Chapter 276
Chapter 276
“None of our scores are low,” Jian Fan said.
Aside from Yellow Hair, who had yet to reach five thousand, everyone in their group had at least five thousand Points.
Qin Weiyi was beginning to feel a headache coming on as well. “Given our current situation, having too many Points isn’t necessarily a good thing for us.”
Take this fairy-tale world, for example. They had all cleared it in the end, but only because Jian Fan had thought fast.
Without Jian Fan’s last-minute maneuver, Qin Weiyi was certain that Lin Junruo, Lu Jing, and he himself probably wouldn’t have completed their tasks. And that would have meant death.
Even if they had all been lucky enough to obtain a remnant page, the fragments would still have been incomplete without their cooperation with Yang Zhen and the others. Learning the full story would have been nothing more than a pipe dream.
With only part of the information, uncovering the final truth would have come down to sheer luck.
Even as it was, Qin Weiyi, Shi Chen, and Lu Jing had all been forced to spend Points at the very beginning just to stay alive.
This time, Jian Fan had been there to lead them, and luck had also been on their side: they had drawn a scenario that required cooperation. Total cooperation might seem unthinkable in the Realm of Death, but thanks to the various connections among them, they had actually managed to pull it off.
But what about next time?
Qin Weiyi didn’t believe they could keep getting this lucky.
A sense of foreboding weighed on the others as well.
They had originally planned to save up Points so they could leave the Realm of Death as soon as possible. But now it seemed that the more Points they accumulated, the closer they might be getting to death.
For a moment, a heavy silence settled over the room.
It was then that Jian Fan suddenly received a request from Zhou Jingying to enter.
He was surprised.
His first instinct was to reject it, but after a moment, he changed his mind and spoke up. “Zhou Jingying has requested to enter.”
“Zhou Jingying?” Qin Weiyi was taken aback.
It was obvious to everyone that they were a group, while Zhou Jingying…
“She’s used to navigating that sort of social circle, so she probably isn’t too concerned with saving face. If she thinks approaching us might benefit her, there’s no harm in giving it a try,” Qin Nan said.
The others understood what he meant.
“Zhou Jingying is a decent person,” Jian Fan said, offering his assessment.
Qin Weiyi nodded as well. “She saved Lu Jing and me in the last world. I don’t object to letting her join. I can consider it repaying the favor.”
“Either way is fine with me,” Qin Nan said.
Yellow Hair laughed. “I shamelessly latched on to this group myself. I don’t get a vote.”
“Um… neither do I.” Lin Junruo silently raised her hand.
Like Yellow Hair, she wasn’t really in a position to voice an opinion.
Mu Xin frowned slightly.
“I have nothing against her. It would naturally be best if we could work together, but we still don’t know her that well,” Mu Xin said.
Jian Fan nodded. “That’s true, but there’s no harm in telling her about the Points.”
Mu Xin understood.
The more people who knew about this, the more cautiously they would act. That was bound to be bad news for the Realm of Death, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt them.
Qin Nan added, “Someone like her knows how to read the room.”
In other words, if they reached a topic that couldn’t be discussed in front of Zhou Jingying, she would know when to excuse herself instead of making things awkward.
Hearing that, Mu Xin nodded. “In that case, I have no objections.”
Since everyone agreed, Jian Fan didn’t hesitate any longer and accepted the request.
Standing outside the door, Zhou Jingying was actually rather nervous.
There had been neither a rejection nor an acceptance from inside, and the wait felt interminable.
In that short span of time, countless thoughts had already raced through Zhou Jingying’s mind. Fortunately, her request was accepted in the end.
As soon as Zhou Jingying entered, Mu Xin asked her, “How many Points do you have?”
Zhou Jingying stared at her in confusion.
She had no idea why Mu Xin was asking, but everyone else was looking at her as if they were waiting for an answer. After thinking for a moment, Zhou Jingying said, “Around three thousand.”
She only gave them a rough figure.
It wasn’t a particularly high number.
“Then you’re pretty safe,” Yellow Hair said.
Zhou Jingying was even more confused.
What did he mean by that?
The others clearly had no intention of wasting time explaining it to her.
“All of us cleared this world, so it’ll still be the same group in the next one. There are a few things we can start planning in advance,” Qin Weiyi said.
Jian Fan agreed.
“Having a fixed group means fewer unknown variables. In the next world, we might be able to try it,” Jian Fan said.
Try what?
Zhou Jingying felt as though she’d only arrived a little late, yet somehow missed a great deal of crucial information.
Still, she wasn’t the only one who didn’t understand.
Lu Jing also asked, “Try what?”
“Try controlling our Points,” Jian Fan replied.
Qin Weiyi nodded. “To put it bluntly, Jian Fan is the only one among us currently capable of handling what lies ahead. He’d be fine on his own, but bringing all of us along would make things much more difficult.”
Zhou Jingying was utterly baffled.
What in the world were these people talking about?
Qin Weiyi looked at Jian Fan again and asked, “What level do you think you can handle right now?”
Jian Fan considered it. “Around nine thousand Points shouldn’t be a problem.”
“So you’ll only get stuck in the last one or two worlds?” Qin Nan asked sourly from the side.
At Jian Fan’s level, getting out was just a matter of putting in one final push, wasn’t it? As for Qin Nan himself… Forget it. Comparing yourself to others would only drive you mad.
“The last few worlds might drain my Points,” Jian Fan said.
Just as they had with Qi Shuping. Toward the end, even if the Realm of Death couldn’t kill her, it would still do everything it could to make her spend her Points.
Qi Shuping had only managed to save up ten thousand Points because she’d gotten lucky and met Jian Fan and Qin Weiyi. Otherwise, there was no telling how many times she would have died by now. But Jian Fan…
Qin Weiyi suddenly frowned.
Although Qi Shuping was a Big Shot and Jian Fan was her junior, after interacting with both of them, Qin Weiyi believed Jian Fan was more capable than Qi Shuping. Even if he hadn’t been sure of that before, the Jian Fan he saw now…
Qin Weiyi felt that Jian Fan might actually be able to make a run for ten thousand Points.
Jian Fan had no need to form a team at all. He should have a chance of reaching ten thousand Points on his own.
So why was he recruiting people now?
Did he just want to make absolutely certain?
No. Qin Weiyi didn’t think Jian Fan was excessively cautious. Most likely, there was another factor they knew nothing about.
There might be another layer of danger hidden within the Realm of Death, one Jian Fan had no intention of telling anyone about, including Qin Nan.
At that thought, Qin Weiyi glanced at Jian Fan.
He chose not to say anything.
Whatever Jian Fan had learned, he’d learned it from the Realm of Death. If Jian Fan could discover it, then Qin Weiyi would find out sooner or later as well.
“Then how many Points do you think we should have right now?” Mu Xin asked, getting to the question she cared about most.
Now that Qin Weiyi and Lu Jing had spent some of their Points, she had the highest total apart from Jian Fan.
Remembering how Qin Weiyi had nearly died at the very start despite having over seven thousand Points, Mu Xin felt a chill run down her spine. She wanted as much of a safety margin as she could get.
