Chapter 199
Chapter 199
Mu Xin pressed her entire body against the door.
She didn’t dare make the slightest sound. Holding her breath, she listened for movement outside.
Before long, footsteps sounded.
Mu Xin’s heart leaped into her throat. Although she believed she could use words to stop him, she couldn’t help feeling nervous.
The other person circled around outside. He didn’t go far before quickly doubling back to the row of rooms.
First, he opened the door to the room ahead and glanced inside. Seeing no one, he continued forward.
Soon, he arrived at the room Mu Xin was in.
Mu Xin had locked the door, so of course he couldn’t open it. But that also told him, without a doubt, that there was something wrong with this room.
The man stood at the door and laughed. “Found you.”
He pushed at the door with his hand, then swept his gaze around and dragged several chairs out from the room next door. Lifting one at random, he brought it down hard against the door.
Bang.
This was an abandoned villa to begin with, and the doors were no longer very sturdy. Under that blow, the door actually shook slightly.
Mu Xin cursed inwardly. Damn it. She had actually overlooked that.
The other party clearly intended to use her as experience points, while her skill was still on cooldown. This door wouldn’t hold for long, either. She couldn’t just sit here and wait for death.
Trying to bluff him with words was, in the end, the worst option.
Mu Xin’s eyes began sweeping rapidly around the room.
It was a guest room.
Whether Mu Xin was just unbelievably lucky or not, there was a plate of fruit on the table, with a fruit knife lying on it.
Mu Xin stepped forward and picked up the fruit knife, but that wasn’t nearly enough. A single fruit knife couldn’t instantly kill a normal man. She had to do something more.
Her gaze moved around the area again before landing on the ceramic vase by the window.
With the fruit knife in one hand, she picked up the ceramic vase with the other.
Then she returned to the door.
She slipped the sheath back onto the fruit knife and wedged it against her pants, hanging it at her waist. Then she gripped the vase with both hands.
Bang.
The man was still smashing the chair against the door over and over.
When the fifth chair broke, the locked door finally tilted crookedly and collapsed to one side.
The man didn’t think twice before immediately walking in.
What he didn’t know was that Mu Xin had already raised the vase high and was hiding beside the door. The instant he stepped inside, Mu Xin used every ounce of strength she had and smashed the vase down at him.
Mu Xin wasn’t tall enough. She had originally meant to hit him on the head, but instead, she smashed it right into his face.
Although she had misjudged the angle, it didn’t affect the result.
The blow left him stunned for an instant. At that very moment, Mu Xin had already pulled out the fruit knife and quickly stabbed it into the man’s stomach, again and again.
The man’s face had been smashed so badly he couldn’t even open his eyes. Blood covered them, and pain kept tearing through his abdomen. With the last of his strength, he shoved Mu Xin away.
Mu Xin was pushed back and fell straight to the floor. The pain made her let out a small hiss.
But the man was in a much worse state than she was.
He seemed to want to step forward and do something, but before he could take even one step, the pain in his stomach instantly drained the color from his face. His whole body bent over. When Mu Xin saw that, how could she let the chance go? She immediately got up, rushed at him, and drove the fruit knife into him several more times.
The man never imagined, even in death, that he would end up dying at the hands of a yellow-haired young woman.
Only after the man had completely stopped breathing did Mu Xin collapse to the floor as if all her strength had left her. The fruit knife fell to the ground with her.
She was scared.
This was the first time she had ever killed someone.
Although she had survived, she still couldn’t stop her body from trembling slightly.
But Mu Xin’s attention was quickly diverted.
“Ding! Congratulations, Player, you have obtained one SR-Rank Character Card. Your current Character Card rank is SR. Remaining cards: one R-Rank Character Card.”
Mu Xin froze.
So killing someone and taking their card really could make it rank up?
Everything she’d said earlier had been complete nonsense she’d made up to scare him. She had only used the bits of information she already knew, never expecting to stumble onto the truth by pure accident.
Still, she hadn’t been entirely right.
Although her card had ranked up, her own abilities hadn’t actually gotten any stronger. Her skill was still the same skill; nothing about it had changed. But if cards could rank up, then once it reached SSR… Could it be that they really had to reach SSR before they could leave?
Kill one person, get one R-Rank Character Card, add it to her own, and two R-Rank Character Cards would rank up into SR. Then to go from SR to SSR, she would need at least two SR cards. In other words, four cards total.
But later on, the difficulty would probably only increase. It might even require three SR cards, which would mean six lives.
Mu Xin couldn’t hold back a curse.
Even if she had already killed someone, that had only been because the other person had attacked her first. Besides, the remaining people included Jian Fan and the others, who were her teammates. How could she possibly raise a hand against her own teammates?
Mu Xin did not hesitate in the slightest.
Even though she currently held the advantage, this was absolutely not the path she would take. She would never do what the Realm of Death wanted. There had to be some other way to break this world.
Mu Xin picked up the fruit knife nearby, then climbed up from the floor.
She had to go find Qin Nan and the others.
And just as Mu Xin pulled herself together, on the first floor-
After Qin Nan saw the message on WeChat, he froze for a moment, then looked up at everyone in confusion. “Someone died.”
“Who?” Qin Weiyi immediately frowned and asked.
Qin Nan shook his head.
Little Princess hadn’t said.
But the six of them were safe and sound. Of the other six, it probably wasn’t Xia Zeqin. Among the three newly matched teammates, the woman looked like someone who shouldn’t be messed with at first glance, while the two men were probably companions. That left Mu Xin and Shi Chen.
Lin Junruo’s expression changed.
No matter how smart Mu Xin was, when it came to sheer combat ability, she had no room to struggle at all.
Qin Weiyi thought for a moment, then looked at Jian Fan and said, “How about we keep working together?”
Jian Fan raised his head and looked at Qin Weiyi without saying anything.
“According to what this Little Princess said, only one person can leave in the end. It’s true that there isn’t much trust between me and you guys. But Lu Jing and I would never abandon each other, so the method Little Princess mentioned doesn’t work for us. Lu Jing and I have to find another way out, and it’s the same for you and Qin Nan.”
Qin Weiyi immediately began trying to persuade Jian Fan.
Indeed, when he had first heard the news, Qin Weiyi’s first thought had been to split up.
He could guarantee that he wouldn’t attack them, because there was no way he would give up on Lu Jing. To him, killing his companions was undoubtedly impossible. But he couldn’t guarantee whether Jian Fan truly cared about Qin Nan’s life or death.
Keeping away from all potential dangers was still a decent method when they didn’t understand this world thoroughly enough.
But now, things had changed.
The killing had already begun. If they were still here fighting among themselves and acting alone, then in the end, the only people left might very well be enemies who were determined to kill their companions in order to escape this world.
Jian Fan looked at Qin Weiyi.
Yellow Hair and Lin Junruo were also waiting for Jian Fan’s answer.
They knew exactly what they were capable of. If only one person could survive, it would never be them. So for them, they hoped this team could continue. And now that Qin Weiyi had extended an olive branch, the decision fell to Jian Fan.
As for Jian Fan-
Everyone was looking at Jian Fan, including Qin Nan.
