Chapter 280
Chapter 280
The group finally grew animated when they saw the whip appear out of thin air in Lu Jing’s hand.
“You exchanged Points for a whip?” Yellow Hair asked in surprise.
He didn’t need to exchange his own weapon, but he had browsed everything in the Points Mall. Compared to Time Rewind, which only cost 100 Points, this utterly ordinary-looking whip cost a whopping 300 Points. It was a complete rip-off.
“Yeah. Xiao Qin told me to get it,” Lu Jing said.
“If it’s priced that high, there must be a reason,” Qin Nan said.
Lu Jing nodded and gave the whip a few casual swings. “It handles pretty well.” As he spoke, he coiled the whip and wrapped it around his waist.
“I think it’s a good choice. Once you start swinging that thing, I doubt anyone will be able to get close to us,” Qin Nan joked with a smile.
Lu Jing chuckled, then asked, “Xiao Qin, should I exchange for anything else?”
There were plenty of items available, but some of their descriptions were so bizarre that it was hard to tell whether they would ever come in handy. Qin Weiyi thought for a moment before saying, “Get some of those flowers that increase friendship levels.”
Lu Jing took a look and immediately exchanged for ten, spending 500 Points. That left him with 6,100 Points.
Since Qin Weiyi couldn’t think of anything else worth getting, he didn’t ask Lu Jing to exchange for more. They could always decide later.
Mu Xin had also finished making her exchange.
She had chosen a hat.
A beautiful ladies’ hat with a peculiar effect that the Player must discover independently. Exchange limit: one. Cost: 800 Points.
Mu Xin hadn’t known what to choose, but the hat was simply too pretty. Her desire to look good won out, and besides, she had a feeling that an item with such a vague description couldn’t be simple. And so, she exchanged for it.
Everyone had spent at least some of their Points.
Although they couldn’t be certain yet, they all had the same suspicion.
The Realm of Death updated its assessment of their Points in real time. Now that they had spent some and lowered their totals, the Realm of Death should target them less aggressively. If their theory was correct, the situation they faced should be a little easier now.
Of course, if they were wrong and the Realm of Death judged them according to how many Points they had possessed upon entering this world… then all they could do was pray for the best.
“Let’s go,” Jian Fan said.
But before Jian Fan or anyone else could move, Xia Zeqin set off first.
He had been standing silently to one side the entire time. The moment Jian Fan spoke, he strode toward the town without hesitation.
Fang Kang followed close behind him.
Only then did Jian Fan and the others follow in pairs.
They hadn’t noticed anything while standing at the town’s entrance, but the moment they stepped inside, wave after wave of chilly wind struck their faces.
Yellow Hair shuddered several times and rubbed his arms. “Why does this place feel so creepy?”
It was broad daylight, with the sun still hanging overhead, yet an involuntary chill crept through him.
Lin Junruo edged closer to Mu Xin and said timidly, “I feel it too. This place is giving me the creeps.”
Mu Xin wasn’t faring much better. She simply didn’t say anything. Instead, the two girls huddled together for comfort.
Yang Zhen rolled her eyes helplessly at the two girls ahead, who were practically clinging to each other. She reached forward and grabbed one at random. Since Mu Xin happened to be standing directly in front of her, Yang Zhen pulled her to her side. Just as she was about to say something to Yellow Hair, a piercing scream tore through her eardrums.
“Ah!”
“Help!”
“Ah! So scary!”
“…”
Yang Zhen was startled, then looked speechlessly at Mu Xin, who was in her grasp, eyes squeezed shut, flailing her arms and legs, occasionally letting out cries for help. Lin Junruo wasn’t much better either; when the person beside her was suddenly pulled away, she jumped and immediately started screaming.
The others, who had been walking ahead, all stopped.
At first, they thought something had happened, but when they turned to look, everyone fell silent.
“What are you screaming about?” Yang Zhen reached up and pressed her brow, feeling a headache coming on.
Yellow Hair stepped forward, grabbed Lin Junruo’s wrist, and tried to comfort her: “Lin Junruo, snap out of it. It’s nothing.”
Lin Junruo, hearing Yellow Hair’s voice, actually paused, then calmed down. Mu Xin also gradually stopped moving, opened her eyes, and looked over.
When they realized nothing had happened, both Mu Xin and Lin Junruo looked embarrassed.
They wanted the ground to swallow them whole.
Utterly mortifying.
The two of them were just too scared. There was nothing there, but their hearts were pounding with fear. And Yang Zhen had acted suddenly, without warning, so it wasn’t surprising that the two girls were startled.
“Why did you pull me all of a sudden?” Mu Xin said weakly.
Yang Zhen: “…”
“Since you two were about to die of fright, let’s rearrange. You walk with me, and let Yellow Hair walk with her.” Yang Zhen indicated Lin Junruo with her chin.
Mu Xin hadn’t expected Yang Zhen to be trying to be kind, which made her even more embarrassed.
“Um… sorry about that.” Mu Xin apologized, then added, “Thank you.”
This little incident was quickly over.
Mu Xin and Yellow Hair swapped places, and the group set off again.
“Strange. Is there really no one here?” Qin Nan scanned the surroundings. The houses on this street didn’t look abandoned or dilapidated; they seemed to be inhabited. But even with Mu Xin and Lin Junruo screaming like that, no one came out. That meant there was probably no one nearby, which was odd.
Jian Fan frowned as well.
This world wouldn’t be simple, and even though nothing seemed to happen at the moment, like the others, Jian Fan felt uneasy. He couldn’t afford to let his guard down.
“Be careful,” Jian Fan reminded.
Qin Nan nodded.
The group continued forward.
The road they were on could be considered the main road. Along the way, they saw some alleys, but Jian Fan had no intention of exploring those alleys for now, so the group kept walking straight down the main road.
This instance was probably set in this town, but a town was certainly not small.
Before they knew it, more than half an hour had passed, and Jian Fan’s group was still walking on the main road.
They hadn’t encountered a single NPC, no living creature at all.
The unease in everyone’s hearts grew, but there was nothing they could do about it.
“What’s going on? Where did all the people go?” Qin Nan was full of confusion. It couldn’t be that the entire town was empty, could it?
Just as that thought crossed his mind, Qin Nan dismissed it.
There were items in the Points Mall that could increase NPC Favorability. If there were no NPCs, that would be too ridiculous.
And at that moment–
Jian Fan suddenly stopped.
