ll do my best.” With that, he charged toward Qi Shuping.
Xu Tian was a short distance ahead of Qi Shuping. When she saw Lu Jing charging toward them, she suddenly stopped. She watched as the distance between her and Lu Jing closed, then she abruptly turned her head to look at Qi Shuping trailing behind her.
Jian Fan noticed Xu Tian’s strange behavior, and his heart leaped into his throat.
“Xu Tian!” Jian Fan shouted with sudden, fierce intensity.
