Chapter 122
Chapter 122
After a brief discussion, the group arrived at several possibilities, but they currently lacked any definitive clues.
By the afternoon, the Green Bubbles had receded. The group began packing their things, preparing to head out and continue their exploration. Lu Jing and Yellow Hair had also woken up one after the other during this time.
They tidied up their belongings.
They still intended to return here to rest at night, but fearing any unforeseen accidents, they decided to carry their Military Overcoats and Down Jackets with them. All they left behind in the Cave were some grass and branches they had gathered nearby.
Once everything was packed, the group quickly departed from the Cave.
This time, they chose to double back.
They were going to look for that Unknown Fruit.
Lu Jing had a rough memory of the way back, so they didn’t take any wrong turns.
However, the conversation they’d had in the Cave not long ago kept flashing through Jian Fan’s mind.
Including what Lin Junruo had said.
Jian Fan looked up at the sky.
It was a clear day with no clouds in sight-the kind of beautiful sky that would look stunning in a photograph.
There didn’t seem to be anything strange about it. *I’ll check again tonight,* Jian Fan thought.
With Lu Jing leading the way, they moved quickly and encountered no danger. Soon, they arrived before the tree bearing the Unknown Fruit.
They had found the tree, but Lu Jing didn’t know what to do next.
He turned to look at Qin Weiyi. “Xiao Qin, do we just pick them?”
That was a good question.
Qin Weiyi frowned, pondering the same thing.
If this fruit was a mutated variety, he couldn’t rule out the possibility that the skin itself was poisonous. In the Realm of Death, such a thing wasn’t particularly rare.
Lin Junruo thought for a moment and fished a few plastic bags out of her clothes.
“Um… how about we wrap them up?” Lin Junruo offered, handing over the bags.
It was their only option.
They had to pick the fruit; otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to figure anything out, and how would they ever leave this world? Still, it was better to be cautious, and Lin Junruo’s plastic bags were useful for that.
Qin Weiyi took the bags and looked up at the fruit on the tree.
“Can you knock them down?” Qin Weiyi asked suddenly.
To be honest, Qin Weiyi didn’t want Lu Jing touching a tree that might be problematic.
Lu Jing estimated the height and nodded. Without needing further instruction, he immediately picked up a small stone from the ground, weighed it in his hand, and threw it at the tree.
Lu Jing’s aim was excellent.
A single stone sent several pieces of Red Fruit tumbling down.
Qin Weiyi layered several plastic bags over his hand before stepping forward to pick them up.
It was a type of fruit he had never seen before. It was a vibrant red, small, long, and thin. The outer surface of the fruit was covered in dense, wrinkled textures.
“What on earth is this? Is there anything in the real world that looks like this fruit?” Yellow Hair was the first to voice his confusion.
If the Rabbit was a Mutation, then this fruit must have mutated from a normal fruit as well, right?
No one could answer Yellow Hair’s question.
Lu Jing leaned in to take a look and chuckled. “This size… it’s just like a bullet.”
No one took Lu Jing’s words seriously, but Jian Fan glanced at the gun Lu Jing was carrying and then at the size of the fruit. Honestly, they really were quite similar.
“What can this fruit be used for?” Lin Junruo asked.
Qin Weiyi shook his head. “I have no idea for now. Let’s just put it away first.”
As he spoke, he wrapped the fruit in a plastic bag. He then asked Lin Junruo for a few more bags, layering them over the first one before finally tying a knot and placing it in his backpack.
“Let’s go look for supplies,” Qin Weiyi continued.
No one objected.
They still had no clue what the fruit was for, and standing around here wouldn’t help matters.
Besides, their situation wasn’t great. Their biscuits were almost gone, and they didn’t have much water left. They had to find new food and water.
Resources on the Deserted Island were truly limited. Aside from the bananas and coconuts they had first discovered, there seemed to be nothing else edible on the island. The group circled around but still came up empty-handed.
If there was nothing edible on the Deserted Island, their only hope lay with the Airdrops.
To be honest, knowing that the entire island had been attacked by the Green Bubbles made eating anything found here feel a bit unsettling. A Military Box from an Airdrop would be much better.
Unfortunately, these military boxes were proving extremely difficult to find.
After working through most of the afternoon, they still had nothing to show for it. If this continued, they would likely go hungry tonight.
They could endure one night, but the fear was that they might never find food.
That was a truly headache-inducing prospect.
Seeing that it was getting later and the sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, Lu Jing made a decisive call: “Back to the Cave.”
Walking in the dark was far more dangerous for them. Going hungry wouldn’t kill them, but wandering around outside very well might. For now, with their supplies running low, the Cave remained their best option.
With no other choice, the group turned back toward the Cave.
By the time they neared it, night had fully descended.
Jian Fan instinctively looked up at the Starry Sky above them.
In the night sky, stars twinkled alongside a crescent moon.
It was a breathtaking Starry Sky, the kind that truly couldn’t be seen in reality.
It was beautiful, yet if one were to say it was fake, it didn’t quite look it-at least, Jian Fan couldn’t spot anything strange about it.
Qin Nan was the first to notice Jian Fan’s movements, and he also looked up at the Starry Sky.
It was beautiful, but unfortunately, he was in no mood to appreciate it.
“Find anything?” Qin Nan asked.
Jian Fan shook his head.
Lin Junruo was looking too. She was the one who had brought this up, but unfortunately, even though she stared at the Starry Sky until her eyes ached, she couldn’t see anything wrong with it.
“Maybe the Starry Sky here is just exceptionally pretty,” Mu Xin said, not having pinned much hope on it. Her mindset was relatively calm.
Lin Junruo, however, felt a bit discouraged.
The point she had raised was proving useless. It seemed she would have to try harder.
“Let’s go back and rest first,” Qin Nan sighed, patting Jian Fan on the shoulder.
Jian Fan was still staring at the Starry Sky.
It seemed fine, but he felt something was off. Unfortunately, he couldn’t put his finger on it at the moment and could only set the matter aside for now.
The group returned to the Cave once more.
After walking for so long, their physical strength was depleted. Everyone was exhausted; almost as soon as they entered the Cave, they either lay down or sat on the piles of grass.
They hadn’t eaten for a while, so they weren’t just tired-they were hungry and thirsty too. But they understood that nighttime was not a good time for action. There was nothing they could do now but try to sleep.
Once they were asleep, the hunger would feel less intense.
Fortunately, skipping one meal wouldn’t kill them.
